The only true positive...it is very well located in the city center. That being said, the city is not large so everything is walkable. The rest was not great. We stayed for 2 nights and booked the suite. It was large with high ceilings but that made it very hot in the room. We asked for fans twice but never got them. The blackout curtains didn't blackout anything so the heat streamed in all day and you were awake with the sunrise. The bathroom was separate from the toilet area which I do not like in hotels. The tub was also strange. It was slightly elevated above the floor but you couldn't tell that until you went to step out and almost fell. The hotel restaurant does not have menus in English. The waitress offered us no help so we got up and went to dinner somewhere else. Overall, it was fine but we would stay somewhere else if we go back to Nimes..

We loved our huge room (and bathroom!) and the location was convenient to everything. The breakfast was top notch! We didn’t eat dinner at either restaurant but they both looked amazing.
A couple of notes that kept it from being perfect:
1) 66 stairs to the third floor. Not an issue for us but could be for some people
2) one day the cleaning folks left our room unlocked after they cleaned
3) we had great towels at first but when they were replaced the quality of the new towels was sub-par
4) significant noise levels in the alley below overnight.

A beautifully peaceful oasis in a great central location. We had a lovely stay at Margaret Chouleur and the front of house staff who we met were very helpful and friendly. We had been upgraded to stay in the duplex apartment which was a nice touch, but we found it to have a few things wrong which were a shame, but didn't ruin our experience. For example the air con units were broken in the lounge, the kitchen was poorly equipped and cupboards could do with updating, the kitchen tap leaked in an interesting way. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious, clean and well decorated and bed very comfy. However, the upper floor is accessed through a VERY steep and potentially dangerous staircase, and we struggled with the suitcases and had to be very careful whenever we used the stairs. Not suitable for older guests or those with younger children. When we returned to the hotel after we had been out about 10pm and wanted a drink from the bar. Whilst the lovely receptionist was happy to help she didnt know her way around a bar, and wasnt able to make cocktails, consequently we felt we were a bit of a nuisance. That said, we had a lovely stay, a great breakfast and would definitely stay there again.

I’m so pleased I decided to have a 3 night stop here. The hotel is wonderful and the staff even better. All of the ladies just seemed to appear when I was wondering about something. It was very pleasant just sitting quietly in the courtyard or garden areas with a coffee of a drink. The staff would appear and ask what I’d like which was terrific. My room was glorious and so quiet. I also ate at Gigi which was great however the breakfast was a true delight. I’ve been traveling for 2 months and it’s the best scrambled eggs with crispy bacon ever !! Such a restful spot in Nîmes. Step out the door and you have everything to see and do. Certainly go and see the Pont du Gard & obviously all that Nimes has, the Arena, gardens etc. Thanks to all at the Margaret Hotel for looking after me during my stay. I’d loved to return one day !!

Hotel is in the Historic Center of Nîmes within 5 min. walk to the 2000 year old Roman Amphitheater and Roman Home as well as 10 minutes from the beautiful Jardin.
We were upgraded to the Georges Suite with a living room, kitchen, and bedroom with sitting area which were beautifully appointed with crystal chandeliers and furniture. Also had a private courtyard overlooking the pool and garden. Can't recommend more highly.

An amazing building right in the old town, spacious rooms in a wonderful setting. Would have been interesting to read more about the history of the building but we didn't find anything. We couldn't check in until 3, so the staff very kindly took our bags up to room. The decor in the rooms was quite gloomy, it needed better lighting, especially in wardrobe where it was impossible to see! Neither us nor the staff could get the overcomplicated tap to work on the bath, so they swapped us to another room, which was even bigger with a lovely sitting room. Despite it having the biggest bathroom I have ever seen, it only had a bath, no shower. Bizarre. Breakfast was good but little things like no milk, water or butter put out (obvs they came when we asked for them).
None of these are massive things, but fixable niggles. I really hope they can improve as this could be a wonderful boutique hotel.

Such a lovely, classy hotel! Our family room was huge and comfortable, the bathroom luxurious, with such nice Diptyque bath products. The staff was welcoming and friendly, especially the woman at breakfast the next morning. The breakfast was excellent, as well as dinner at restaurant Gigi. The staff at Gigi were also especially nice and helpful. Unfortunately Rouge was closed the day we were there, otherwise we would have liked to try it. Perhaps for our next stay in Nîmes (which would also definitely be at this hotel!).
