Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees

Absolutely stunning palatial hotel.

I could not fault it - impeccable attentive service from all staff who went above and beyond. It was great to experience service from staff who gave the impression they loved their job and nothing was too much.

The room was beautiful. We upgraded to the superior room with a balcony and lake views.

We ordered room service for one evening meal - the food was delicious and plentiful.

The spa, sauna/steam/snow room and indoor/outdoor pool facilities were great. Super clean and staff were on hand if needed.

The Breakfast was included in our stay and well worth it. A lovely buffet of both cooked and continental breakfast food was available. They catered for gluten and dairy free dietary needs.

There’s a huge free car park onsite. The hotel is an easy walk to Stresa and there are plenty of running routes along the lake (some without paths on main roads but well used by locals).

I could not recommend this hotel enough!!

It's a true grand hotel, elegant, spacious and with excellent service. One thing we would have wished for in advance was an alert that Stresa was hosting a major political event at the day of our arrival which caused some difficulties to access the venue at first.

The architecture, the interior, the surroundings and the views are stunning. The furniture and decor is quite dated - which surely is part of its charm, but a modern touch here and there would not harm.

The rooms are also large, comfortable and well-equipped.

The spa area was surprisingly big and offered a lot, including a wide array of treatments. I would most recommend a classic massage, and less the diverse more technical appliances.

My biggest disappointment was the restaurant - which would not have been a big issue if we hadn't booked a package including breakfast and dinner. The included menue had quite a poor veggie selection, which would not have been such a thing if there had been some flexible adaptation. On the third night I still received a fish-based amuse bouch, and the alternatives offered for example to replace a meat-based main course did not feel anywhere close to the same value for money. At a five-star hotel I am expecting that such preferences are taken note of on the first night and consequently respected.

All in all it was a great stay, I would mostly recommend it for special occasions where it's worth spending the money.

Beautiful grounds, location is great, service was wonderful! The spa is GREAT! But you need to renovate your rooms . They are very old , heavy dated curtains, old and worn furniture. The air conditioning vent in my room (550) was black . At night you hear a lot of banging above the room .

Great location, great service (without being overbearing), nice SPA and outside pool.
We stayed in one of the diminutive "attic rooms", and while nothing really special or "bohemian" about them, they are still bigger than standard rooms in most other hotels while being incredible value for money !

I stayed for two nights, amazing location and view. Unfortunately, Service was not to that standard. For example I requested for an iron which was not available in the room they told me it’s not allowed for safety reason, I believe it was a very funny answer. Most of the hotels around the world are providing irons in their rooms, so I had to give my one shirt and 2 t-shirts for ironing which they charged me for it.
Rooms are very classy and very old as you living in 70’s, room key is still manual with big heavy keychain, and I was facing issues opening my room door since the lock was not operating well.
In my room breakfast was included, but the breakfast provided was below standard of five star hotels and no Halal food.
