The Welcome Stranger Hotel
Hobart, 58 Harrington Street 🧭 Map
Good place considering the pricing and location but room service was not too good. When we checked into the room, there was leftover juice in the fridge and there was no milk as well. Otherwise, it was good place with gaming and bar attached.
A hotel that does what it says - decent, clean rooms at a budget price. The pub downstairs has a particular character that may not suit everyone but as a place to stay it's central, clean, functional and budget priced.
Budget Friendly. Fantastic accommodation. Clean and tidy room. All the usual amenities in the room. And the bathroom is so much bigger than any other I have ever experienced. It's actually the size of a normal bathroom. Staff were friendly. The attached Hotel is welcoming with food, drink, and gaming facilities. The Salamanca markets are a short stroll as is the botanical gardens, the Marina, museum...
Nice, clean and comfortable in a great location. Compact rooms are extremely compact.
The food is amazing while the portions are very generous. The staff are polite yet friendly. The entire establishment is spotlessly clean, including the designated smoking areas. Only a short walk from everything and there are bus stops on the same street.
Great little pub, friendly staff, plenty of 8ball and arcade games

My family and I absolutely loved our stay at Macquarie Manor. Such a beautiful hotel in a gorgeous historical building. The owner and staff were all amazingly hospitable, friendly, kind and helpful. The hotel is easy walking distance to many great spots in Hobart. My husband, 2 children and I stayed in room with 2 singles and 1 queen or king bed (I don’t quite remember). It was a great room for the...
Can recommend staying at Macquarie Manor. We arrived early and dropped our bags off which were taken up to our rooms for us when we returned. Very spacious room, friendly hotel cat and lovely staff. Croissants and coffees in the morning were also a big hit. Would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Hobart
We went to Hobart on the 1st week of September. Perfect spot for us. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. We came in a bit early for our check in. We just want to leave our luggages so we can have a look at the city first. Chris said the room was early and hence we can put our bags and check in our rooms. Even gave us a free parking. Very accommodating, great service. The place has a very friendly...
An all round great stay. Clean, comfortable and great sized room in a character property. Chris was very friendly and helpful throughout with great communication. The free continental breakfast was an added bonus, especially as it included freshly barrista'd coffee. Well located to explore Hobart in foot and great eating options just minutes away. Nice to be welcome by Raggie the cat on my return each...
Couldn't recommend Macquarie Manor highly enough! My husband and I stayed for our honeymoon in April this year. Chris and Matt are so welcoming, friendly and they went out of their way to accommodate us. The hotel itself is really beautiful, and the rooms are big, clean and comfortable. The dining room was probably my favourite room to hang out, and I really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and...
Really beautiful colonial heritage building with amazing foyer and breakfast/ reception area. However the room although massive was rather dated and had no windows and there was a constant exhaust fan running. Check-in is very limited and only available between 2 and 5pm. Breakfast was really good though however.

Nice clean rooms, very simple. Convenient location. Next to a pub/restaurant. It looks like a toilet block from the outside, but nice inside. Only downside was the small milks in the fridge were 6 months past their best before date and curdled.
Staff very helpful as we moved table due to aircon above. Meals huge! Plenty of space. Children friendly! Soup came cold but reheated ASAP.

Good value for money and client focussed. Well equipped rooms.
Peaceful, relaxing & calming outstanding view, Very homely feel, beautiful home We will definitely returning to stay again?
All good, could turn the shower water pressure down a bit , a bar of soap and update the power point below the TV to include a usb outlet . All minor points
Clean, quiet, very easy check-in and out process. Good location, close to hotels and restaurants. Ample parking. Very well equipped kitchenette. Good value for money! We didn't use the gym, sauna or guest laundry but good to know they are there. I'd be more than happy ro stay here again.
Clean, convenient, quiet, private
The reception was closed after hours check in was slow but worth it when I arrived to my room very spacious and comfortable

Location was great and parking was very convenient and the room was comfortable whilst not being great
Nice clean rooms, very spacious. Fantastic location very close to the waterfront.
Disappointing to say the least, if you stay here, watch the pricing it could range from $300 a night to $180 a night for the same room depending whom you book through so investigate beforehand. The rooms felt cheap and nasty, a shower over a bathtub that felt unloved( old looking tap wear), the tap dripped all the time( my pet hate), there was a piece of rolled up toilet paper on the roof, the tiniest...
Great location and well equipped rooms, though the toilet paper is really rough.
My favourite place to stay! Always great service, excellent apartments and everything you need. So close to all the bars, restaurants, and the city. Highly recommend!
Hit and miss. The rooms are good for size. But its becoming slightly behind what others are offering in the area. That said the rooms are clean. Perfect location and onsite parking. Easy 2 min walk to Salamanca. Some rooms would have a nice view over the harbour. You need to check in at another hotel across the road.

clean excellent meals onsite and staff more then happy to help you out
I've mostly been in here for a catchup and a drink or two in the cafe area but this time I decided to have a meal here. Plenty of parking out the front but if it's particularly busy you can easily find parking a few steps away at the shopping centre. There's a lot on offer with a cafe, sports bar and dining area. I decided on the Aussie Parmigiana with a cool beer to go with it. It was just over...
Good food, good service and a good wine list. You can choose from 3 eating areas. We went on the coldest December day in 50 years (felt like mid-winter to us) and the group outside kept coming in and out of the doors! However, they eventually came inside out of the cold 😂
I was impressed with this restaurant. The venue was bigger than expected and had a number of dining options. The Dining Room was really well appointed, modern and classy. The menu was expansive with lots of options, including a great range of parmi's and pizza's. Our whole party enjoyed their food - I had the risotto, which was yum. I got a Bombe Alaska, which was tasty but quite small with a disappointingly...

Location: near to Hobart Airport, located at a residential area. Facility: fully equipped with kitchenwares, microwave, kettle, ,stove, refrigerator, air conditioner, free milk and some coffee tea provided. Overall is good, however the beds condition was all collapsed and soft..
Spacious room, a balcony with a nice view. Heating was enough👍🏻
This is a very good place for family trip with good view and amenities.
We loved our four nights at Bay View Villas Hobart. Our one bedroom apartment was clean and had great views of the harbour. We enjoyed afternoon drinks on the balcony watching the cruise ships and yachts. Our bed was very comfortable and the best bed during our Tasmania holiday. The staff were very friendly and you felt welcome. A short drive to Hobart or you can catch a taxi. Definitely recommend...
Bay View Villas in Hobart offers a delightful retreat for families and groups seeking both convenience and comfort. During our four-night stay with 12 friends and family members, the property proved to be an excellent choice. The location is particularly advantageous, being close to Hobart’s city center while still providing a tranquil environment. This balance between accessibility and serenity enhances...
Had a wonderful 2 night stay in the one room apartment! Very beautiful view from the balcony facing the city and the bridge. The room is also properly equipped with kitchen equipment for cooking. If you’re lucky enjoy, you may also get to see wallaby on the street or compound in the dusk or dawn hours. The laundry facilities on the ground floor is useful for tourists especially during the winter...

I was very happy with my one night stay at Quest Savoy (main historic building). It is ideal for a first timer to Hobart due to its proximity to the main shopping mall (which also has a Woolworths off it). There were ample cooking facilities but there are so many eateries around most people won't want to use them. There is no restaurant on site, but if you are wanting to treat yourself to a hotel breakfast...
I recently stayed at the Quest Savoy for a total of four nights in Room 1—three nights prior to my tour with Under Down Under Tours and one night following the tour. The apartment was spacious, exceptionally clean, and well-equipped with full kitchen facilities. The bed was very comfortable, and the hot showers had great pressure. The property is excellent value for money and ideally located—just...
We stayed in an apartment for 6 nights whilst my husband worked nearby and I worked from the room. It was very clean and spacious for our requirements. The kitchen was excellent and had everything I needed to cook simple evening meals. Staff are warm, friendly and helpful. The Savoy Day downstairs was a bonus and well worth the visit. Location-wise it was excellent and it was easy to walk down to the...
We stayed for 4 nights - What a great location so close to everything - Constitution Dock restaurants only 5 minutes' walk Supermarket one block away and the bus to travel around Hobart at the door. Was so easy to return to the airport from here as well. The service from the team was excellent gave us great suggestions for restaurants each we tried all of them and they were spot on for tasting Tasmania...
Stayed one night in the Annex building in a one bedroom suite. Please note that there are no elevators, so guests would need to carry luggage up the stairs. Location is central.
I stayed in a one-bedroom room on the B floor of the annex for three days. The three female staff at the reception were all very kind. The sofa bed was big and the room was cleaned well. However, the bathroom door was not well fitted. If there is no cleaning on Sundays, I think it would be good if all towels other than bath towels were left out for two days by Saturday. The location is great. Thank...

Wonderful accommodation. A beautifully maintained heritage home in a fantastic location. Comfortable, clean and tidy rooms and bathrooms. Simple but satisfying breakfast. Cosy common room with beautiful board games and comfortable lounges. Perfect location for the CBD and the Salamanca market.
Stayed before and really enjoyed it, excellent breakfast. Unfortunately, this time the house is for sale and no-one on site to prepare breakfast so we had to make our own continental. Room & facilities great.
Lovely property. Very comfy too. Handy to lots of cafes as well as the city. Nice breakfast.
Excellent accomodation. Close to Hobart city and Salamanca Square. Beautiful heritage building, from around 1870. Huge rooms. On site parking. Buffet breakfast every day, included in the price.
Very communicative and friendly with good service and a great atmosphere. Room 505 looked out onto the front garden but was also overlooking the main road so it was a little noisy in the night. Otherwise it was a great stay.
Only a short walk to Salamanca free parking and wifi

Huge suite. Expected more toiletries than just shampoo, conditioner and soap. Only one bin in bathroom so I moved it out to lounge - for such a large room two bins would work better. These are just minor of course - bed was comfortable, shower great and kitchenette handy. So disappointed with the pool - sad, old, sparse furniture and pool had bird poo and bees in it so putting on the filter more often...
The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout my stay. The room was impeccably clean, well-designed
What an amazing place to stay. The Rydges' team were wonderful - very helpful and obliging. Food at the restaurant was fantastic. Our Manor King Room was very spacious and spotless. Heaps of on-site parking. Great location only a 20 min walk to the Hobart CBD.
Were on second floor of main hotel and there were no lifts so had to carry everything up the stairs. Room was very spacious but the shower drain was slow and the main shower would overflow due to this. Also, when the room was refreshed the tea bags were not replaced. Great position and quiet but just a few oddities.
Loved the history of the building! Situated in a convenient but quiet location, price is very decent for the quality, and staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The bed was so comfy it made it very difficult to get out haha - would definitely love to stay here again when in Tassie.
Wonderful staff! Comfortable and spacious room, lovely balance of heritage and modern features.

Great location for food and beach. Covers all the accommodation basics well.
Nice little super old style B&B in the middle of Sandy Bay. Super close to a heap of cafe’s and near where the big red tourist bus stops off. 20 mins walk to the Salamanca markets as well.
Great location and friendly host. Comfortable bed.
I stayed here in May and returned again to find the same lovely hospitality and room , the quiet , ambiance of the room is very calming , with a great spa bath , the location is a bonus with restaurants and cafes surrounding, It’s convenient and very relaxing place to stay , thankyou for looking after us so well.
Lisa and i stayed here for a week. It was a fantastic base to see all the areas of Hobart and surrounds, and had great coffee and eating places within walking distance. The house was in keeping with the archecture of the area and the rooms clean and comfortable and we were made very welcome.i would highly recommend it for a stay in Hobart.

From Anne Ferguson. I made a mistake when I booked this accommodation, expecting it to be self - catering. It isn't. It would be an ideal place for a weekend in Hobart. Ideal hideaway. Lovely views. Great coffee and food. The area is near to the markets too.. it is a good strolling area after having a beautiful breakfast.
I was nervous about staying here but chose to because the rooms looked so nice and they were. I could live in that place. The sandstone walls and see through shower. The huge bed was so comfortable. Great view. Awesome food in the same area. Delicious breakfast at a great discount the next morning. Yes, it's a little noisy. But, they've done the best they can to stop it.
