Lovely building and great location. Staff responded well when we had minor issues that needed to be addressed. Stunning breakfast room and also a lovely breakfast though the room was a bit too busy at times We would have liked access to a cosy salon or comfortable place to sit as our room, despite having a wonderful view, was very small.

The bed in room 302 should be replaced. Someone from management should try lying in it and see just how bad it is. I had a terrible night sleep. The check in process was smooth and the restaurant staff are good but I thought the staff who worked the morning breakfast were commendable.

A wonderful place, situated within the walls of the old city ( Intra Mouros). A room with a view of the sea ( upgraded free of charge). Would definitely come again!

This is a true grand dame of a hotel who has been there for generations. It has the feel of another era. Our room was large with tall ceilings. Our carpet, as others have mentioned, was worn and dated, but the room was clean and we appreciated the space. We overlooked the front entrance to the hotel and the building where the author Chateaubriand was born. Sorry we didn’t get to see the water. It was interesting to see black and white photographs of the area during the war as compared to today. It’s located on a bustling square. We found parking behind the hotel without issue although it would have been helpful if that information was provided in advance. Wonderful bakery just a few doors away and we had a lovely meal of Coquille San Jacques at the hotel our first evening there.

It is a grand hotel that is a bit shabby at present. We had a room overlooking the ocean. The view was spectacular but the room tiny. The hotel's public rooms are updated and refurbished, in a grand and interesting style, but the guest rooms and hallways are very outdated, old, shabby, not so clean carpet, dingy walls, and outdated bathrooms. The staff is very kind and helpful, we were able to get into our room early. The hotel does not have a shuttle, but it is easy to get from the train station on the # 2 bus, which stops in front of the train station. You get off in front of the tourist bureau (the hotel is a short walk away, through the walled gate and to the right (big white building with blue trim.) The cobblestones make dragging. a suitcase difficult, be ready and be patient. The location of the hotel is wonderful, close to everything, even the beach. The restaurant, Le Petit Crepier was spectacular, ambiance, food, service etc. Punjab had delicious Indian food (lamb vindaloo was great.)

We had a great time, we’ve stayed before but this time it was even better. Very friendly staff and had a great dinner and on the last morning had the breakfast which was very good.

Disappointing Stay
I had a disappointing experience during my stay. I had arranged and paid for an early check-in to move it forward from 15:00 to 12:00 for 40 euros, but when I arrived, I was told it was too late. The reception staff were unhelpful and dismissive, which was frustrating.
The issues didn’t stop there. I had also pre-arranged parking, only to find out that it was located at another hotel, and the space reserved for me was too small for my car. I managed to find parking within the city walls, but I was told it might be a tow zone. When I asked reception if they could check, they refused and instead told me to park outside the walls of Saint-Malo at an additional cost of 40 euros—despite the fact that I had already paid for internal parking.
To top it off, the reception area had an unpleasant odor, and the room was disappointing, with worn sheets, tired carpeting, and visible marks on the walls. The whole place felt rundown and in need of refurbishment. Not the start to my weekend break that I expected, and overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.

I thought we had a two bedroom – it wasn’t. Two twin beds were pushed together (not a king bed!) and there was a pull-out couch. We ended up having to purchase another room for our adult son. The nicest staff member was the man at check-in — pleasant and friendly. Waitstaff in the restaurant were cold, aloof and it took forever just to be acknowledged once we were seated. The surrounding area was very nice and safe,

The location is super convenient, just a few minutes' walk from the bus stop. The room facilities are complete, the service attitude is good, and luggage can be stored. There are many restaurant options downstairs.
