Hotel Palazzo Brunamonti

Well it seems to be aiming for ok and just about achieving it. Not without charm but its a bit sad. Room a bit shabby and a little grimy but ok. Mattress ok but noticeably flimsy. Some marks on walls and bashed up furniture and a bit dusty. The breakfast room was worse with very patchy skirting and dirty floor. Was a dangerous step down going in to the room - Watch out! Did spot a warning notice but it was past the door on the far side as you approach and not very visible. Obviously budgeting: No bath mat. Only one pillow. Breakfast adequate. The fruit selection of a slightly green orange, a squishy grape, a half picked at bunch of grapes and couple of apples was tragic. I wouldn’t mind that the coffee was from a machine but it was really terrible coffee. I didn’t drink it and got one down the street instead for €1.10 - i would recommend that. Someone elsewhere in the hotel had a bad cough. My room was really not sound proof and the echoing coughs set a miserable atmosphere. The coffered ceiling in the room was beautiful and some of the frescos too. I did manage to fix the bell at reception whilst waiting for service although only balanced together so not sure for how long.

Here we go: Unfriendly unhelpful staff, with a default attitude of 'No, not possible'. Dark and dingy room on top floor with a very small window near the floor (it was supposed to be an upgraded room for which we had paid extra; I dread to see what a standard room looks like). Bathroom in dire need of renovation. The shower alternated between scolding hot and freezing cold every 3 seconds. Rusty doorframe on shower stall, doors didn't slide easily. No bathroom mat. Noisy airconditioning unit prevented us from sleeping. Only one nightstand had a bedside lamp. Terrible breakfast selection, only toast bread, and no tea. We went out for breakfast to a little place across the street. There was an overflowing dirty ashtray full of butts on a common terrace which had been rained on and not emptied for a very long time I would definitely dissuade anyone from choosing this hotel
