Villa Montparnasse

As much as I’d like to give this hotel a good review because of the lovely reception staff and great location, the overall quality just isn’t great. When the room was cleaned absolutely nothing was replaced (including toilet paper, which was the cheapest quality which you wouldn’t even find in a hostel), and used dishes were left. Breakfast was also not great, as it took a long time for anything to be replaced. Literally all the juices and milk were empty and even though multiple people asked, they weren’t replenished until I actually got up and handed the staff member the empty bottle of orange juice. The choice is very sparse to begin with, felt more like a 2* hotel (in fact, my friend who was staying in a 2* B&B chain hotel had a higher quality breakfast…). And they lie on the menu and say that you can get cooked eggs on request (and these are also featured in the photos published by the hotel), but when I asked for them I was told it wasn’t possible (and no reason was provided). The only warm food is boiled eggs, which you have to cook yourself. Furthermore, the light in the bedroom stopped working on the third night, and the outlet next to the bed wasn’t working either. Could be a nice hotel, but clearly management is incompetent.

Just to say that I booked here in December and when I arrived they told me that they couldn’t give me a room. They took me to their sister hotel which was decent but on the outskirts of Paris. Looking at the review dates which are months old now, I think this hotel has been closed for a while but it is still taking bookings.

We stayed a total of 4 nights at Villa Montparnasse in October 2023. Overall, the stay was ok and the room was small but cute.

Unfortunately, in our last night, we were stuck in the elevator for more than an hour when we came home from our dinner. The response and communication from the management was poor. In the elevator we were informed that help will come in 30 min. However, we waited more than an hour in the small elevator. Finally, at 1:30 AM, someone came and could open the elevator door. We had to jump 1m to get on the floor.

We understand that those things can happen. But in our point of view, it could have been handled better and a better communication could have helped us to feel better. But no one approached us or talked to us from the hotel staff.

The next morning we mentioned what happened at the check out and the manager just said “i’m sorry - it usually just takes 20 minutes to release the people from the elevator when it is stuck”. Obviously, this is something that happens regularly. Indeed, the elevator looks very old and not well maintained.
