The hotel is a bit secluded, and getting there from the airport costs around 1,000 baht. The hotel’s own taxi service is slightly pricey at 700 baht, but it’s comfortable and luxurious.

The staff are absolutely exceptional — 10/10 for service and friendliness. When we had an early day trip and were going to miss our prepaid breakfast, they surprised us by preparing breakfast sandwiches and fruit boxes that perfectly matched our dietary preferences, without us even asking. That level of care really stood out.

The property itself is beautiful and impeccably clean. However, the hotel could benefit from some investment in updated technology and guest orientation — a simple property map would make a big difference. When I explored it on my own, I was amazed at how stunning the surroundings were. The presence of peacocks adds a charming, natural touch.

The sound of the nearby river is incredible — it’s like natural white noise that helps you fall asleep easily and wake up feeling calm and refreshed.

The only area for improvement would be the kitchen — the food options could be more varied. Otherwise, it’s a wonderful stay and excellent value for money

Lovely waterfall but the whole place is very run down.Room was damp and food below average. It is very overpriced for what it is.

Have you ever been traveling and stumbled upon a spot so magical that you catch yourself thinking, “Why can’t I just stay right here for the night instead of rushing off?” That was me in Chiang Mai a few days ago. I was on a group tour, stopped at a couple of waterfalls, and found myself daydreaming about checking out of life for a while. Just sitting by the water, meditating, writing, reflecting, relaxing. I remember thinking, why doesn’t someone build a hotel next to waterfalls so I can stay immersed in this beauty. Well, I finally found the place that actually did it. Sukantara Resort is built around stunning waterfalls in the jungle about an hour north of Chiang Mai. My drive from the center of town was an easy 52 minutes. Let me tell you, the pictures do not even come close. The setting feels like something straight out of a movie. Rich green jungle wrapping around the entire property, the waterfall cascading right through the resort, and rooms positioned so you can fall asleep to the sound of nature showing off. My stay was incredibly relaxing. The rooms are set up perfectly with everything you need. If you are searching for that perfect escape to clear your mind, meditate, write, reflect, and reconnect with nature, this is absolutely the place. I truly felt like I stepped out of life and into a little pocket of peace. There are peacocks casually wandering around and paying you little visits. There is a pool if you want to cool down. The food is fantastic. Breakfast is included. The resort is family owned and operated, and I have to give a special shoutout to Dolly who is one of the family members. She is warm, engaging, and genuinely appreciative. They really understand hospitality here in the best way. If you want a slice of jungle paradise built around a real waterfall, Sukantara Resort delivers. I already wish I had stayed longer.

I stayed one night at Sukantara with my friend and was truly impressed.

The experience felt magical — the resort is surrounded by stunning scenery, with a natural waterfall right at your doorstep. Our room was cozy and blended beautifully with the environment. Relaxing on the balcony while soaking in the sights and sounds of nature was a highlight.

The staff were kind and welcoming with excellent service. A perfect getaway for anyone seeking peace and natural beauty in Chiang Mai!

This place was just stunning. A dream. It is situated pretty much in the middle of the jungle; the moment you get out of the car you are greeted by a deafening amount of jungle sounds. The place embraces this jungle feeling, when you walk through it you can't help but feel like you arrived in paradise. The garden are gorgeous and full of beautiful exotic plants.

The place is built along a river/waterfall and has a stunning view on this water. Nothing is better than having dinner on their patio and enjoying the view. There are at least 10 peacocks walking around, and they are super funny and interesting to watch. We could see them go about their day and perform their mating displays, which was so much fun to experience.

They have some great chefs and cook fantastic tom ka kai and phad thai. We also had the luck to meet the owners, and had fantastic conversations with the owners husband. What a fantastic heartwarming people. The couple that works there is also super kind and helpful. When we needed something, they were keen to help out.

One advice I have to give people is to rent a car. This place is far away from the city, so getting a taxi is hard.

The rooms were decent, aside from some ants and our struggles to get the airco to the right temperature.

Had a terrible time with managing booking tthey need to rid of the person or company that deal with their online bookings.
The actual place once we got there is stunning and staff are lovely although not much English.
The food is very good and we enjoyed our time there. It’s a real shame I had such a negative start.
Booked and paid in full months before. Booked two rooms for 5 one of which is only a child on Booking.com clearly said all 5 included hotel wanted more for extra bed.
We decided to get married while away so enquired about doing this while away. Got a reply saying not possible as a wedding is many man hours of work and we would need to book all the rooms and it would be very disruptive for other guests. The response was rude and upsetting as we in total would have been just the 5 still.
For this reason we arranged to get married while on Koh Samui but first you have to visit the Embassy in Bangkok. You can only do this on. Tuesday or Thursday we we went to book for the Tuesday for some reason it was closed. I asked if I could move the dates by two days and cancel 1 of the 4 days paid for and use the money to pay against food. I sent numerous messages all ignored called time after time no English . Booking.com tried and got nowhere. I then said we would just stay the one night we would be there in original booking. Was told they would not allow us to stay.
In all it took me 8 weeks to get this changed and we lost over 200 for the one night.
We we got there was given the wrong rooms as we had booked two bedroom cottage with plung pool which quite a lot more in cost. No reason given why we did not get this and worse yet again no refund offered. Booking.com also refused to help.
Rooms are nice but tired stunning location and staff helpful.
The reason they would not do our wedding even more odd when we got there was only one other room occupied.
As I run a small hotel for the life of me I still do not understand our awful treatment and nor could booking.com.
It’s a lovely place but not worth all the stress and hassle we had.
Sadly one to avoid unless they change who deals with bookings and communication I even sent messages in Thai!! When they finally did agree to move the dates charged me £40 to do this.
Paid 4 nights only stayed 3
Charged for extra bed
Charged to move the dates
I feel sorry for the staff at the hotel with the admin team they have they’ve got no chance.

We enjoyed a wonderful 5 nights here recently. The resort is about 40-45 mins outside of Chiang Mai, up in the mountains near Mae Rim and in a beautiful setting next to a small river with waterfall cascades (hence the name). The property seems to be family-run and all of the staff were really welcoming, kind and attentive.
Our room, villa 1, was very comfortable with air conditioning and all of the amenities you need. The bed was a little hard, but large and comfortable enough. The shower was nicely hot and there was a small bathtub too. Each morning we were greeted by the calls of the resident flock of peafowl - and watching them each day was an absolute joy! Four beautiful males, including one fully white peacock, and a group of youngsters. They were very funny to watch.
There was a small pool - and that was warm enough to swim in.
We ate breakfast there each day - plenty filling and always served with a smile.
We also chose numerous lunches and dinners. The pad Thai is highly recommended (my husband ate this here times!). The food was not too expensive.
Our biggest expense was in taxis.
For anyone looking for a quiet getaway in serene surroundings (though be aware of the noise of the waterfalls!), with very welcoming hosts, I can highly recommend Sukantara.
