Pepito palace

Got screamed at by the father/owner who burst into my room while I was changing. He didn't wear a mask (COVID), got right up to my face and screamed at me in italian. Would not leave my room after I repeatedly told him to do so, while I was standing there wearing just boxers with the door wide open. His issue was, that I had taken the AC key off of the keychain. The room is so large and there is only one AC, that with 35 degree weather, the room won't cool down unless the AC is running for an extended period of time, but since I'm on vacation, I want to see the city and not just sit in my hot room waiting for it to cool down! Furthermore, he (the owner/Father) accused me of taking (stealing/removing) a key for the front door, as well as having "broken" the AC key - both accusations were completely unfounded/untrue and the son later apologized. Such a behavior is harassment and inacceptable on all levels! I HIGHLY URGE PEOPLE TO SEEK ACCOMODATION ELSEWHERE! Here your personal wellbeing and safety (health, emotional) is absolutely ignored.

Aside from that, if travelling with another person, make sure you are 100% comfortable with them, as the entire room is "open"; aka the bathroom has neither a door nor a ceiling, making everything visible and audible what one does inside.

Let us start with how we loved Cefalu. Yet we cannot say the same about Pepito Palace. In making this booking, we read about great rooms with daily housekeeping and air conditioning as well as welcoming hosts and wonderful breakfasts. But what we experienced was bed sheets not being changed over five days (our sheets had holes and became dirtier after each adventure on the streets or beaches); being told clean towels were limited (we left towels on the bathroom floor to be exchanged, then returned to find the same towels hung over the shower stall); asking our host for an extra bed pillow, only to hear his complaints followed by a small chair cushion; needing to turn off the air conditioner every time one of us left the room (a key is used to turn on all electricity in the room and must be taken when one leaves); and daily loss of hot water (blasts of cold water) in the shower, requiring a reset of the electronic controller in the kitchen. We only had breakfast once, with the poor state of fruit in the kitchen being an indicator of why (far better options at nearby cafes). Also, if you are more than five feet tall, expect to be bending over in the second bedroom at the top of the stairs. To cap it all off, two days before leaving, we were told to pay the full fee (over $700 Euro) in cash; we checked the payment policy and after that the host accepted our credit card.

Visit Cefalu, a wonderful and historic place with great restaurants, beaches and sites. Just look at options for accommodation with there being other bed and breakfasts along with hotels in the same few blocks of old town.
