A true hidden gem in Remscheid. Nice and modern rooms, a nice breakfast and very friendly staff. I really recommend the Ascot!

Stayed here on a business trip. For business purposes it was fine. It is not near downtown so you will need to drive or take taxis to most places. Rooms were clean and fairly large for European standards but a bit basic. Large tvs but only one channel in English and they have locked the settings so you can’t enable subtitles which was frustrating. However the hallway floors are not carpeted so they transmit a fair amount of noise through the room doors. Staff were polite and helpful although there is no evening service so you will have to call a number for help if you arrive in the evening. No lunch or dinner service but there are a couple of good restaurants in easy walking distance. Breakfast is a buffet which is excellent. Lots of variety, fresh food, and a fresh squeezed orange juice machine. Much better selection than most hotels I have stayed in in Germany. Value will depend on what you pay for your room when you book. I found it quite reasonably priced. And if you want to tour the Cologne area, Remscheid is only 1h15m away by train and you will find hotel prices can be 1/3 of the cost of staying in Cologne itself.

I came to Remscheid for a wedding and although the Ascot Hotel is a nice hotel in itself (clean, nice rooms, good breakfast choice.) I found the customer service disappointing. On the day I checked in I was told there was no in-house restaurant so if I wanted something to eat they “couldn’t help”. Then on Sunday morning I asked if I could book a taxi and I got a blunt “no” in response. When I asked why, the lady in reception said “oh there are no taxis around today” then when I asked if I could get an Uber they said, “no, there is no Uber out here.” I found the staff to be very unhelpful and they were very clear that it was my problem and not for them to resolve. Later that evening I thought I would order some wine and snacks from the bar menu but they had shut so I had to get a pizza delivery to the hotel. Then when I got up the following morning at 9:15 am they said breakfast was over (which I thought was rather early to finish) and then they said, “okay go sit and just take what you want”. Which, again, felt rude and unhelpful. Finally, I asked if they did currency exchange as they said they did in their hotel handbook but I was told, bluntly, by the reception team that I would have to go to a bank. No helpful suggestions, no advice on where I could find a bank or currency exchange, just clear communication that it wasn’t their problem and I needed to resolve it by myself. All in all, I felt that for a 4 star hotel there should have been a higher level of service and a desire to help customers more. Especially when they are prepared to pay it.

Business were 2 days in this Hotel and the 4 stars really deserved it! Breakfast is very good and the staff very friendly.
It is, therefore, strongly recommend! Positive, the cash payment with cash Discount if you pay with a card.

Very clean room, modern, bright and quite spacious. Friendly staff at the reception. A large free car Park is located directly at the house.
The beds are very comfortable and back-friendly, there are more than enough Seating available, as well as a large TV, an extra Luggage rack and complimentary beverages stocked mini-bar.
The bathroom is also super light and spacious, there is a XXXL-mirror, a large shower, plenty of towels, a hair dryer is available. In my opinion, an additional storage facility would be appropriate.
The entrance area of the rooms equipped, is anything but cramped, the wardrobe big enough and with enough hangers. There is an additional wardrobe and a mirror.
The Breakfast is very, very good! In all areas, a great selection, fresh fruit, many different juices, spreads, breads, cereals, Hot...
The only star deduction I give for the loud slamming Doors and across the hall to the cleaning call staff in the morning - that's annoying and needs to be easy.

Everything is super, only it's a bit stupid that it is in the "summer" (may/June) there is quite a thick and Warm bedding. Otherwise, everything is actually really good except for holding the above-described and that the shower (in room 29) really tight.

Positive: "filling of the Minibar was free of charge" ... if you want more you have to pay. Sky channels were for the visitors. You could Park free of charge. The rooms were fairly quiet.
Negative: The beds were much too soft. This is not to everyone's taste. With the cleanliness in the bathroom, it was not taken very seriously.
Funny: ever Been to a TAE socket in the bathroom seen? There is here!

I'm on business frequently on the go and sleep on a regular basis in various Hotels. I had a flawless, clean rooms with free Wi-Fi and Sky, as well as free Minibar. It Parking spaces are also sufficiently available. The Breakfast buffet is super. At the next appointment in Remscheid I would be back here.
