Moonshine Uroa Boutique Hotel in Uroa

Had booked to stay for 3 nights but left early. The hotel feels unloved and rundown with no one in charge. Bathrooms are dreadful, ancient & dark. Service in the restaurant for breakfast & lunch was painfully slow. Air Con in our room didn’t work properly despite reporting to reception on 3 occasions resulting in a sweltering room ( the fan wasn’t enough to cool it). We eventually ‘spoke with our feet’ and moved elsewhere as we couldn’t bear to spend another night here. Rates were cheap….I now know why!

This could be such a great hotel but it isn’t. We have left a day early as just couldn’t sleep with no air conditioning despite complaining three times. No room safe, no fridge and bathrooms pretty disgusting. The whole place needs investment and could be fantastic as great location and nice laid back atmosphere. Restaurant terrible too go next door to Avo. Seem to be plenty of staff but not being managed and the owner doesn’t seem too interested. We have been beside the pool for three days looking at an empty beer crate and dirty ashtray for the same length of time. Such a shame but we won’t be back. It really is a case of you get what you pay for and hence it is so cheap.

Nice beach and vibe at the hotel, but absolutely nothing works here as others has also reviewed. We booked three nights but left after one. We had no electricity, no water/ just a bucket, no service and just stress trying to get them to do anything at all. We did not pay for this terrible experience, only food, just refused.

Do not stay there! The manager, an Italian guy Danilo, is totally irresponsible! We were a group of friends and within the first day of stay 50 euro disappeared from one of our backpacks in the room. It later turned out that the door lock had been damaged and it was easy to enter the room. The worst was to come though: on the checkout we left our luggage at the reception at midday to take a two-hour walk only to come back and realize one of the backpacks – with a passport inside! – got stolen. Long story short: the security cameras which where there turned out not to be working, we had to go to the police and then to Dar es to the embassy for a new passport, on the way to which we learned – after two days – the backpack was found and supposedly was taken by mistake by a guests. However, Danilo failed to explain how on earth a guest did not realize for two nights he had mistaken a backpack – something that one uses pretty often. Moreover, he made us wait over two hours in Stone Town for the backpack, although we agreed an appointment in advance and it is less than an hour drive. On top of that, Danilo seemed to claim we were the problem, although it was our stuff that was stolen in a place kept by him. Eventually, we got the backpack just hours before our flight back home – needless to say the last days of holidays were a mess. Overall, the irresponsible attitude and ignorance of this guy makes us come back never again, which is a pity, cos the place is otherwise cosy (although in not a vibrant area), right on the beach, and the Tanzanian girl at the reception was friendly.
