A great place to stay and explore
Lovely hotel high up on the mountain side with an amazing view of the valley and Luxembourg on the other side of the river. The breakfast buffet was hardy and delicious, and the dinner one of the best I had in Europe! The natural setting was breathtaking. The infinity pool on the bottom floor has a great view of the valley, as well. The town had some fun places to explore, and it is just a short drive to Echternach on the Luxembourg side, which has a courthouse originally built by Charlemagne.
If you visit the Waldhotel Sonnenberg, be sure to try their local honey. It is some of the best I’ve ever had! Available in the lobby.

We had a great stay with our family. Our kids loved the pool. The sauna was very hot. The breakfast included fresh orange juice and a great variety of breakfast food. Even vegan alternatives for milk were available. The view is nothing but spectacular and so are the many hiking opportunities right from the hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful whenever we had questions. Thank you!

A wonderful stay at the Waldhotel Sonnenberg, it was a first for us as this location and we couldn't have dreamt of a better stay. Simple, cosy, and very efficient on all aspects. We really appreciated the breakfast which was really nice with a lot of options; and always refilled ! 10/10 would come again if a future trip is planned around.

The location was great, but the staf lacks hospitality. Unfriendley, slow and not fit for this job. It voelde be a great Place to stay if they can make you feel welcome. That was not the case.

We stayd for 2 days in this hotel. We enjoyed the breakfast and also the opportunity to have a nice walk of 7,5 kilometers. Rooms are clean.

The highlight certainly is the hotel's location, overlooking the Sauer valley and the village of Bollendorf. However, the large parking lot ist just in front of the hotel, so that reduces the quality of the sight. Else, the hotel is in need of a complete renovation, everything looks and feels like 80s and 90s. Our room (#6) was "decorated" with a 2015 phonebook (no phone in the room though) and that tells something about the sense of the owner to create a nice atmosphere. We rarely saw the owner except during check-out and even then, the usual question if everything was OK was missed - perhaps the knew our answer. There is an indoor pool and one small sauna originating also probably from the 80s. The restaurant serves rather old fashioned dishes at much too high prices. Certainly nothing for vegetarians or even vegetable lovers. Staff are young, friendly, but inexperienced and mostly francophone with limited knowledge of German. Overall, we cannot recommend Waldhotel Sonnenberg.

Waldhotel has a great view from the room and restaurants. Nice pool with an outdoor deck you can enjoy the sun and the great view. The restaurant has a lot to choose from, veggie, special 3-course menu and wild menu. Also delicous home made cakes. Nice, comfortable beds. Dog friendly hotel, you can walk straight into the woods for hours.

First if all the hotel is in a perfect location. A few minutes driving up a hill from Bollendorf. The building is from the 1970's and oozes that vintage era. Everything is spotlessly clean and functioning. The team is friendly but a bit unexperienced. The outside garden terrace has the most beautiful view. Service there however is (too) slow. The rooms are small but well equipped and clean. The beds a bit small and not so comfortable. The flatscreen tv offers the usual free to air channels you find in German(y). That is the reason I always bring a cable to connect the MacBook and stream. There is a restaurant connected to the hotel which offers a good range of dining options. Also vegan and vegetarian. The wines are excellent (my tip: Grauburgunder Sankt Michel). As far as the restaurant concerns the prices are too high. Although the food was good, for those prices I would have expected more. The biggest challenge will be to give the hotel a good overhaul. What now looks charming vintage will soon start to look worn down. The waldhotel is an excellent for hiking in the region. Although most start a few miles away. The "home game" however is the "Grüne Hölle", which starts right behind the hotel. One of the most exciting hikes I have made.
