Reviews
The bad thing was that it was very warm in the room. Only able to handle it by sleeping with the window open, but still too warm!
My first room was a junior suite. The couch had a stain that I could only describe as NSFW fluids. I was appalled at the thought that housekeeping can't clean such an obvious stain, especially when it appears to be bodily fluids. I did not want to sit in the bodily fluids of previous guests in my €240/night hotel room.
In addition to this, the sink was not mounted properly. The air conditioning was stuck on heat only (cooling disabled by management), and the house keeping did turn it up to 28C, so it took ages to not sweat in our room. The sink was also broken and the body wash was empty. The TV's 100+ channels are mostly broken, so be prepared and pack a chromecast and portable router.
We used the QR code in the room to request robes and slippers. The request went unanswered for hours. We then had to use the same qr code to lookup the number for the front desk, as the room phones don't even have a button for reception. Upon request robes were brought to our room, but not slippers. Slippers are available but 2 requests later we still didn't receive them. We eventually found them in the spa area, guarded by the attendants.
The breakfast buffet is seriously crowded on the weekends, so we spent too long to find a table. We had to wait 30 minutes for the Japanese breakfast to be restocked. Then another 20 minutes in line for the coffee machine. Overlapping this with everyone else checking out, it is impossible to leave the breakfast area. The "smart" elevator system can't handle so many guests and would erase our reservations and cars would skip us. We had to beg the service staff to use their elevator!
The sauna area had a broken wet sauna and broken weight machine. This is such a large percentage of what is offered that it feels criminal to let these go broken.
When I submitted these complaints I was upgraded to a "larger" room. The executive suite I was put in was smaller than my junior suite. The junior suite had a separate bathroom from the toilet, while this "executive" suite only had 1 cramped combined bathroom. With the wet sauna being broken I had purchased some nice bath products, but now I cannot fit in the tub. The lack of privacy in the bathroom was not something I appreciated in such an expensive room. The living room area was also much smaller.
Our new executive suite also had a broken air conditioning and was facing the road, so it was hot and loud. We could not sleep at all.
When I spoke to management on the way out there was nothing further they could do. We already moved rooms one within our trip and we were too tired to put up with the shenanigans. Stay away from this scam hotel unless someone else is paying.
The location is perfect, very close to the metro and walking distance to Altstadt.
The rooms were clean and well appointed.
The staff were all very pleasant to work with.
I loved the cocktail bar in the main lobby, great for entertaining clients. With a very good selection to choose from and a very friendly bartender willing to offer suggestions.
The room was quiet. I have issues sleeping, but I had no issues here as it was not noisy.
The size of the rooms and bathroom is slightly small, but perfect for what I needed.
The only negative that I have is that there is not a café in the lobby, I walked about a block away each morning to get my latte, which was not a huge deal.
After the hotel changed to Clayton, we see some changes in not so positive ways…
Now the hotel is doing reconstruction and the whole quality is even more unsteady. We experienced stinky and unclean rooms. Hopefully the rooms will be fine after the reconstruction and the quality of the hotel will get better again soon.
After all the location is great.
But alone the great location isn’t enough.
One thing I would like to mention is the hotel bar. The cocktails there are really delicious. We were there one night when it was with many people but the bar manager dealt with the situation well and still made super delicious cocktails. (Thumbs up with 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
Water pressure very low, horrible smell coming from bathroom and the furniture was damaged.
Would be nice to update the furniture in the future, since the price is quite high for such quality.
On the other hand, staff was nice and the pool had a wonderful view.
It was worthed paying the extra unannounced money for it..
The food in the hotel is a bit expensive but was lovely. We had breakfast on the first morning.....Fresh produce and just gorgeous. It wasn't for us though every morning, with having a teenager who is a bit picky with food.
The bar, again, very friendly staff 🥰😀
WiFi was good, although on occasions (twice on a 7 night stay) had to reconnect which wasnt an issue, it happens.
Oh how I miss it already 😢 thank you clayton hotel düsseldorf for making mine and my boyos stay magical and comfortable ✨️
Service still has a lot of room for improvement. Check-in experience was sub-par, the reception was borderline rude.
Bar / lounge restaurant also left a lot to be desired. One night our order was completely forgotten, the next day we had to return the meal as the food was so salty it was inedible, like eating salt with a spoon. They were kind enough to replace the meal, but were rather slow. Hope they figure this out because it really is a great hotel overall!
The beds aren't soft, the pillows overly so.
There is ample light and sockets.
The bathroom is nice and spacious, the shower border is incredibly high and from room to room the anti slip decals in the bathtub vary tremendously in size.
