Waldhotel Bärenstein in Horn-Bad Meinberg

We stayed at Waldhotel Bärenstein and had an overall positive experience. From the outside the hotel looks a bit dated – especially on the garden side where a fresh coat of paint would help – but once inside you can clearly see that the owner is working on modernizing. There is Wi-Fi, a smart TV, and the furniture in the rooms looks neat and well-kept. Still, several guests shared our impression: the hotel is on the expensive side. The location and facilities justify much of this, but at this price point there are a few things that could be improved.

Rooms: The rooms are clean and well maintained, without intrusive housekeeping visits during your stay. They are not noisy, which is very pleasant. Upon arrival our room was very warm. A fan was provided, but it hardly cooled the room. The balcony door can be opened, but without a screen insects can easily come inside. Considering that summers are getting warmer, installing air conditioning, adding insect screens, and offering a thin sheet (in addition to the warm but comfortable duvet) would be welcome improvements.

Food & Drinks: The restaurant serves good and reasonably priced food. The breakfast buffet is extensive and of good quality. However, a few things could be improved. During dinner, the kitchen closed surprisingly early – we had been seated for less than an hour when we were told that ordering dessert was no longer possible as 21h was passed. (It was communicated the restaurant was open until 22h). A short announcement from the staff would have made this clearer. At breakfast, the seating arrangement felt a bit awkward.

Despite some areas for improvement, the facilities, location and friendly staff make this hotel a place I would recommend for many travelers.

The area is beautiful and the hotel is great value for money. Good breakfast with local products too. The room was good and the service too.

Cosy hotel in a beautiful location. Friendly staff, good food and a generous breakfast buffet. Great room with sunny balcony overlooking the ski slope. A few minutes walk to Externsteine and about 18 km round trip to Hermannsdenkmal. Many hiking options from the hotel.

Very nice, quiet hotel, harmoniously integrated into nature. Everyone is friendly, the rooms are clean and cozy. We would like to come back again.

All in all very relaxing location with great facilities at a decent price. Probably one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. Staff was very friendly and professional. Great value!

Great hotel in excellent location.

1 month ago we stayed for 5 nights in Waldhotel Bärenstein. I've delayed making a review far too long, but that is because I find it difficult to top all the other positive reviews that this hotel already has.
As far as I'm concerned a hotel experience consists of three parts, the location, the building and the personnel.
The location is exceptional, the location in the middle of the woods is ideal for walks and extremely quiet, the building has all the aminities a 4 star hotel should have, an indoor swimmingpool, a gym, a restaurant and the rooms themselves are luxurious with a very nice balcony and good bathroom but it is the personnel that makes this hotel exceptional.
The staff is always a team effort so it would not be fair to put only one person in the spotlight, so I am sorry Frau Carolin Reimer but you and the rabbit lamp made our stay at the hotel a memory we will cherish for a very long time.

I stayed at the Hotel Bärenstein for four nights in July 2024 as part of a family event. We were 18 people altogether, plus an additional six who attended a function and stayed for one night. My family of four had two double rooms. The rooms were very spacious and well-equipped with a TV, coffee/tea station, fridge, free bottle of water and ample storage space. No A/C, though, but the weather wasn’t too hot, fortunately. Otherwise, our boys’ room in particular might have gotten quite warm, as it was a rather odd maisonette room with a small downstairs room and a long hallway, bathroom, and sleeping area upstairs under the roof. The décor of both rooms was completely tasteless. It really was pretty bad, as in orange carpeting, red and green checkered sofa, blue chairs with gold legs and brown curtains. And no, they weren’t trying to be hip, all of it was rather old-fashioned and a bit worn. The hotel has a good-sized indoor pool and a very nice spa area with two saunas and a steam bath that we made extensive use of. The food was so-so. Breakfast wasn’t bad, but choices were rather limited and the coffee wasn’t good at all. One can order speciality coffee from the servers free of charge, but they didn’t offer this if I recall correctly. We had to ask. We had dinner twice at the hotel, once on our first night there and once as part of the family function. The first dinner wasn’t good at all. The soup was much too salty and the fish I ordered was bland. The desert wasn’t good, either. None of our party liked the food. It was much better on the second occasion, though. It still wasn’t the most delicious food we ever tasted, but we enjoyed it. The restaurant ran out of the wine my parents had chosen as dinner wine midway through the meal, though. The staff were friendly enough, but didn’t always seem very eager to accommodate the guests. They once closed the bar half an hour early, for example, even though we were still sitting in the beer garden outside, having drinks. The hotel’s location is good with hiking paths starting directly at the property, one of them an easy walk to one of the major sights in the area, the Externsteine. Several other sights are a short drive away.

I stayed over at this hotel for 2 nights. The breakfast are good. The room I booked is deluxe type. Clean and comfortable room. There was a coffee machine inside the room. The parking lot is free.
