Yet another stay! We occasionally try alternatives, but these stays away from the magnificent Meurice only convince us that we are right to believe that nothing can beat this wonderful, atmospheric hotel. As is normal in hospitality, staff change regularly and work different shift patterns. On this occasion the receptionist saw our car arriving and came outside to meet us. We had never met her before but she gave us a warm welcome. We have never had anything but excellent customer service from any member of staff. This time we noticed new bedroom carpet - and a new bed. The management is not complacent. I bought the book about the history of the Meurice from reception. It is interesting and improving my dreadful French! How many hotels have books written about them?

From the minute we walked in this hotel it wrapped us in Old fashioned French charm. The decor, furniture and sweeping staircase set the scene for a charming visit to this lovely hotel. The receptionist was friendly and informative, she spoke excellent English. She gave us directions to the Square in the heart of Calais where there was a very good choice of restaurants. When we went up to our room I couldn’t believe the size of the bed, it must have been nearly 7 feet wide. The white cotton linen was superb. It was all very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was very good, plenty of choice something for everyone. It was actually a bigger selection than I had expected. We had booked garage parking at the hotel which was very secure, there was also the facility to charge electric vehicles. Free WiFi was available.

Our third visit to this magnificent hotel in the heart of Calais in 2025 and other trips already planned.
Melanie and Thierry provide their customers with a wonderful experience with exemplary customer service. All of the staff are so welcoming and friendly.
The rooms are lovely, with new comfortable mattresses and the bedding is always clean and fresh. We stayed in a superior room and the facilities in the room are fantastic. Lovely en suite shower room, large with a walk in rain shower.
Breakfast is buffet style with hot and cold options that offer something for all. Excellently presented and prepared.
Paid underground parking is safe a d secure.
We cannot recommend this hotel enough, we regularly travel from Nottingham for just a night in Calais, and staying at this hotel is one of the main reasons we do.
Can't wait to stay again, and if you don't book here when in the Calais area, or travelling through to other regions or back to the UK, you are missing out on a first class experience.

Didn't like the hard close room doors, which slammed with an immense thud. Otherwise perfect. Lots of character and maintained to a high standard. Certainly the best Calais has to offer.

We started our motorbike tour staying here 25/07/25. the receptionist was very accommodating and welcoming, we even got secure underground parking. It is slightly dated but in a good way. Class furniture that doesn’t go out of date. We then came back to this hotel on 02/08/25 after not being welcomed at our Reims hotel so my friends booked the room and we travelled another 270kms to Calais to be closer to the channel tunnel (le shuttle) and have our final evening in Calais due to not wanting to try and find a hotel in Reims. The same receptionist lady was on the desk and again couldn’t do enough for us. She gave us a large double and a sofa bed of which was an upgrade from the room we wanted and after a total of 11.5 hours of travelling on our motorbikes this day we were very happy to be welcomed with a smile and have a much needed beer. Definitely will visit this hotel again be it with my friend or with my wife on another trip. Thanks again.

Avoid at all costs I can honestly say this is the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune to stay in. Booked for a one night stay allocated room 43. Upon arrival the smell of damp must hits you in the throat! When we entered the room the musty damp stench remained but added to this was the bonus smell of tobacco. The room was dirty and looked like it had been furnished from a skip. Plug sockets hung from the walls we didn’t use these for fear of electrocution, nor could we use the over bath shower as the bath was full of insects. The bathroom sink was also blocked. The beds were like something from a hostel on steel frames and sadly full of bed bugs which left us covered in bites and requiring medical treatment.

Stayed 4 nights at the beginning of July and had such a fantastic time. Reception and breakfast staff are lovely, friendly and welcoming. The room was perfect, with a large comfortable bed, power shower, hanging/folding space for clothes etc. The bathroom was well stocked with essentials: cotton buds, shower cap, soap/shower gel, nail file, comb. There was also tea/coffee/water plus many English TV channels - which we loved at the end of long days exploring Calais and northern France - nice to cosy up with Film4. The cleaning staff were brilliant - the room was always spotless and amenities replenished. When next visiting Calais, I would definitely stay here again. Thank you Hotel Meurice!

A little tired, and reminisent of times gone by. Extremely helpful young lad when we arrived on Saturday evening, but breakfast lady was impatient and rude about our small dog, which we paid extra to have stay, not being allowed into breakfast. I've no problem with that but the manner in which we were told was terrible given she is no doubt building a career in hospitality.
Update: 12th May. I have added an additional star, and edited my review, as the manager/owner kindly responded to my complaint.

We booked this hotel for one night, and a few days after booking we added a parking place, so we speak to the lady about our reservation. On the day of arriving we call the parking place and we were really shocked to hear they made a mistake with the booking and the booking was a day before arriving!! So when we came to the hotel they wanted us to pay again because we missed the booking. The lady from the customer service was really rude! We never had this bad service before. How you treat your customers is not OK! We will NOT recommend it at all and book another hotel. It is unfortunate because we book a lot of hotels over here. Sincerely Rens M
