I am updating after two days checking out from the hotel. My left ear got painful infection from the spa and I needed to visit ENT emergency!!
We booked the Extra Viking package for two nights and three days. Unfortunately, aside from the staff at the treatment reception, the rest of the staff were unfriendly and sometimes even disrespectful. They seemed to treat Estonian guests much better. Despite being a large and well-known hotel, the English proficiency of most staff ranged from nonexistent to barely adequate. However, the treatment reception staff were friendly and helpful. Even when I missed a massage appointment, they assisted me in booking another session.
The accommodations were disappointing. There was no air conditioning in the rooms, so we had to keep the window open at night, which led to mosquito bites and a lot of noise from outside. When we complained about the situation, their solution was to provide a fan, which, of course, made noise as well. The daily room cleaning was minimal—just cleaning the toilet and placing some towels on the table, and that was it.
The dining experience was one of the few highlights. The breakfast and dinners were good, with a decent variety of options served buffet-style.
We selected four different treatments during our stay: a massage, an almond oil bath, a salt chamber session, and a foot wellness treatment. The 40-minute massage was really good, and the foot wellness treatment was also satisfying. However, the almond oil bath was underwhelming—just a 15-minute whirlpool bath with a small amount of almond oil. The salt chamber session involved sitting and lying down while inhaling salt-infused air. It was interesting, but nothing extraordinary.
The spa facilities were fairly large, featuring various dry saunas set at different temperatures—100°C, 90°C, and 85°C. The 100°C sauna was located on the roof, where you could also find some outdoor beds to relax on; however, these were the only areas for lying down, as the indoor area lacked such facilities. Unfortunately, the pool water had so much chlorine that each time I entered, my eyes started hurting, and my skin still smelled of chlorine even after multiple washes. There were two steam saunas—one with salt peeling and another with a fragrance. Additionally, there was an interesting snow room available to cool off after each sauna session.
Overall, the only reason I’m giving this experience two stars is due to the interesting spa area, the good treatment team, and the decent food. However, the crowded weekend and the numerous other issues we encountered made the experience far from enjoyable. If you plan to visit, I recommend avoiding weekends.
Update: I made a mistake, they did not even clean the toilet my partner said. They just provided some clean towel as room service. Thats it!!!
The staff doesn't know very good english, unfortunately. We payed in person for the massages on the same morning, and asked if the sauna and spa area is included. The woman told us yes - but later when we went for the massages (which are separate from the spa), we realised we had to pay if we wanted to use the spa. It's 14€ on a regular day and 22€ for 3 hours on a weekend/holiday.
The massages themselves were quite nice - in a very basic and medical room, with some noise from the street. The massage was decent, and we could choose whether we wanted a soft or a strong massage.
The hotel’s spa facilities were impressive, featuring a variety of saunas and other amenities that contributed to a relaxing stay. The cleanliness of the hotel was commendable, ensuring a comfortable environment throughout our visit.
However, I must note that the breakfast offerings left room for improvement. The selection was somewhat limited and did not meet the overall standard set by the rest of the hotel’s amenities.
Overall, Viking Spa Hotel is a great place to stay, particularly for families and those looking to enjoy nearby recreational activities. With a few enhancements to their breakfast service, it would be an even better experience.
We spoke clear English but seems that the people here cannot even understand that. How about teaching some proper customer service skills for your personnel first before taking of peoples money with bad service and misinformation
I ordered a room with one large bed, but in the end I received two separate ones, which were pushed together (the staff said that all rooms have same!), as a result, the hole between the beds did not allow me to sleep properly...
The rooms are poorly cleaned, there is dust on all surfaces...
The spa is heavily disinfected with bleach, which results in dry skin and rashes.
