Michamvi Sunset Bay

We really loved our visit to Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort. Shirley was a fantastic host. The venue is beautiful. If you would like to disconnect for a while its a great place in Zanzibar. The rooms have no Television and so it was easy to just relax. The staff were amazing. The chef was just great. Every meal was delicious and he adjusted the meals each day to suite us especially considering we are vegetarian and also I have allergies. The sunsets are amazing and the walks on the beach were just something else. We were there off season so it was very quiet. Will definitely visit again.

Paradise on earth. It's difficult to describe otherwise.
My wife and I have been in Michamvi 3 times for 7 to 10 days each time.
This could be my favorite place in the world.
Location is just amazing. Service is fantastic. Food is great.
Last time we visited the whole hotel had been totaly refurbished. So if it was great, now it's outstanding!
We'll probably give it another go soon!

Quiet resort located right on the beach. The service is excellent, with extremely friendly staff.
The food was superb and dinner was served at a different location each night, including on the beach with a bonfire.
The breakfast area overlooks the ocean, and though options are somewhat limited, the food is still great.
The beach is clean and the area is away from much activity, so ideal for anyone looking for some peace and quiet.
The sunset is Gorgeous!!

Resort review
We enjoyed our time here. It’s calm, a nice view, nice people, and a powder like beach. We always got a sun-bed to relax in. In between dips in the ocean, we spent most our time reading.

Be aware that the resort is currently not close to much else other than the beach. You’ll need to get a cab to go to another part of town or to another beach. While we were here (summer 2023) there was also a few construction jobs going on. It limited our ability (and perhaps will) to explore the surroundings.

The rooms were tidied up twice a day, and fresh towels were always available. The resort also offers their guests books, games, and equipment for other ocean activities such as canoeing. Free to use, but perhaps not always in mint condition.

It’s a great place if you just want to relax, sip on a drink by the ocean and eat good food. If that sounds like your type of vacation, you’ve found a great place.

Great little hotel right on the beach, very friendly staff, nice clean rooms facing out to their tropical gardens and blue sea. Breakfast and dinner is nice. The atmosphere is amazing which probably reflect a very good management team. The only thing to be aware of is that the tide in Michamvi Bay means that the sea is not accessible parts of the day and it can be a bit "untidy" as lots of debris wash up in the otherwise white sand. The WiFi cover was my biggest problem though, it's very patchy and due to their setup (other places on the island was ok).

The hotel is well maintained and they do there very best to enjoy the stay. However, due to it's very high price the expectations are high as well. Unfortunately, the beach was full of algae due to a heavy storm some days before. Therefore, we were pretty disappointed and we were asking our self if it's worth the money paid. We've been there mid December 2017.

We had an excellent experience at Michamvi. Everyone was incredibly helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. The resort is beautiful and there are plenty of great activities to keep you busy. If you want to stay in and hang out by the pool and beach, that's great too. We'll definitely be going back to Michamvi.

Wonderful! Its a perfect paradise on Sansibar and everything is in partnership with the local village: fruit, fish and corn is supplied by the Michamvi Village as well as 30% of the staff is employed by the hotel. The beach is clean and the recycling is sustainable and the program supports Sansibar!

Great beach (some growth when we were there but only a slight minus), great food and small and hospitable place. The best thing is the staff though. Above and beyond is all that needs to be said!
