What wasn't expected, where all the Extras!
We booked this specific hotel/package as it had a pool, spa with indoor pool, steam room, jacuzzi etc. and was by the beach with it's own 'private area'.
However, it was not documented clearly or anywhere on either EasyJet or the hotel website the amount of 'On The Spot Costs'. However, when questioned about all the Extras with a Holiday Support Advisor, it is available on a third party Italian hotel booking system (https://pay.syshotelonline.it/).... so, why do they not display this important information?
Spa: €12.00 per person per day Adults - Children € 8.00 per child per day Entrance Timetable for Children 2-12 yrs 10a.m. -2p.m. Child must be accompanied by parent.
Sant Alphio Beach: €15.00 per Spot with 1 Parasol and 2 deck chairs
Parking (if you've rented a car): € 10.00 per day
You can see how quickly costs escalate if you are a family of 5!
An extra €103.00 per day! We were there for 10 days and this is my grievance as this marred the hotel experience. Sicily is beautiful and we had a nice family holiday, as we took control and just used the hotel as a base.
I would say this hotel is for shorter stays 2-3 days max. Go elsewhere and explore this lovely island and see what else it has to offer.
Rooms are clean and cool but the beds are ridiculously hard and uncomfortable. We asked for toppers which they provided with no problem.
There is no literature anywhere as to when breakfast or dinner was served or any details about the spa. Be aware that if you use the spa it is €12 a day.
Breakfast is a continental one. They do have soya milk but not set up for vegans. I had bread rolls with jam and some tinned fruit.
Dinner is in a lovely setting, with relaxing music. It is silver service but the food is disapponting in general. My daughter ordered different dishes each night and said it was OK. I had salad (iceburg lettuce, tomato and onion) and risotto for 7 nights. There were grilled vegetables but the eggplant and cabbage was so bitter they were inedible. The order was incorrect a few times but I was told quite adamantly that this was what I had ordered. I didn't question anything again, we went into town to O'Neils and although it did not have the ambience, the food was infinitely better.
I did have a fall as the floors are slippery and the air con in the reception air drips onto the floor. I went to my room and asked for some ice as my knee swelled and I had to miss 2 days of travel as it was so swollen and bruised I couldn't bend it sat on the bus/coach. I showed the reception staff but there was no interest shown or the offer of any assistance. I did not mention it again.
The pool bar staff, cleaners and general maintenance people were always very friendly and between my English, French and their Italian, we had a few funny conversations.
I am a yacht chef/stewardess so standards are high. I would NOT rate this hotel as 4 star. 3 star fine. The spa was mostly unattended, steam room is falling apart and had a bad smell… no atmosphere in general.
My bed was the hardest I had ever slept on, the pillows were enough to give one a headache. All in all, expensive with poor quality.
Instant coffee at breakfast which was a heart breaker, especially in Italy.
This is more your package holiday deal spot (towels on sunbeds people) , great for young couples and family’s, not if you want somewhere where you can relax and be waited on. It is a shame it’s a very tired hotel, needs some tender love n care which I am sure the pandemic has not helped with.
The Sant Alphio is family owned, with the senior owner frequently visiting the hotel, taking care of the guest's and hotel's needs. Actually I pretty much appreciate his approach, making sure that the hotel remains a comfortable place for everybody.
Rooms and their balconies vary by size and according to your booking. Their interior is mostly classical in design, as is the exterior of the hotel. This means you will find plenty of classical furniture inside and even more statues and architectural ornaments outside here. The hotel's scenery merges elegantly with Mount Etna to the south, giving the hotel a breath-taking look from the lobby and entrance over the surrounding landscape.
Hotel and room cleaning was also excellent. Apartment got excellently cleaned and desinfected on a daily base. My thank you still goes here to the lady taking care of room 411 for her excellent services.
One of the major highlights of the hotel is it's excellent restaurant. Breakfast follows international standard with bread, cheese, salami, turkey, bacon, eggs and yoghurt. Latte macchiato, Coffee Americano (Black Coffee), Cappuccino, etc. are served as wake up drinks. Dinner is traditional Italian and consists of several dishes. Starting with bread, a pre-dinner will be served, that is followed by main dish and dessert.
May be one word to vegans and vegetarian here. Some flexibility is required here, as well as the will and ability to arrange with sea food.
The Sant Alphio offers a pool area as well as a hotel beach. The latter can be accessed within a three to five minute walk, depending on one's fitness. The beach and pool area are also quite clean and offer sunbeds that respect 2020's health recommendations (as do all it's facilities). Additionally, the outside loungers are cleaned on a daily base.
The hotel also lies close to Giardini Naxos' small Beach Promenade with some restaurants, souvenir shops, fashion stores and a supermarket. The latter can be accessed within ten minutes of walk.
As a summary, we can recommend the Sant alphio as a good family hotel that offers a 100 percent guarantee for good food, kind atmosphere and friendly services. So the thing I can say is thank you for 9 awesome days everyone of us enjoyed. See you again soon :-)
But ...
No food and drinks allowed in pool area,
No entertainment whatsoever - this hotel has fantastic facility inside/outside to make great fun for all guest but so far this is missing - big time
Average guests age is over 60's - again , some great entertainment could be provide
The food was quite good.
I highly recommend you come here if you plan to come to giardini naxox.
