Hotel Barbarossa in Konstanz

We wholly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful historic hotel in Konstanz. It's perfectly located in the middle of the old town, so everything from shopping to the lake and many great restaurants are accessible by foot.

The superior suite we chose was beautiful, large and with many nice details like the various wallpapers. The bed was very comfy.

Getting started with the day was a breeze after having enjoyed the rich breakfast buffet.

The staff was very friendly and explained everything clearly. Can recommend 100%!

I visited the Hotel Barbarossa early October, and I keep a wonderful memory of the place.

The hotel is filled with history, old of several centuries for the walls and the pilars of wood, more recent (early XXth century) for the rest. The hotel counts on that, and shows us the story of the place, through the pictures on the walls, the old cupboards, or the stained glass in the restaurant. People working here are more than happy to share the story of the city and the hotel too and the whole staff is really nice.

In short, it was very cool. A nice place, very different feeling than other places I have been to recently.

I have stayed here over 3 times in the past, and 2 times in a year and a half. Great location - 8 min walk from train station. In heart of old town Konstanz. Shops, restaurants, except I am totally satisfied with hotel breakfasts and dinners. Great staff, attention to detail, clean rooms and restaurant, and great food at current prices. I believe 4 generations of owners to me sys a lot.

We stayed in room 202 which was a family room. It consisted of the two singles pushed together for us (which we found was the norm across our travels in Germany) and the kids had a bunk bed in the adjacent room (which could have been separated by a curtain but we didn't bother). The room was a really good size and nicely furnished/decorated. The sofa is slightly grubby but that didn't bother me as overall the standard of cleanliness in the room and bathroom was excellent. It was a hot summer day and I was worried I'd be disturbed by having the windows open (as the room overlooked the pretty square the hotel is based in) but there was a fan supplied and so I aired the room during the day and shut the windows at night, popped my earplugs in and had the fan on low. I'm a light sleeper but had a very good night's sleep. Breakfast the next morning was fine. We did have a meal in the restaurant inside the hotel (on the first floor I think it was, you can also eat out in the square but I think it's a different menu). It was a 3-course set meal and very enjoyable. My partner is vegetarian but there were vegetarian choices. It was quiet the night we were there so only 3 or 4 other tables occupied. The waitress was pleasant and the wine by the glass surprisingly ok. Konstanz itself is beautiful and one of my favourite places out of 8 that we visited on our travels.

This is a lovely hotel with lots of character and history. My bedroom made me smile. Lovely cheerful colours and the room felt light and airy. The hotel has an outdoor patio restaurant and is situated right in the centre of a wonderful area of town with lots of shops, restaurants and cobbled stone streets. Perfect to do tourist stuff. Great location and very central. Public parking is close, if you have a car. If you are traveling by train, it is about a 15 minute hike. Food was delightful and the hotel feels cozy. Friendly staff. Great value and highly recommended.

Stayed at the Hotel Barbarossa for two nights and loved the hotel. They strike a fantastic balance of an old rustic building with up-to-date amenities. They nicely renovated the rooms and offer comfy beds. Breakfast was absolutely stunning with a lot of options and great service. Speaking of service: Staff members are fantastic, very friendly and paying attention to detail. I particularly liked that the owners proudly display the accomplishments of their staff on the wall in the restaurant. If I return to Konstanz, I will stay in this hotel.

This place is a gem. It is located in a historic building in the heart of a fabulous town. We thoroughly enjoyed the architectural details and art work in the lobby, hallways, shared sitting room, and in our private room. Our room exceeded exceptions - with a couch and chairs along with a large, comfortable bed. The staff was helpful from check-in to check-out. We highly recommend.

Excellent Hotel and Restaurant in every way. The location is perfect for a stay in Konstanz. Our room was large, clean and with all facilities including chairs and a table. The breakfast and meals in the restaurant were very good and served by attentive, well trained staff. Our stay couldn’t be faulted.

Very nice hotel with a a great price/value ratio. Food is excellent and the rooms are very clean. The entire city of Konstanz is basically in walking distance from the hotel. You can reach almost all sightseeing spots in a few minutes by foot. Staff is very friendly. The only thing I really didn’t like is that the room keys are very chunky and can be a pain to carry around all day. The reception is manned until 11pm though so you can leave them there unless you want to be out all night.
