Suitable for a short beach holiday, but that's about it.

I booked this hotel as a solo traveler for 4 nights. Upon arrival, I was informed that my room would be in the second building. Fortunately, this building is connected by two elevators, making it easily accessible. The room was a bit small, but perfectly adequate for a beach holiday. The furniture looked a bit dated, and the wallpaper was peeling in some places. There was no storage space for clothes, only a hanging rail. Both curtains on the windows were blackout curtains, which I found very inconvenient. I either had to leave the curtains completely open for more natural light, risking being seen from outside, or keep them closed and had to switch on the light.

I had booked half board. Breakfast was perfectly adequate for me, but the dinner buffet seemed very meager with limited selection, often lukewarm to cold dishes, and some items still partially frozen. The buffet normally costs 24 Euros, which I found to be very poor value for money. Furthermore, at each meal, there was always only one staff member tasked with restocking the buffet, serving guests, and other duties. It frequently happened that I asked for water and only received it when I was already halfway through my meal (which isn't surprising when one person has to attend to all guests). The same person was apparently also in charge of the bar, which seemed completely deserted every evening.

Cleanliness: The mattress and duvet cover were stained. On three consecutive days, I received fresh hand and bath towels that were also stained. Additionally, the plates and cups were very often dirty or poorly washed. Staff: They seemed friendly and were very open to my complaint regarding the cleanliness.

Conclusion: For me, the stay was okay, as I spent most of my time outside the hotel anyway. However, I would not recommend this hotel, and I will not be returning.

A good stay overall, the location is great and has the metro station just 10 minutes away and is just in front of the beach, the breakfast was pretty good, towels were changed every day and the bed was made which is nice to come after a long day.

Some improvements I can suggest is to install ventilation in the bathroom, the water bottle we found in the mini bar had the cap already open so we thought it’s been open and maybe the water was from the tap so we haven’t touched it, we also didn’t knew about the city tax and was a surprise, also when we asked to change for a front view room the receptionist said yes at first, he then made a pause and asked for money although he said there was a similar room available, I was a bit disappointed of that, it was decent overall, personally I will not come back but thanks for having us.

When my wife and I were on our honeymoon in August we booked the sea view room but the service we received from Alberto was unacceptable. He accused my wife of not speaking Spanish correctly when she is a Cuban American and when we attempted to eat breakfast we were told that we needed a reservation. Most hotels charge incidentals to the room so we asked the host to charge the breakfast to the room because we paid for the most expensive room, we can definitely afford breakfast. The host still refused and then told us to speak to the manager. The manager refused to charge it to the room and questioned if we had been staying in the room the entire stay. We had. It was only one night. I was completely taken aback when they also wouldn’t let us check out towels to go to the beach. Why you ask? Because we didn’t have a towel deposit ticket. So normal customer service is to help the customer get set up and actually take the blame and get us fixed but the hotel took an adversarial tone with us, I think because we are Americans. Alberto refused to cooperate and made disparaging remarks towards my wife about her Spanish speaking and questioning our stay and acting like they couldn’t help us. I was extremely upset with Alberto and will be telling everyone I know to never go to Hotel maritim in Barcelona. It’s not worth being treated poorly for the meager breakfast and having to provide “papers” just to borrow a towel. Alberto I hope you learn how to treat hotel guests because apparently you didn’t that day.

This is the first review I have ever written before my stay at the hotel was over. (Review 1 of 2)

I was worried by some of the reviews I read before coming. The Agency that booked my reservation ended up taking my money without making the reservation. I only found this out when I called the hotel directly the day before my check-in day.
The staff at the desk were very friendly and helpful. They spoke to me over the phone from another country, and worked hard to make sure the confusion with the travel agency was resolved before my arrival.
We arrived several hours earlier then check-in started, however the hotel staff offered to put our bags in a secure room while I took my daughter to the beach.
We booked a standard room, but since it was at a a higher level, we had a beautiful view of the ocean.
The restaurant/bar Staff have also been very friendly/helpful.
Since our arrival everything has been better than expected, however we will see if things stay this great before our departure. So far, So Great !

The first impression was bad, honestly. I came for a conference and made a reservation for five days, arriving on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring the reservation card, so I had to use my debit card, but there wasn’t enough money in the account. I asked for several minutes to transfer funds from my savings account, but since it was Saturday, the transfer didn’t work.

I asked the receptionist if I could check in for the first night, as I had paid for one day, and then pay the rest once I received the transferred money, likely by the next day. They said no, as the manager wasn’t available, and they couldn’t make any decisions without them. I then asked if I could modify my reservation to three days until Monday, when the transfer would go through and I could pay for the remaining days. Again, they said no. They insisted that the check-in had to be for the full five days since the reservation was made for the conference. They explained that, since it was Saturday, neither the manager nor the conference group was available, so they couldn’t do anything and apologized.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. I almost had to spend the night outside. Luckily, I remembered I had some cash, so I paid using a combination of cash and card. I was disappointed that they seemed to only follow strict rules and couldn’t help or make any adjustments.

To add to the disappointment, the internet in the room was terrible with only a weak signal, and the shower gel bottle was empty.

Expectations vs. Reality: A Three-Star Experience in a Four-Star Hotel

For future guests: the pros and cons

Pros:

Location — This is the hotel’s main trump card. Just a 3-minute walk to the beach, and you’re already feeling the sand beneath your feet. The quiet neighborhood is a gem for those who appreciate peace. Not a sound from passing cars, just tranquility.

Amenities. The room came with a small safe for storing valuables — it’s nice when such details are considered. And the two bottles of water upon arrival? A thoughtful gesture, but sadly, that was the only sign of care throughout the stay.

Price. The room rate didn’t break the bank, if you don’t count the unexpected tax that wasn’t mentioned upfront. This unpleasant surprise slightly tarnished the experience.

Cons:

Room size. When booking a double room, I naturally expected space and comfort. What did I get? A tiny 12-square-meter room and a 190x140 cm bed for two. We slept like two yoga practitioners, trying not to bump into each other.

Interior design. The designer must have been in a creative mood, otherwise, how else can you explain the TV being angled towards the desk instead of the bed? One chair and a tiny table hardly make for a cozy tea or dinner in the room. The bathroom had its own "adventures": opening the door required some force, or you risked breaking a nail.

Breakfast. If you enjoy variety, you won’t find it here. By the third day, I was already thinking about skipping breakfast. Every morning it’s the same thing — it quickly becomes monotonous.

Housekeeping. Housekeeping seemed to consist only of towel replacement and bed-making. The tea that ran out on the second day was never replenished.

These minor issues aren’t critical on their own, but together they create an overall impression that, unfortunately, leaves much to be desired.
