Hotel Calypso

I returned yesterday after a wonderful 2 weeks solo holiday at the Hotel Calypso. On arrival I discovered I had been upgraded to a room with a seaview....the view from my balcony was really lovely. Yes the rooms are a bit dated but extremely comfortable and very clean. Housekeeping was in every day and towels were replaced regularly. Reception staff were extremely helpful and a big thank you to Alexandra for all the advice. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of fresh fruit available. The hotel is right on the harbour which is lined with restaurants. The freshwater pool is on the rooftop and there are plenty of comfortable sun loungers available...the view of the bay is amazing. I really don't understand the negative comments from people....I can't think of a single one. Thank you everyone for an extremely relaxing holiday...I am now about to book a return visit for spring 2025.

Spent six nights here at the Calypso in November. Great location with some fantastic walks along the shore road. Rooftop terrace with pool and the rooms with a seaview were the reason why I booked. Would stop again.

Loved this hotel. Room was comfortable, having a bath tub rather than a shower. Mattress was surprisingly good. The beach and the restaurants on the waterfront were a stone throw away from the hotel. The breakfast was abundant and delicious and the rooftop pool clean, and always with lovely music in the background. The staff were all polite and helpful. The only downside was the lack of private parking, nevertheless there is a largish parking area 3 minutes walk from the hotel.

Had a great time here so would definitely recommend. My star rating is based on individual assessment. The staff here were knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and most importantly really easy to talk with. Can't praise them enough. The hotel is of an era, yes. But that era is not too distant so whoever is complaining in their review....well.... I can only imagine they spend too much time on trigger happy sites and have attention spans that blister under close scrutiny. The breakfast was a great spread and I saw folk from all walks enjoying the offerings. Maybe the coffee machine is a little under par compared with the rest of the course. Overall I enjoy visiting spaces that are of a time. Whatever standards we are expecting in an over consumerized, cookie cutter, Starbucks franchise enthused extreme this is not.....thank goodness. Let's remain a little calm and accept that things, when they can, should be simple for the earth's sake.

Beautiful hotel
Unfortunately our room was situated at the back of the hotel,the view was unsightly ugly.
Originally when we booked it was said the pool wouldn't be open but after getting in touch with the hotel they said it would be open but wouldn't be manned,however when we went to use it It was closed off due to maintenance.This was extremely disappointing as I had my 3 grandchildren with us.
