Great hotel with the best location in our opinion. Secluded from the hectic beach and bars but still close. The beach outside is nice and less people than the main beach. Staff is fantastic, always easy to find a sundbed, great view from the hotel, nice sunsets and the massage at the SPA is recommended.
Some hooks and hangers in the room would be appreciated.

Came for the day to use the lounge beds and pool. Access if you’re not staying at the hotel is $20/person. The location is great, but the place is rather worn and could use some maintenance.
Unfortunately rating only 2 overall since the restaurant had almost none of the menu items. Most soda options were also out. The chicken wrap we ordered was mediocre and the chips barely fried.
The place doesn’t serve alcohol (wasn’t an issue for us).

4. Beddings: 6/10: The beds are squezed/very small, pillows are stiff/hard, some beddings are old especially mattresses and small bed sheets/covers.❌

The location is very nice, right at the beach. However, nothing is quite right.. For example, the ‘a la carte’ restaurant is actually a set menu with very little choice, the beds are very wide but only 180 cm long (so even normal sized people will have trouble sleeping), the AC did not work (they fixed it late evening), most wait staff does not speak English, the bathroom has an impossible layout and makes it very dangerous to get in/out of the big bath you need to shower in. Also, they can do better cleaning, especially in the bathroom.
The cherry on top was the breakfast buffet, which was not even set up yet 15 min after starting time, hot dishes were cold and cold dishes (such as fruit) were warm. A big disappointment.
All in all, I would have expected much more of a property in this price range.

We visited Zanzibar and stayed in the Smiles Beach Hotel in August 2023.
The crew is great! very service oriented and helped us with everything we needed! Always smile and ready to help.
The rooms are clean, well organized, with A/C and small refrigerator.
The location is very good, on the Northern part of Zanzibar which is the best place to visit while you are in Zanzibar.
Breakfast and Dinner were every good.
Overall - I really recommend the hotel.

My wife and I visited the restaurant of this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a good curry dish. Unlike many other places along the beach, the music wasn't too loud. But most of all, we'll forever remember this place for the excellent service of Jacqueline, a wonderful waitress. We stayed at the nearby Hilton, but none of the Hilton staff came close to her level of genuine customer care and kindness. Thank you 'Smiles' and thank you Jacqueline!

Stayed for two nights in August 2022. It was good - there are some really nice things about the place, and other things that need some work. It has one of the better beach fronts, for sure. I think that is the biggest plus about it. The staff are also very nice.
The rooms have a mildew smell though, and the mosquito nets have a lot of holes in them (or at least the one in our room did), so many that they kind of defeated the purpose of the net. The breakfast was pretty sub-par, and the dinner was terrible. I had a chicken curry dish, and I got three pieces of chicken that tasted like rubber, and there was also a twig mixed in with it. 75% of the plate was just white rice. I couldn't finish it, so we went next door to the fisherman's grill, which has amazing food. We ate at Mama Mia the next night, also delicious.
I would stay here again, given how awesome the beach front is and I think it's on the cheaper end, but just be sure to go elsewhere for your food, and maybe bring your own mosquito net.

This is not a 4* hotel at all.
The only good thing was the view with the swimming pool, the rest was very poor:
- the “superior” room does not exist. they are all the same.
- impossible to choose for twin room or double room and then they give you twin bedroom.
- the breakfast was very very poor in variety and quality
- the beds are not comfortable
- the a/c is dripping
- the hot water deposit is enough for 1 person and then you need to wait for 30 minutes to have another shower.
- no alcohol available in the bar
- swimming pool water dirty (very cloudy)
The receptionist at least was kind trying to help.
The worst quality/price we have had in Zanzibar. It doesn’t worth the money at all.

Excellent location on the beach. Fantastic, friendly service. Great warm water pool, with swim up bar.
Fresh fish and food at the restaurant.
