Hotel Punta Est

Hotel is the old…desperately needs updating. They advertise sea view but give you a room on first floor (with an obstructed sea view- plants/trees in the way). We paid $400+ per night…not worth it. No iron or steamer provided. Furniture and bedding are old looking. Smallest shower I’ve ever seen. Semi clean room..could clean better. For $400+ per night, I’d stay somewhere else

The hotel is nice and in a nice location - my 1 star review is ENTIRELY because the checkout is at 10am. There is no excuse for a hotel to have such an early checkout! I was shocked and disappointed when someone knocked on my door at 10:30 to tell me that checkout was at 10am and I was already late. Please change this policy, it is unacceptable. I manage an airbnb myself, and I understand why airbnbs need to have earlier checkouts (tho even with airbnbs I think 10am is too early!) - they don't have the benefit of many rooms with the same bedding and large-scale laundry onsite. For a hotel, there is no reason for this.

I would give this hotel zero stars if it were possible. Do not stay at this hotel. The owner and managers were absolutely horrible.

We had booked a stay including breakfast and parking. On arrival they told us the parking area was full but we could try the next day so we parked on the street the first night. We parked at the hotel for the next 3 nights of our stay. When we went to check out they insisted we pay for parking.

We showed them the booking confirmation that clearly said parking included but they didn’t accept it. They said that it is a mistake on the booking website and that it was not their problem. At first the manager admitted that this was a mistake but they had recently fixed it on the booking sites. We explained to them that we had booked our stay months ago and that they had accepted all the other details of the booking (the room, breakfast etc) but they just kept saying it was our problem.

We tried to explain that we had already paid for the parking because it was included in the booking but they told us that this was our problem not theirs. We also told them that when we checked in the receptionist said it was included but it was full that day but they did not accept this.

We said we were happy to pay the city tax (which is normal on check out) and our bar tab but we did not want to pay for the parking again because we had already paid for it. We tried very hard to reason with the manager and then the owner but it was no use.

They screamed and swore at us and told us we could not leave until we paid it. For two women travelling, it was quite intimidating for two men to yell and swear at us and it was completely unexpected for hotel staff to behave so aggressively. No matter what we said they just kept insisting that we have to pay the full amount. They had no concept of customer service whatsoever.

They called us thieves and said they would call the police. We told them we were happy for them to call the police because we wanted to sort it out and had to leave to catch a flight but then they didn’t call them anyway. They just kept insisting that we have to pay. We told them to call the police if they wanted to as we had done nothing wrong but obviously they were just threatening us.

They continued to threaten us and wouldn’t let us leave until we paid. They laughed at us that we were going to miss our flight if we didn’t pay and said it really is our problem not theirs.

This was all over €30 and it seemed so ridiculous to us that the hotel would not just wear the cost of their mistake that they had even acknowledged at first, but we eventually just paid it so we wouldn’t miss our flight.

We have never had such a poor experience with hotel staff and having looked at recent reviews, we are clearly not the only ones who had such a bad experience.

Sardinia is a lovely place but there are plenty of other hotels. Do not stay at this hotel, it is not worth the horrible experience of dealing with the staff.

We've spent 7 nights at this hotel (22/06 - 29/06), and unfortunately from the first moment we've been having problems. First of all, we've waited for our room for nearly 4 hours, which wasn't a big deal as there's a lovely beach close to the hotel. Eventually, we were given keys to room 129 which is located in a separate building behind the hotel with a parking view (I've paid for a room with garden view!). When I asked for a different room I was told they they're fully booked but then I was told that if I would pay extra I could upgrade to a better room in a few days time. I decided not to bother arguing, as we wouldn't spend much time in the room since we planned to travel and explore the island. The room itself was very basic with a tiny shower (I could barely fit in) and there was no fridge or a kettle in the room, later we've found out that's because they want you to pay extra for everything, but more on that later.
Unfortunately, I paid extra for the half board upgrade which includes breakfast and an evening meal. Every day the menu changes but you get to choose from two starters, two mains and two deserts all drinks are charged extra at a price similar or sometimes even higher than at the beach front bars outside the hotel. The food itself was terrible, it was badly cooked and lacked variety. Therefore we knew that we won't be eating at the hotel again, so I decided to ask for a refund for the reminder of our stay, but again I was told that it wasn't possible!
When you order drinks at the bar or decide to use their car park, you don't pay when you actually order but at the end of your stay (they just ask for your room number). When we were checking out, on the final bill there were drinks that weren't ours, but luckily these have been removed, so it is important to keep track of what you order. We've only ordered from the bar once on our first night and didn't bother ordering again due to prices and lack of choice, although the bartender was a very friendly and helpful person.
After my attempt to get our money back for half board, most staff seemed to be upset at me. They kept asking questions why we are not coming back and what's going on. At one point during our breakfast, I was approached by a guy who seemed to be a manager of the restaurant and he asked me the same question, I replied honestly and politely and he replied that there's something wrong with us, as they had over 5000 guests and nobody has ever complained! I told him that this isn't true and I I pointed him to a dozen reviews on Google from other unhappy guests like us. At this point, the conversation was over. No one had apologized or even tried to do anything to make us happy. In their eyes, the problem was with us, not them!

There were a few positive things about this place:
- The breakfasts are really good, although repetitive, and the coffees are amazing.
- The staff serving breakfast are extremely polite and very attentive.
- The cleaning lady was super nice and did a great job.
- The location of the hotel is great

I just wanted to add a message to the hotel, when you work in this industry, your hotel guests should be the main focus. It is necessary to be polite and understanding. When a customer is not happy, at least try to do something to make them feel better. Otherwise, they will not come back.

We highly recommend visiting Sardinia. It's an amazing place, but we can't recommend Hotel Punta Est in Baja Sardinia. It's not worth the hassle.
