Tulia Zanzibar Unique Beach Resort

This is a beautiful property with incredible staff on Zanzibar. The attention paid to the lush gardens and incredible food is so appreciated. We stayed in a partial ocean view bungalow. I would say for the partial view this isn’t worth it- either splurge for an oceanfront bungalow or take a bungalow with garden view and save your money. The rooms are also getting a little run down as this property is over 10 years old but the grounds and staff more than make up for this. You can tell this property is loved by its owners and staff. We learned while there that this hotel is owned by a Chech family who treat their staff really well- it’s hard to find a place in Zanzibar that is not foreign-owned so knowing the staff love working there made me feel better about this. The beach out front of the resort is non-existent at high tide and too rocky at low tide but we did see people going into the ocean. They provide rock shoes for your comfort which is a nice touch. The resort to the right of the property has a beach that you can get to. They also provide Kayaks and paddle boards for guest use and the staff bring them down to the water for you. Lastly, I highly recommend the Tour of Stone Town the resort will arrange for you. Worth the hour drive to and from the property.

“Tulia” means “relax” in Swahili, and the resort truly lives up to its name. From the moment we arrived, we were embraced by a sense of peace, serenity, and genuine warmth. The setting is tranquil and beautiful, but what truly makes Tulia unforgettable is its incredible team. A heartfelt thank you to Elias, the Resort Manager, who went above and beyond to make our stay special—personally arranging premium wines and drinks to suit our preferences. Gaston, the bartender, amazed us with his creativity, crafting cocktails that were both delicious and beautifully presented. Zamda, our lovely waitress, was always smiling and brought so much warmth and kindness, especially with our children. Adela was incredibly accommodating and ensured our reservation changes were handled smoothly and effortlessly. The Head Chef deserves a special mention as well—every meal was a delightful culinary experience. And finally, kudos to Lucas, the General Manager, for assembling such a dedicated, thoughtful, and genuinely caring team. Tulia is not just a resort—it’s an experience, and one we’ll cherish for a long time. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, personalized service, and true hospitality.

Tulia Zanzibar is pure magic! From the moment you arrive, you feel transported to a peaceful paradise. The lush gardens, ocean views, and elegant design create a setting that’s both luxurious and deeply relaxing. Every detail is handled with care—from the personalized service to the incredible meals made with fresh, local ingredients. The swings over the pool, the spa, the private beach… it all adds to the charm. It’s a place that invites you to disconnect and truly enjoy the moment. One of the most special stays I’ve ever had!

The entire tulia staff was amazing. Rooms are very clean. Food is amazing. Michelle was amazing from beginning to the end. Entire experience was amazing. We will definitely be back again.

It's hard to think about Tulia and write a review about a resort. Yes, it is a resort, but more importantly, it is a family. A family with a 5 Star Chef, Guest Relations Manager, and the most talented Care Staff I have ever met... Waiters, Housekeepers, Gardeners, Maasai etc... Everyone makes you feel like you are home. Villas are beautiful (they get Netflix!), food is great (lots of choices),.grounds are a vision, and graciousness is unmatched. Like I said, hard to put into words, but Tulia is something special.

This place is a little piece of paradise. Set in stunning tropical gardens, Tulia has been designed in harmony with nature and the gardens are all well well maintained. you really feel a real sense of place and serenity here. In addition to the beautiful gardens, there is also a farm where a whole host of vegetables, herbs and fruit are grown and wherever possible are used in the kitchen. There are also chickens and ducks and so the eggs are always fresh. The villas are all beautiful and spacious and wherever possible, built with local materials. The pool area is stunning and been very carefully designed in harmony with its surroundings. It leads onto the lovely white sand beach and ocean. The beach feels very private and unlike other parts of Zanzibar, there are no beach boys to hassle you. The food was fabulous and of a high standard, all beautifully presented and it varied every evening. The quality of food was excellent and carefully sourced. Even the fish is bought directly from the fisherman as opposed to the market. Also, they provide different entertainment every evening including African live music, acrobatic dancers Masai Mara dancing, & BBQ - all of which, was very enjoyable. The spa treatments were excellent and definitely worth trying. For me, the heart of Tulia are the staff. They ooze warmth, happiness and seem to love their work. Always a smile and nothing is never a problem. Special mention has to go to the lovely Michaelle - one of the Guest Services Team. Also, Jonas, Adela, John, Lukas. Elias, Emmanuel . Tulia is special and certainly exceeded my expectations!

Top notch hospitality, customer service. Every single stuff pays attention to you and are very friendly . Great food and wide variety of drinks. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. This is really a place where time stops and you can just relax .

The room is very large, beautifully decorated, fully equipped with red wine, snacks, drinks, beer, and very unique decoration. Independent beach, professional and meticulous service, delicious food and wine, exquisite products. A very memorable stay. The most important thing is that all vegetables and eggs are from the farm in the hotel yard. The hotel has a total of 17 rooms, a team of nearly 150 people, and a one-to-one hotel manager service. It really feels like home. When you leave the hotel, you will be given exquisite preparations. I strongly recommend friends who choose Sangdao to experience Tulia

The characteristics of this hotel are comfortable rooms and all-inclusive catering that focuses on exquisite originality. However, there are not many limited options for each meal.
