Phi Phi Ba Kao Bay Resort

Please keep in mind three things before you read this review:
1. this resort is for travellers on a budget. 2. I am rating this based on what I paid to stay. In other words, you get what you pay for. 3. The resort is at the quiet north end of the island, away from Tonsai and its frivolous night life. You need to check google maps so you understand that Phi Phi is an island of contrasts. It has no real roads, so getting around is (mostly) by boat or foot. Now onto the details --I travelled solo and paid around £40/night to stay here (in high season) and I thought it was a bargain and a good, cheap way of exploring Phi Phi when it's at its peak and most expensive. I paid for a bungalow with a patio, so it's smaller than the luxury bungalows that this resort has to offer. The bungalow was basic but was clean and well air conditioned. There was a fridge to put cold drinks and food, good wifi internet for watching films and surfing, and a reasonably sized bathroom/wet room. The room had a double bed and a table, wardrobe and small TV. It has what you need, though I never saw a hair dryer. The manager (Dene) was very welcoming and looked after me. The resort is at the north end of the island which is quiet and situated in a small village that comes to life at night. Try Camel Rock bar and Buffalo Head bar for drinks and 'Pad Thai' restaurant for eats. If you want to be in the busy area of Tonsai with its fire shows, boxing arenas, and hundreds of bars, you need to get on a long tail boat for 30 mins. This resort at Loh Bagao/Bakao is for travellers who value the quiet and more remote north end of Phi Phi. The resort provides a free shuttle to Tonsai at set times of the day. It is your responsibility to check out and be clear about where you will be staying on Phi Phi. Phi Phi has resorts scattered around everywhere and while some are in busy areas, others are far more remote or even cut off. You need to check these things before booking. There's far more to Phi Phi than just Tonsai. This little resort is safe and friendly for solo travellers whether you are male or female. There are 3 lovely beaches close by. One is in SAii village resort, one is at Laem Tong beach which is a 10 min sidecar taxi journey by coastal road and the other is called Loh Lana Bay. Laem Tong has a few resorts and lovely eateries on it. Worth the 100 baht taxi journey to get there.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a nice time. The price was right and the room was comfortable. This was the most affordable place to stay in the Ba Koa Bay area, so if you want a 5 star resort, this is not the spot for you. But if you need a decent, cute resort with good customer service and walking distance to restaurants, bars, and the beach, I would recommend it! I would stay here again

If I could rate this resort higher stars, I would. The staff here are the loveliest people and so kind and helpful. They helped my boyfriend and I bring our luggage right to the room from the boat. The rooms were so clean and very spacious. This resort is a quiet slice of paradise but has everything you need close by. A minute walking distance from bars, shops, restaurants, and anything you need. It's simply a lovely little village, and this resort made our time here even better. The pool was fantastic. The shower had hot water both days.may I also add the bedding was the softest we experienced our southeast asia travels. We only booked one night, but the second we got there, we wanted to book for longer, but unfortunately, we were heading to koh lanta the following day and already had accomodation booked for koh lanta, But we will return without a doubt. Mr din who works there and helped us from the boats with our luggage, is a real credit to this place. He helped us book our boat for our next island. His kindness and attentiveness to detail did not go unnoticed, and I hope he gets recognition for the hard work he puts into this resort. He really did us fall in love with phi phi. If you're going to Phi phi and want to get away from the madness and masses of people then this is the place to go. Beautiful little village with everything you need

A very nice stay. Perfect for quite and calm weekends.

When you arrive at Tonsai Pier (main Pier) at Phi Phi there are dozens of boat drivers waiting with hotel nameplates waiting for you. One of them will take you to this place. It is quite far from the main part of the island, the trip takes maybe 20 mins by boat.

This part of the island is very calm, quiet, not so many tourists. A few restaurants, a couple local stores and massage salons, a driving center and that's probably all you have here.

We stayed at the bungalow, it was comfortable, there was A/C, hot water, every day cleaning. WiFi was unstable, you can scroll the wikipedia but it will be complicated to watch a movie. Of course there are some insects and frogs outside, they can get into the bathroom at night, but we didn't see anything in the room. It's a common thing for bungalow type accommodations anyway.

There is a pool also, but we didn't use it. The transfer from the main Pier to the hotel and backwards (only once) is free. If you plan to explore the main part of the island you should know that the boat price is pretty expensive (about 1000 per boat one way only).

The owner is very friendly, he helped us in every way possible and organised an island tour for us.

Good value for the money you pay. Please keep in mind that this resort is for people who are travelling on a budget. It is not appropriate for people who are expecting 3 to 5 star hotels. I found the resort to be quiet and conveniently nestled at the centre of Loh Bagao bay village. Travellers of all ages stay here and the guests and resort staff are friendly and chilled out. The manager is called Deen and he is very kind, smiley and friendly and works hard to please his guests. All staff on site were friendly and polite. The rooms are very basic but clean and have the necessary provisions (free Wifi, good air con, a bathroom with shower, a double bed, clean sheets, a wardrobe, desk and a TV). They also have either small patios or balconies outside with table and chairs. For the money I paid, I was very happy. The village comes to life at night with numerous bars and eateries. A lovely place to spend your evenings. I recommend a visit to nearby Camel Rock bar and Buffalo Head bar. Both have friendly staff and lovely chilled atmosphere. At the end of my visit, the resort gave me a free taxi to the beach and then a free longtail boat to Tonsai bay. Excellent!

Extremely nice staff, really helpful and ready to make your stay unforgettable (especially Din).
Din came to pick us up at the pier, brought our luggages at the bungalow and was really helpful in organizing our way back. We decided to extend our stay to 1 additional night and they easily found a solution.

The location is great, in the middle of the local village and close to all restaurants. You need 2/3 minutes to reach the beach.

The bungalow was really clean and the bed sheets as well.
Yes you will be waken up at 5am by a 2 minutes Adhan (early morning Muslim call) but did not bother me that much.

Finally, price/quality ratio was more than fine and the standard of the hotel was clearly to expectations for the price.
About the negative comments, you are on an island, in the middle of the jungle and far from Europe, if you expect the same quality as in your place for that price and if you are scared about little bugs, I recommend you save a bit more money and go to the 5* hotel located right aside with European standard.

Staff were lovely, especially Dedan! Awesome location on the quieter side of the island with a convenience store just outside the hotel. Rooms were simple but did the job, bathroom wasn’t great.
