Hotel de France et Chateaubriand

Lovely building and great location. Staff responded well when we had minor issues that needed to be addressed. Stunning breakfast room and also a lovely breakfast though the room was a bit too busy at times We would have liked access to a cosy salon or comfortable place to sit as our room, despite having a wonderful view, was very small.

It is a grand hotel that is a bit shabby at present. We had a room overlooking the ocean. The view was spectacular but the room tiny. The hotel's public rooms are updated and refurbished, in a grand and interesting style, but the guest rooms and hallways are very outdated, old, shabby, not so clean carpet, dingy walls, and outdated bathrooms. The staff is very kind and helpful, we were able to get into our room early. The hotel does not have a shuttle, but it is easy to get from the train station on the # 2 bus, which stops in front of the train station. You get off in front of the tourist bureau (the hotel is a short walk away, through the walled gate and to the right (big white building with blue trim.) The cobblestones make dragging. a suitcase difficult, be ready and be patient. The location of the hotel is wonderful, close to everything, even the beach. The restaurant, Le Petit Crepier was spectacular, ambiance, food, service etc. Punjab had delicious Indian food (lamb vindaloo was great.)

The location is super convenient, just a few minutes' walk from the bus stop. The room facilities are complete, the service attitude is good, and luggage can be stored. There are many restaurant options downstairs.

The hotel was in a good location and the parking lot was very close. The room was nicely decorated and a fair size. Everything was clean. The wifi would go in & out sometimes but was generally good. We enjoyed the breakfast selection. The bathtub/shower that we had in the room was a new arrangement for us. Would prefer a standing shower.

The family room I booked is very large, with two double beds that can sleep 4 people, two wardrobes, a separate room for the toilet, and the bathroom is very clean. The location is super convenient, right at the city gate, with a restaurant street at the door. The lobby is beautifully decorated. It is also the former residence of a famous French writer. It is an old house with rich heritage. In summer evenings, the music played in the old town lasts until midnight. If you like quiet, try to get a sea view room.

It’s a beautiful hotel full of history and close to all the landmarks. The service is professional. If you drive and need a carpark, make sure that you ask them for a discount daily pass.

Food here was sublime. The restaurant was very well looked after and the steak was juicy and soft, utter perfection. Price was good too.
