Reviews
First off, the service here is excellent - everyone is very professional and the Valet team is excellent, and very helpful
The location is good, and fairly convenient, but you really do need the Valet - there is no parking nearby. For those walking, the Innovation Quarter is under construction, so the entire block behind the hotel is under construction, and there is no street parking. The construction isn't loud or anything - just inconvenient and in the way.
The room itself was alright - I love the historic feeling of the building, but becuase it is historic, it's quite creaky, and you can hear a lot of the other patrons.
My particular shower wasn't the best, but it was fine. The beds are very comfortable
Overall a good stay in a good part of Downtown, with good staff
My biggest complaint is that this hotel is incredibly noisy. The walls are paper thin. We were put next to the ice maker (fine, no biggie until someone gets ice in the middle of the night) and the elevator (fine except the comings and goings every hour during the night). But the worst was a couple down the hall screamed at each other for HOURS. Well after midnight, I gave up and called the front desk. The guest services gentleman was very kind, but he had no security to assist him with an escalating situation. The price+noise+parking has left me uninterested in revisiting this location despite the helpful and kind personnel.
A fine meal can be had at the restaurant downstairs if you oder wisely. Being a hotel restaurant, the menu ponders to the average traveler, however, there are a few interesting items. I prefer the spacious bar area versus table seating, as the recessed overhead lighting near the tables are insensitivity too bright, and of a higher color temperature.
Recommended!
Now the negatives. We were informed at check in the entire restaurant was unavailable due to a private function, no big deal but it would have been handy. We booked a room that “included breakfast”. In reality that equated to a $20 coupon towards breakfast for two people. Total misrepresentation. Let’s talk about that breakfast at Sir Winston’s. I ordered “French toast with strawberry compote, whipped maple cream and maple syrup”. I received a large plate of French toast but asked the server where the compote & maple cream were. She pointed out a drizzle of pink on the plate. It could best be described as watered down strawberry jam. Unless you tasted it by itself there was no strawberry flavor on the entree. No explanation about the missing maple cream. I only ate one half slice. When she came back to ask if we were all set for the check (never came by to refill drinks) she asked if I didn’t like my breakfast. She apologized but the entree was not removed from our bill. Housekeeping as far as I could tell just threw the bed blanket up to the pillows, emptied the trash, refilled coffee pods and coffee cups and collected the tip. Dirty towels not picked up, no clean towels and a sloppy bed. Not what I’d expect that this hotel. Be aware valet parking takes forever. There is only one valet and the lot must be some distance away. On the morning of our checkout it took 25 minutes to get our car. Not a great start to an 11 hour road trip. Also, no bell services. And to top it off I noticed on the emailed receipt we were charged for three nights of valet parking for a two night stay!
As for me I’ll pay the few extra dollars and stay at the Cardinal where everything is top notch and they really take care of you.
