Reviews
Super convenient rooms with enough space for everyone.
Separate toilet/shower/washbasin - so no wasting time.
Free breakfast with the perfect view of railway.
The whole building is cool and very well located.
The hostel provides breakfast, and the seating arrangements make it easy to meet new friends. The hostel also organizes great events.
The hostel is located in a convenient location - walk 5-8 min to the subway station, and many major tourist attractions are within 20-30 minutes of walking distance. The only caution I would mention is that some homeless people reside outside the same block as the hostel, but they are no cause for concern.
This hostel is great value for exploring Chicago. I would stay here again.
However, the common area on the 2nd floor was nice, usually pretty quiet so a good place to work if needed. There were events held in the evenings so you can meet people. The free breakfast was pretty basic, but at least it was free. The industrial kitchen and free coffee on the 2nd floor was also a plus.
Front desk people were also always nice. And the location is great.
Staff were incredibly friendly and answered any questions we had.
The room was okay, standard hostel vibe with shared bathroom. Our room lacked a mirror which became a major nuisance, as sharing a bathroom with several other rooms proved hard to get in to do basic stuff like make up/hair etc. I think just having that in a room would make a world of difference.
The kitchen was also the best I've experienced in a hostel. Huge, with lots of kitchen ware, ovens, stoves etc. Even if it got busy in there, you'd still have access to what you need!
Even someone who has a few dollars to their name won't go hungry here.
They seem to be sensitive and caring to hire people with disabilities and I REALLY appreciated that. And what a good job this person actually did. Outstanding.
Please support these people with business.
The best lodging I have ever been to due to sheer compassion and consideration for all walks of life.
I wish I could stay more than 2 weeks a year and pay the price of a regular hotel sometimes just to support this business and what they do.
Humanity still exists someplace. Refreshing.
But, the room bathroom was never cleaned. I would expect the bathroom to be cleaned everyday because it is shared by the people. The common floor restroom wasn’t clean either, and there were parties in the restroom?? And the floors had a musty smell too. Also, the vibe was kinda weird.
It’s a good place to stay for a few days for cheap.
It is a bit noisy due to the AC and train but manageable with earplugs.
The only down side so far is I left my phone charger behind in my room, which was clearly marked with a mailing label with my name and address. I called HI Chicago 3 times to ask if it had been turned in. I understood the it might not have turned up the day I left. But, after calling tonight (3 days later) to ask if it had been turned in and the person answering blankly told me it hadn't been turned in after three days. After asking how that's possible and his response was "I don't know" makes me wonder if he's a representation of how things are handled when things go wrong. I know it's a stupid phone charger, but it didn't seem like the staff were that concerned, even after I told them I had a mailing label with my name on it. Staff don't seem to have common sense to show genuine concern. So, you get what you pay for, including lack of common sense in my mind.
