Ringberg Hotel

Good location great view, nice staff, but considering the sorry state of the sunken mattresses, flat pillows, and small size of the rooms, it is really overpriced. Wifi did not work at all during our stay. Breakfast was just average, and buffet dinner was really overpriced at 29€ considering the really low quality of food on offer. Charging for one of the 300-spaces parking in open air, that was mostly empty was a bit petty. Yet, we appreciated the interesting design dating back to the 1970s GDR, and the fact the hotel is dog friendly. It just does not deserve 4 stars, and these high prices.

The staff is very unfriendly and they are totally overburdened by large groups. We had to give our meal order a week in advance and still we had to wait almost 40 minutes after the planned time for our food! The staff didnt apologize in any way and in fact was very rude about all of it. The food portions were really small for the price. The rooms are quite small, the WiFi had very bad reception. No sockets at the bedside. I will definitly not recommend this hotel if I am asked about it.

We stayed there recently as part of a large car club. There was enough parking for the 100 cars which we had, albeit it being outdoors ( to the chagrin of a few, who would rather have preferred parking their precious classic cars in a garage), you cannot please everybody. At first glance the hotel looked impressive from the outside, but when walking in it looked rather dated - East German style. When we checked in, we were just handed the keys and not told about the times of breakfast or any further information ( we had a hall booked for the weekend where we would be having our meals).
The rooms are basic, the pillows are not pillows, I wouldn't have even given them to my dogs. Luckily I traveled with my own pillow, but my poor partner had to go down to the lobby and ask for 2 extra pillows; which were of the same quality; to be able to at least rest his head comfortably in bed.
In the evenings when sitting downstairs in the lobby, waiting to get into the hall, we tried ordering drinks, which was a hit and miss at times. As we couldn't order at the bar, instead had to wait for a person to come to the table, take the order. Often times it took them 20 mins to get to a table, and even when ordering the drinks often times arrived warm ( especially in my case as I cannot drink alcohol at the moment so had to stick to soft drinks) or they never arrived at all. There were some staff which were friendly, but the overall majority were rude.
The labeling of food for the buffet dinner, could have been better. Especially the ingredients. I am a native German speaker, so had to translate the names of the dishes and often was asked what the ingredients were, especially when it came to mushrooms or the soups. Also as I am currently pregnant, I was not going to put food into my mouth, unless I knew what ingredients there were, as there are specific foods which I need to steer clear of. As well as the cross-contamination of the utensils when handling the food, was a big no-no. The spoon for the chicken was used for the asparagus interchangeably. Perhaps this was the fault of the guests, but perhaps the hotel staff should have had a more vigilant eye on the buffet table, so that this wouldn't happen. One evening, all I could eat was a Brötchen and Milchreis ( advertised as a desert), as there was just too much doubt cast on the food.
Our tv in the hotel room did not work, it was mentioned to the staff, but I knew this would not get fixed. Wi-fi patchy.
