Hotel La Bussola in Orta San Giulio

This is a nice property that is perfectly situated in Orta San Giulio. They have parking that easy to access and the rooms were nice and very clean. We ate dinner the restaurant there and if we had to do again we would have gotten something in town. Not that it's bad, the service is good however it's a bit pricey for what you get. Overall this is a solid choice that we would be happy to return to.

The hotel is located perfectly and close to the city center.
The staff is very friendly and nice.

Room was clean and comfortable.

Only thing to put a finger on was the cobwebs in the room and terrace. Apart from that:
Great view, peaceful, great food, beautiful pool, helpful and friendly staff. Just a great stay overall.

We loved this place - amazing swimming pool, amazing views (including from the partial lake view rooms), perfect location a short walk from the centre of Orta, brilliant breakfast, comfortable rooms, nice staff. We had mixed feelings about the restaurant for dinner. And if you're coming by train, you need to book your taxi in advance (though the hotel got us out of that hole!). But staying here was a highlight of our holiday - we hope to return!

Cosy, really nice hotel in the best of locations in Orta San Giulio. I spent 4 nights here woth my friends and it was a lovely, very relaxing time. The pool has amazing views, the breakfast/dinner terrace is just perfect and the staff is very nice. All was great. Thank you!

What a great position! The hotel overlooks Lake Orta and the tranquil isola san giulio. We checked in and the lady on reception was very helpful throughout our trip. There is a 7 minute walk downhill to arrive in the centre of the medieval town and small harbour where you can catch the public ferry ( €3,80 return pp) or take a private hire to the island. The hotel’s restaurant has a great view and very friendly and professional staff. The breakfast buffet is excellent with a wide variety to suit everyone. We also had dinner there one night, €42 pp which included an amuse-bouche, a starter, main, pudding or cheese. They were also flexible about changing the set pasta to an a la carte pasta. As the hotel was busy and we had booked late we could only get a standard room without balcony or terrace but it was more than adequate and did have air conditioning. The pool is lovely and there were enough sun loungers and umbrellas. The pool man/lifeguard was friendly and helpful and you can get drinks and snacks/ice creams from the pool bar. There is private parking which is really important as parking in the town is tricky to say the least! We hope to return!

We were very pleased with our choice of this hotel in Lake Orta. As always, we booked directly with the hotel and chose a large room with a balcony overlooking the lake on the 3rd floor. It is walkable into town where you catch the ferries to go to places on the lake including San Giulio Island which we could easily see from our balcony! We had dinner at the hotel 2 nights, where we enjoyed good food, good service and beautiful views. The breakfast was also filling. The swimming pool is lovely and well maintained.

I highly recommend booking la Bussola if you plan on staying in Lake Orta. This is my second year in a row staying here and it keeps getting better. First and foremost, all of the staff are incredibly hospitable, warm and caring. They take such pride in providing excellent customer service. They give great recommendations for places to eat and shop as well. The breakfast is included in the price and is one of my favorite parts of staying here! Be sure to try the donuts at breakfast.
The parking situation is another great factor to consider. You can't drive down in the piazza unless you have a permit and luckily la Bussola offers free parking on-site.
I also needed laundry service during my stay and the hotel took care of everything. All I had to do was drop my clothes off at reception and they were washed, air dried, folded and delivered to my room the very next day!
This hotel is also incredibly clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows are so comfortable.
The air conditioning is another reason to book. This is a necessity for me being 6 months pregnant and visiting Orta in the middle of summer.
Other amenities we enjoyed are playing ping pong, lounging by the pool, and being close to the lake - be sure to ask reception the quickest way to access the lake.
Aside from that, please note that it's about a 10 minute or less walk from the hotel to the piazza and there's alot of stairs involved.
Also, if you arrive in Orta before check in time, just let reception know. They were able to hold our bags for us and then they delivered it to our room once our room was ready. They also let us park for free which is another great perk. I cant say enough great things about my recent stay with this stunning hotel. The staff, views, price and food all make this the best option to book if you're in the area :) Big thank you to La Bussola for an unforgettable stay!

A lovely family run hotel. Easily accessible BEFORE the pedestrian only town itself so no hastles with luggage. Very friendly & efficient staff with everything spotlessly clean.Had large suite & terrace overlooking Orta San Giulio and beautiful Lake Orta. Also enjoyed separate large spa bath & separate shower. Lovely pool with sun loungers . Breakfast continental, ample choice , from cereals, meats, cheeses and fresh fruits and yoghurts. Perfect for setting you up for the day Picturesque setting & easy walk from hotel into town though word of caution: hilly climb up multiple steps from shoreline back to hotel. I imagine this may be difficult for less able persons

We stayed at this hotel on the final night of our Rick Steve's Villages of Italy tour. The hotel was lovely. Overlooking the island in the middle of the lake was beautiful and so restful. Our room was very bright and large. We had a balcony to sit outside and enjoy the view. The bed was comfortable - sleeping was easy. The shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The staff was very friendly and professional. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel!
