Hotel «Excelsior Splendide»

Excellent location, Hotel was clean. Polite staff. Breakfast was fine. Lift was reliable. Hotel had character. Nice lounge area at the front. TV had Netflix and YouTube apps. HOWEVER, No proper hand towels (tea towels). No fridge. No control whatsoever for the aircon/heater. Terrible smell in the bathroom. Smallest shower cubicle I've ever seen. No area at all to put the soap or shampoo. The aircon unit was not able to be switched off. Very noisy. Impossible to sleep with that noise (not normal aircon noise). Very basic under-decorated room. We decided to leave a day early (to protect our sanity) and unfortunately lost our money for that day. We never left a hotel earlier than intended in 30 years of travelling. Consider this a 2 star hotel and you'll be OK.

Very disappointed in the hotel.
Room bland & impersonal- vast expanse of cream walls with one small mirror on the wall.
No ‘facilities’ in the room eg tea / coffee / fridge, only on chair in double room, reception / lobby had good seating area but if you wanted anything to drink you had to cross the road to the hotel’s restaurant & pay restaurant prices 4euro for tea ? .
Breakfast room had no atmosphere & frankly most of staff looked as if they would rather be somewhere else. Breakfast offering very limited.
We had a lake view room, great view but had to ask hotel night reception to request that the people in the restaurant ( closed at 11.30pm) keep the noise down - it was 12.40pm - they did quieten down when spoken to.
Sadly can not recommend hotel ( first time I’ve ever felt this way about a hotel) . It’s tired, sad & needs a lot of attention.

No water in the room , no dustbin . Paid 300 euros per room
No body wash no lotion in the bathrooom
No blanket or duvet’s
In the name of breakfast just toast butter and scrambled eggs. No omelette

Just an horrible experience. The worst ever hotel in the entire trip
The staff is so rude, no helping attitude
Strongly suggest not to buy this hotel
Just for the sake of its location

Uninterested staff & probably the worst breakfast in Italy. No fresh fruit, basically sugary cereal, toast & cold meat.

If you saw the bacon & scrambled eggs you would not eat either. Mould in bathroom. Do yourself a favour & stay elsewhere.

Heed my words, do not stay at this hotel! My wife and I left a day early after two nights of cockroaches in the bathroom, the most uncomfortable bed, terrible front desk service (the guy is a tool, female staff were fine) and appalling facilities. You don’t even have aircon in your own room; it’s managed by the front desk who set it for the entire hotel! Other highlights from our stay included a coffee machine (breakfast buffet) which produced rancid, 2 inch thick congealed foam and a lift that worked 30% of the time. But the creme de la creme was when toilet water leaked onto my feet. note that parking is impossible in Bellagio.

Such a bad experience with the bed that we left a day early.

The “double” beds were two twins pushed together, which I’ve experienced before and though it’s not my preference, I was at least expecting it. What I was not expecting was for the mattresses to be as hard as a box spring in the middle and sloped on the sides so that the few times I was able to sleep, I awoke just before I was about to tip into a canyon formed between the two beds. I was also not expecting that the bedding given would be one top sheet and one light, decorative blanket, neither of which were warm enough for an 8 C/47 F degree, rainy night in March. Though there is a thermostat in the room, which gives you the illusion of control, any attempt to change the temperature is disallowed. So, a hot shower (which was thankfully warm, with great pressure) was my only mid-night recourse.

In top of that, any sound from the hallways carries into the rooms. I don’t believe anyone was trying to be particularly noisy (and maybe I was more susceptible to the noise because I couldn’t sleep) but there were many times when groups came back from drinks or dinner around midnight and guests began to take their luggage down to the boats at 6am, that every sound traveled from hallway to bedroom.

The location is right on the waterfront, and the breakfast was adequate. Hotel is dated in many ways, but I think I would have considered it charming if the bed was usable. No amount of charm could make up for spending 390 Euros to sleep and being unable to do so. We ate the cost of a second night so that we could leave before we’d have to stay there again. If I could go back in time, I wish I would not have booked that hotel.

It's a real old hotel falsifying its lake view location which was blocked by a cafe right in front. The room is decent but bear with the vintage deco and facilities. The one and only 2 persons lift is a great experience with your languages. The breakfast spread is normal but having water is a privilege in this hotel. Look for hotels somewhere else if you can climb a few steps along the narrow cobble stone alleys.

We had an unexpected change related to family issues at home. We contacted the hotel frequently 4 days before our trip and asked for a refund or credit if the hotel could fill our room. It took the hotel 24 hours to get back to us. The hotel email showed no sympathy - they refused to help and remained staunch on its no refund policy. No human consideration, even though we were being considerate for them to rebook. It’s one of the first time with a hotel that has happened. Beware if you are not certain of your plans - hotel management does not have any empathy or human kindness.
