The best thing about this hotel was the location. Located right in the middle of Thamel. You can find restaurants, shops, bars and other facilities in every direction from the hotel.
They had a basic option for breakfast (set menu) which was ok.
Staffs at the reception and the manager were quite helpful.
Rooms were ok. not very spacious but enough for what you'll need.

I have been staying at hotel excelsior for 13 years. As a frequent traveller I can say this hotel offers one of the best stays for the most affordable price. The Samaya Rooftop Garden and restaurant is a peaceful and refreshing space from the busy streets. It’s Thamel’s best kept secret. The kitchen is clean and the food is also tasty, FYI, best momos in town. From the many hotels I’ve stayed in in South Asia, Hotel Excelsior and their staff have maintained the rooms and common spaces very well. Through my numerous stays, I’ve gotten to know the owners, always friendly and helpful. As always, I’ll be returning to hotel excelsior on my next trip to Kathmandu.

The rooms look and feel very nice, the rooftop restaurant is high quality and the ambiance is really cozy. The staff is very helpfull and polite, and so are the owners.

Excelsior is a basic hotel with very basic amenities. But it is located in a very good spot in Thamel. It’s almost at the center point of Thamel from where you can go to top restaurants, bar, club in either direction.
The breakfast is absolutely very very basic. They offer some set menu like continental, english, farmers breakfast etc.
It's a great value for money if you are not expecting much from your stay.

Surely one of the best places to stay in Kathmandu.
This place is great. We stayed for several weeks- longer than we intended, because it was so good. The rooms are really well appointed, with quality finishes, fixtures, fittings and materials.
On top of this, their service is excellent. They are really good communicators in English, Hindi etc. and really know what Nepal has to offer. My wife has a restricted diet, but nothing was a problem for their excellent kitchen/ restaurant.
Also the location is great - just a short walk from the Palace in the heart of Kathmandu and surrounded by heaps of interesting artisanal shops and places to eat and drink.
Full marks from a couple of travelling kiwis.

Liked · Excellent location. Our room was very clean, modern with a spacious bathroom and shower. The extremely polite housekeeping staff did an excellent job....our toiletries, coffee, tea, sugar and 2 bottles of free water were replaced daily. Very good value for money. The highlight was our delicious breakfast in the the rooftop bar which had amazing views of the mountains. The host couple were extremely helpful, engaged us in many long conversations about their Nepalese/Tibetan culture and helped us in organizing our day trips.
Our total experience was amazing, wouldn't stay anywhere else.

This is a great place to stay and recoup after a long trek or a long flight. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with excellent hot water and pressure (I've traveled in Nepal and India a lot, this is rare). The hotel is conveniently located in central Thamel, everything you need is a short walk away. The people at the front desk are knowledgeable and can help with whatever you need. I would definitely stay here again!

Great place to stay. Friendly, helpful staff. Great food. Love the location - funky street close to restaurants and shops. Very near the Pumpernickle Bakery - a favorite with Westerners and locals.
