Reviews
Pillow issue: They are far too soft (thin down pillows) and small, offering 0 support. They do not offer a pillow menu nor a option for a firmer pillow. Bring your own pillows if you want q good night sleep.
Scrambled eggs issue: this seems to be a common issue across many Finnish hotels. The scrambled eggs are just a cheap mixture of eggs and starch, making it tastes awful. I don’t understand why they would cheap out on eggs, but it seems to be a thing everywhere, which is a shame.
We went hiking with own snacks, and ate it by the fire in the woods, enjoying the view and the nature. In the evening we did the wine tasting.
The room was very cozy, but not very well kept. We had to make remark about the dirty wine glasses to the concierge on the first night. (The glasses were not cleaned or changed by the way). The furniture and accessories were fairly worn, especially the lightfixtures on either side of the bed. The fireplace was also out of order. The little wooden box for keyes and phone by the hot tub also was broken. Many little things added up in the end to a feeling that it wasn't quite as lux as we had hoped for.
Also would not recommend to eat the pizza at the birstro - it was so bland.
I was in the winter, the bungalows are super heated when you enter the room and for the entire stay, + you have an additional wood stove which is very nice and practical if someone is cold.
The bed is decently comfortable for a good night's sleep. The toilet is clean and functional.
STAFF:
Too many frowns, they give me the impression that everyone needs additional training, which is obviously either not standard in this hotel or they have a bad lecturer who has no idea about hotel behavior of professional staff
BREAKFAST AND FOOD:
from the food offered in the buffet, you feel that they frugal in literally every way. It's the first time I've seen a hotel offer a salad, but you don't have any vinegar, olive oil, pepper, salt, etc., you have to ask the staff (balsamic is science fiction, of course)
They ruined the omelette with some potatoes so that I could thin it out and get a larger amount, of course I guess to save eggs. So when you eat an omelet, you have the feeling that you're eating some sort of pork pomace and not an egg-flavored scrambled egg.
The bread and pastry part of the offer is good. Coffee is desperately rare. They offer waffles, but there's no way you'll find Nutella on offer, which is standard everywhere in the world, (in this class of hotel) even the jams are cheap, tasteless, with a very strong chemical color. Nowhere with a natural taste, which would be an extra nice offer in these types of hotels if they found a supplier with a quality taste of jam. Meat and dried meat products are also of industrially cheap quality.
*
the staff never ask you if your dish is free (which is standard in gastronomic culture everywhere in the world) but take it even if they see that it is still with food inside 🤷♂️
SAUNA:
Good hygiene, generally a good impression, they lack a small pool with hot water in the offer, again they tried to be economical because all the pools are somehow connected with the same water. The hot water one would cost them more I guess as it should be a separate unit by itself.
CONCLUSION:
Profitable hotel for share owners but not full guest satisfaction😉
The hotel looks eco-friendly but the concept of sustainability is inexistant.
How it could be that there is no way of stopping air conditioning in the rooms ? The outside temperature during our stay in August is very pleasant (min 15 degrees, max 25) and when we arrived in the room the temperature was 19 degrees, with A/C working at the maximum. We struggled to stop it (no information on how to use it, it is actually a screen near the entrance FYI), we called the reception who called us back after 10 minutes (as they are generally not answering immediately) to let us know that A/C is always working, otherwise it would be too hot in our room!!! No way to stop it ☹Hey guys we are in Finland, not in Dubai !!! We had so far not used any A/C in any place in Finland, and it was very fine, you can let people decide what they want...
I won't comment the individual saunas/jacuzzi in each room, I guess some people like it... in my opinion, it would be much better to allow free access to the spa to all guests of the hotel.
With such expensive rooms, how do you dare to ask 33 euros more for each guest to enter the spa ? In most of the hotels I visited, spa services are included as services in the room package.
And last but not least on this topic, most of the articles sold in the souvenirs shop are made in China !!! Don't you have local or made in Finland products here ???
Apart of this, the room and the bed were comfortable, despite that you always hear a light noise (A/C working!) and the room is very light, as there is no curtain on window of the entrance door.
Otherwise food in the bistrot restaurant and breakfast were quite good. Personal was nice too (but couldn't help much…).
The spa! was the best experience ever for us and we have visited lots of spas! Dinner in the kota was a new experiwnce and can warmly be recommended as well.
The villa we stayed inbhas all you need to enjoy.
Warm recommendation, we will come again.
