ANU - University House Hotel
Canberra, 1 Balmain Crescent 🧭 Map
University House is Building No. 1 on the ANU campus landscape. The house was designed by Prof Brian Lewis of the University of Melbourne, drawing inspiration from the colleges of Cambridge and Oxford University, and from newer European universities. The furniture that still graces it's room was designed by Fred Ward, Australians leading industrial designer of the period. University House has been...
Classy dining with a heritage setting in the confines of a big university. The wine selection is excellent and there is a choice of indoor and outdoor dining weather permitting with cheaper options available. Formal top end dining is also available with excey cuisine. Parking is plentiful and free after 5 pm and all day on weekends.
Old world, simple but spacious & clean. Very comfy bed, nice treed view. Great balcony. The restaurant was superb. The cafe was good though bar service there was slow. Easy to get around & helpful staff.
Perfect place for a conference.
Loved the location, close to the city center, peaceful and quiet. The rooms were spacious, and air-conditioned with a balcony. Definitely recommend it.
Room was a very simple two bedroom affair with a small bathroom and balcony. It had fairly old furnishings, but had a TV and fridge to it's credit. The main highlight of our stay was the serene and incredibly quiet garden outside as well as the proximity to the university. Though we did not attend them, the hotel had a bar and restaurant available. All in all a very pleasant stay.
Old Style charm. Modern amenities. A good hotel

We enjoyed our recent two-night stay at the Best Western in Canberra. As a base for a short trip, it offered great value for money and a quiet, comfortable experience.
The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep both nights. We were particularly impressed with the friendly and helpful staff at the front desk, who made check-in and check-out smooth...
I found hotel has amiable staff and its clean as well.
Great location. Clean but a little bit outdated. Overall good for value.
Service was great! Place was clean, bed was very comfortable. It's easy to find with parking on-site. Good breakfast provided is an added bonus!
Is a place beautiful and near of centre

Don't choose this hotel for family trips. It's the largest room type, but it's still unsatisfactory. The hotel faces the road on three sides, which is very noisy. In the morning, trees were chopped across the street. You can sleep directly on the construction site. There are spider webs in the room and black dirt in the bathroom. I changed hotels immediately on the second night!
What can I say about this place, look it's a low score because of the following.
Room - the room was actually really nice however the layout was weird and it was overly dark with no extra lights to make it lighter. At times we had to use our phone camera lights.
Service - I felt like we were treated very much like second class citizens. We booked through booking.com and it just had a feel like that...
5 stars rating for a 5 star experience!
Very funky styling and architectural design, we immediately fell in love when we walked in the building. Super cool, and even the room is the smallest type, it still feels comfortable and thoughtful in details.
Can’t resist the roughness accent adds in the interior of the hotel, artistic and stylish!
The Monster Restaurant was a good option to dine in as well...
We had the best stay during Easter break at this unique hotel. The hotel, the staff and the service is top notch. Special mention to Mandeep at the Reception who made our check-in so smooth and special. We knew we were off to a good start. Also, would like to acknowledge Hriz's exceptional service at the breakfast, he was under the pump but kept a smile on his face. Loved their passion to make their...
My partner and I had our wedding reception here and it was absolutely magical 😍 From the moment we viewed the Mosaic Room, we knew this is where we wanted to have our special celebration! The wedding packages are very flexible and tailored to your needs and wants, right down to the food that's served! We had complimentary menu tasting before our event to ensure the food was what we envisioned, which...
Truly fabulous hotel! Location, super quiet, heavenly beds, with great pillows .. well thought out, excellent mini with lots of local stuff available, really everything you need without making a fuss about it .. funky decor with a seriously excellent design ideas.

Everyone was very polite and willing to do a little extra for us
The hotel was perfectly located for our needs. Great hotel and staff were friendly and helpful.
Our internet service wasn’t good / and shower had a little bit issues. The hotel solved it quickly . The hotel service is excellent. in the room it provide coffee machine / kettle - Italy good brand . Also I really like the shower gel / body lotion provided by the hotel - these all 5 stars hotel standard. It is highly recommended. Cleanliness, friendly staff & made my stay in the ACT smooth & memorable. I recommend Abode Gungahlin for anyone who is after a warm & welcoming place to stay whilst visiting Canberra. Great job everyone!
Very very clean, rooms are a good size, plenty of hot water and quiet.
Great location able to walk to shops restaurants and entertainment.
Clean, well presented rooms, staff were lovely and helpful.
Comfortable beds, friendly staff and good location with everything you need near by without heading into the city. Rooms are not sound proof so not good for sleeping in.
Was a great place to stay at! Loved you had a washer and dryer provided in the rooms too! Will definitely stay here again!
Rooms were nice, clean etc. The only problem I that the carparks are not monitored so they fill up with people going to the pub. Leaving you driving laps of the streets trying to find somewhere to park for the night.

Good little business hotel. Has a library where you can work on the laptop or take calls. Also has a nespresso coffee machine and water for your hydration needs. Have been coming here for years. Highly recommended.
Great property. Staff were so helpful and kind.
Really enjoyed our stay at Little National
Nice cosy hotel.
Perfect place for chilling out and reading books.
Amazing views as well.
Cleaning services during the stay was not thoroughly done, which was a little bit disappointing.
Overall, stay was very satisfying.
The room is small but well equipped. The bed is comfy. The public area is nice. The library provides with free cold and sparkling water. It is so easy to bottle up the water before I head out for the day.
They also have a microwave and coffee machine. They provide complimentary apples which are crunchy and sweet. The $6 muffin is also good.

We were very happy with our adjoining rooms. Staff very accommodating to any queries or needs.
Will stay again.
We can hear people next door talking as we were arranged to stay at a connecting room. The door crack is so wide that we can hear people next door talking which gives a sense of insecurity. It is suggested that the door crack should be fixed, for the privacy of people staying at the two rooms who do not know each other.
The Reception staff was friendly and welcoming upon our arrival.
Our room was well appointed and comfortable.
When we need convenient and affordable accommodation in Canberra, we will definitely book in.
We had a great stay at The Statesman for a work stint in Canberra. The rooms were clean and comfortable, it’s close to everything and a really nice bar and restaurant downstairs. I was there on a Thursday and the place was buzzing with the meat raffle. Couldn’t fault the service.
Happy with the room , TV.didnt have free to air commercial channels 9 & 7 and the night service desk is basically a help line that were very polite but useless telling me they would send an email at 7:30 the next day which was no help considering I was booking out the next morning.
Coffee n Tea wants updating with some non sugar sweeteners added to the mix

Rooms are a little small, but the bed was so comfortable. The staff could not do enough for us and were so welcoming. They even came out to meet our dogs. Perfect location for us as we were showing our dogs at Canberra Royal Show
I liked it. I thought it was pretty good. I struggle with a lot of mattresses (see my other review for sofitel manila) but the queen size I had here at Ibis was excellent. No sore back! The room was hard to beat for the money. TV, bar fridge, ensuite and clean! Stayed here for three nights. Staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were tidy, the rooms were reasonably priced and parking was no drama. There were only a few down sides. We were there as a family and had a great time. The staff were lovely and accommodating and made our stay very smooth. Clean room with all the essentials that we needed. Quick drive into city center and lovely walk through the bush right behind the hotel. We’d definitely stay here again on our next trip to Canberra. Matt, the general manager, went above and beyond. Thank you!
Nice place to stay and has a cozy room with attached bath. Breakfast is okay. The Staff is really friendly and cater for all the needs.
Stay here for 4 weeks, great place, all staffs offer 5 stars service especially ladies and Mr manager in the reception. Clean bed stuff warm water and very good WiFi speed with no problem playing YouTube. I saw rooms are detail cleaned and bed stuff changed after guests left everyday. Very good location, close to light rail stop, Canberra centre and you can easily catch a coach downstairs.
The location is excellent, surrounded by great choices for restaurants, bars and convenience shops. Happy hour at the hotel 4-6pm about $14 for a schooner and wine. The room though was dated, and not the best value for money.
Parking at the hotel is limited but has nearby parking options which cost less than the hotel’s daily rate.
Check-in service was a bit slow as only one staff member at the desk, and also tickets that weren’t included for the Pompeii exhibition weren’t available for some reason, so we had to wait a while before we actually received the tickets.

It's always a pleasure to enter the cosy reception area on a cold Canberra day. I was given an apartment with a fold out bed first. Felt like I would be in camping and not in a hotel. From the moment you pull up in the car at this hotel you realize it will have some challenges. All the spots are taken in front of the hotel at the 1/2 hour parking area nearest the check in and were for our entire three night stay. Warm air from Air con was very very bad (insufficient power) during my stay ambient was -3C in the evening. No heater is available, bath room is not separated from shower space, water from shower inevitably wet the toilet seating area.
Breakfast value for money
Overall very good value for money, good location. An adequate budget hotel if comfortable staying somewhere comfortable not wearing top of the range clothing with top of the range accessories.
Curtains need new hooks, but facilities in room adequate and clean
I have stayed at Madison Capital in Braddon many times now. Walking distance to cafes, restaurants, bars & shopping centre. Nice continental breakfast included.
Convenient location at heart of Canberra. But room is crowded with basic supplies. Parking lot is full, parked along side curb. Breakfast has little choice. There is no hot food for breakfast. Disappointed.
Quite good for an one night stay. Can't wrong the location. Reception is great but breakfast is something you can give a miss if you are looking for a variety.
The room is not soundproofed, the cars passing downstairs are very noisy, and I can't sleep well. The breakfast is very simple。The parking space is too narrow, which tests your parking skills。

A large motel style building with hotel style daily service and concierge. In a beautifully suburban site that's ultra quiet and removed from Canberra's central city buzz. The peace and serenity. The bed was comfortable, and it was a good mattress. The views, watching the ducks and animals. Everything worked. Would highly recommend. Good value for money.
Quiet location, park a little dated, but the facilities are wonderfully clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The BBQ facilities are amazingly cleaned regularly and less than 20 minutes to Canberra CBD. Great value.
Stayed at lake view villa 4 from October 10 to October 14 2022.
Enjoyed our stay. Park staff friendly and helpful.
Villa presentation was clean and tidy.
Bathroom needs a few extra hooks for hanging clothes, and a grab handle in shower to prevent falls, as shower floor can be slippery . These are small issues .
Overall a very good stay.
Would return again in the future if visiting Canberra .
I absolutely loved this Caravan park but what set this apart from most caravan sites is the dog freedom areas but be sure to book in early just drive in and close thd gate behind for the safety of your dog the fence is about 1.4m high which will keep most creatures out. all the amenities where above par just the bathroom closed to where we stay may need some updating. but still worthy of 5 stars
Have been here twice. Quiet, well maintained and clean. Pool, tennis court. Could be noisy if large school groups booked into bunk cottages. About 10mins drive into town, out of peak morning. Free WiFi.
Every time we've stayed it's been more than acceptable. Good value and nice surroundings.
