No parking available for the hotel only valet. The main elevator didn’t go to the fourth floor so the only two options were walk around the entire hotel or take the stairs. The room is clean but smelled like pee. We tried to hide the scent and nothing worked. windows were broken. no mini fridge or microwave in the room and the hardware was falling off in the bathroom. cute-ish hotel and in a good spot but not worth the money. next time will stay closer to beach and drive

This hotel appears nice in photos but is more of a party spot for very young people. The bathroom was so small there was one inch of clearance between the toilet and door, so you had to do an awkward dance to get in. Also the bathroom door didn’t actually close. There was food in the hall from room service that wasn’t picked up in the 24 hours we spent there. This isn’t really a hotel for grown ups.

This hotel is located really central and the rooms are clean- but that’s the only good things I have to say. The employees are rude and value restaurant guests higher than hotel guests. There’s very limited first come first serve pool area seating for hotel guests, but big tables and seating areas for people who aren’t guests. I was told I wasn’t allowed to bring my coffee from outside the hotel inside the hotel because “they sell it there” and I should have “bought from the hotel restaurant”. I would recommend staying somewhere else. The hotel is partially under construction and there was no warning about that, so you have to lug your suitcase up stairs to check in. And the pool bathrooms are actually just in a hotel room that they don’t have a guest staying in.

The front desk attendant that checked us in was rude and unprofessional. First, she checked us in and just gave us a room key, didn't even tell us directions to our room. Upon check out we saw we got charged a $29 amenity fee. We were NEVER told about any amenities when we checked in. I later checked online and saw bikes were offered, we got a $10 credit each day at the restaurant, we were supposed to have a yoga mat in the room, I never saw a yoga mat. We were never told any of this. Also, We checked in for three nights and were given a small room, smaller than normal. A HUge portion of the room was taken up by the elevator that was right next door. We nicely asked if there were bigger rooms available. She said "I don't know how to help you they're all the same size" well this one was significantly smaller than other rooms. She called her manager and spoke to them on the phone like "You just tell me what to do, I don't know what to do" the whole time not even looking at us and checking her cell phone. We ended up having to pay more for a larger room. We expected that since we were guests for 3 nights we would be given a bigger room to begin with. She was visibly very annoyed with us and we were being really nice. We were paying a large price for three nights and wanted a little more space. I stressed my wife was pregnant and we wanted more space and she was still rude and baffled we asked for more space. What's more frustrating is my friends checked in after us and asked if there were bigger rooms available and they got a free room upgrade yet we had to pay $15 more? That's not right. the other front desk attendants we talked with were night, though. On top of all that there was construction happening. We weren't told that would happen. We could hear construction taking place during the early hours in the morning. This hotel is WAY overpriced. If you're visiting Charleston, there's nicer hotels in the area where you actually get what you pay for. Do not stay here .

We just stayed at the Ryder for a wedding with a large group of our friends and everyone had a bad experience. The hotel was under construction and didn't let us know prior to arrival. There were men smoking and coughing and using jackhammers right outside our windows at 8:30 am. Several of us were charged for items we didn't purchase at the hotel restaurant/bar. On Saturday, our group rented cabanas at the pool and many of us weren't allowed to join the party because the pool was at capacity. We had a two hour reservation and half of the guests from our party couldn't attend, however, they allowed another group outside of ours to be there. The hotel charges an "amenities fee" and also neglected to tell us that the pool would be closed for a private event Sunday so we weren't allowed to use it before our departure. If they would have told me in advance via email about the construction and pool closures and set the expectation, I could have made a more informed decision and stayed elsewhere or changed plans and wouldn't be upset. We wanted to spend our last day in Charleston relaxing at the pool and intentionally chose a late flight out to enjoy our time and we weren't able to do that. We had no body wash or conditioner in our room during our entire stay even though I asked for it to be filled twice. We also had to ask for towels because we had none in the room. When I expressed my disappointment, the manager on duty was very rude and told me it's not his responsibility to inform guests of construction! This is not a luxury hotel nor does it provide a high-end experience. It's not even able to provide basic essentials or consideration. Don't let the photos fool you. This place is a joke and its management is in dire need of an education in hospitality.

Recently stayed for a night and fell in love with the hotel and what it had to offer. All of the staff were Welcoming and wanted to help in any way to make sure we had everything we needed. The rooms were clean and spacious. We ate breakfast in the dining area and enjoyed it. The food was great and at a good price. The hotel is in walking distance to a good bit of Charleston's main attractions. Will probably be staying at this hotel again in the future.

2 nights. Comfortable. Cordial & professional staff. Great central location. Spacious room & well furnished. Good shower/bath. A wonderful landmark hotel within walking distance to all of the best downtown Charleston & The Peninsula has to offer.

Very friendly staff. Very well maintained building. Seems new not like it was built in the 1950's. Love the free parking. Nice comfortable and quiet rooms. Amazing location! Easy walk to the city market, waterfont park, king street shopping and more. Some reviews have said the bathrooms are small they are a decent size.

Great hotel in great location for sightseeing in Charleston. Can't do better for being within walking distance of popular sights. Between Marion Square and City Market, one block from King Street (restaurants and shopping), and on Meeting Street. Older boutique hotel. Finishes are good, but not new. Staff is very helpful. Free parking on site. In house breakfast restaurant and evening pub are pleasant and good value. Not newest or fanciest, do a good job at reasonable rates for upper mid-level lodging.

Best boutique hotel. Free parking garage a plus. Easy walking to shopping and great restaurants. Rooms appointed nicely. Bath products upscale. Fluffy towels and comfortable mattress. Have stayed here four times over 2 years. Consistently 5*
