A special experience!
This is an INCREDIBLE hotel...from the initial communication, arranging our ground transportation, being met by Jennifer and given a history of Matera to the stunningly beautiful cave we slept in, this was a perfect place. The breakfast was beautiful and delicious. The setting of Matera is stunning. My only regret is that we only had one night there. I am already trying to plan a return trip.

I wish that I could give 10 stars to Sextantio! The property is stunning, the town is wonderful, the views are breathtaking, and the staff is incredible. If you are visiting Italy, Matera is a must. It is a completely unique ancient city with a history that shows the adaptability of human kind. Take part by staying at Sextantio.

Well where do we start!? You have to visit that’s where I’ll start…. From the moment we arrived the hospitality and service was fantastic. Our taxi pulled up at the bottom of the steps and an employee was working near by… without hesitation he carried our belongings up the stairs to check in. We were then greeted by a lovely lady who was so welcoming she took us on a little tour & told us about the history of the establishment. We were also greeted with fresh tea, our arrival time was 11am and we were able to get into our room which was greatly appreciated. I can’t put into words how incredible our stay was, usually, my husband finds it hard to relax but as soon as he stepped foot into our cave room he was at peace. The ambience, the tranquility and the smell of the place was all indescribable… you have to try for yourself! We slept so peacefully & it just got better & better… the breakfast out of this world! They catered for my husband who is gluten free without hesitation, another reason which makes this place so special. I can’t rate Sextanio highly enough, thank you!

This was an amazing experience! From start to finish the service was excellent, the rooms were amazing. Unlike those who lived in the caves in the past (as we learned on Cosimo's amazing tour), we were very comfortable and had wonderful amenities. Who knew a cave could be fun? I highly recommend the experience. The candlelit dinner, cooked by Nunzia was amazing (and I have pasta making tips to bring home with me!) she was so lovely, it was a beautiful experience and the food was out of this world. I especially appreciated communicating via Whatsapp, which made things easy and convenient to arrange. The breakfast was also amazing, excellent food, all local and fresh. If you can spring for it, STAY here and learn about Matera, a beautiful city with a fascinating history.

This was the most unique place that we have stayed so far in all of our travels. The accommodations set into ancient caves from the past had everything you needed. The feeling you get from the moment you walk into your room takes your breath away and leaves nothing to be desired. The breakfast buffet is set up in cave church and is phenomenal. We will definitely be back someday!

Everything was outstanding - property, condition, staff, food, response to questions and follow-up communication. We strongly recommend this - certainly worth every cent. The parking in town with the shuttle is expensive but there is no other easy way to do it.

What an amazing place! Fantastic that the history of the area including the building has been so beautifully preserved. Congratulations to those responsible. A must stay on your travels to Matera!

This has been my most memorable hotel stay ever! I’ve stayed in a cave hotel on Santorini, Greece and this was by far much nicer and more authentic. It had all the modern conveniences but hidden away within the rustic, stone environment. The breakfast was also the best I’ve ever experienced. Everything was magical and beyond perfect! Loved every moment of my time there and wish it’d last longer! Highest recommendations!
