I never write negative reviews of the
places but this "hotel" deserves it.
Don't spend your money here, it's not a
4-star hotel at all, much less luxury. The
staff doesn't take care of you as such. I
booked for 4 nights and on my second
night the air conditioning stopped
working, their solution was to give me a
fan. I'm traveling with a 7-month-old
baby and that was their solution. The
rooms are tiny, do not have natural
lighting, the air does not cool enough
and indicate that they need cleaning,
they do not offer anything additional.
We went to the "rooftop" the food was
very bad. Anyway, nothing is as it
seems on the official pages. I paid
almost $500.00 a night and I just feel
like I'm spending money. This place is a
scam, I have visited the city many times
and there are much cheaper hotels with
excellent service and true luxury. We
are so disappointed. Its look like they make fake good reviews.

Service is 4/5 just for the smiling face of reception guys. Location is average. Not bad. But rooms are terrible. The owner of the hotel earned money for 100 years still want to earn money with same old rooms. It is not bigger than a two person coffin. It is like a little bit heightened coffin. The stairs are just one man large. If elevator is broken you cannot easily use stairs. I would never come again. I would never advise anyone. Never deserves the money it gets

We totally loved this boutique hotel. After getting delayed for hours at the airport and being absolutely exhausted at the time of our arrival to the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade for no apparent reason.
Our room was good size and clean, no funny smells. The bed was comfortable and they had different style pillows. I am a pillow person and like to have a large leg pillow, and a softer one for my head. They have an assortment of pillows on your bed to make you as comfortable as you can be. Sheets were white crisp. Very quiet room.
After walking long days in the city we looked forward to coming back to our refreshed room in the hotel.
And last, but not least, staff was professional and courteous. Thank you!

Loved our stay here. Beautiful room and hotel. Perfect location, barely any traffic noise and still in a central part of manhattan. Reception had great customer service and eager to help with any questions or issues that we had. 10/10 recommend would stay here again!

Stayed at HGU for a week over Christmas with my partner. Reception is open 24 hours which was super convenient as we arrived after midnight. There was a $100 deposit taken from our card which reduced our spending money that we weren’t expecting but was returned to our card within 48 hours of checking out. We stayed in a Deluxe Queen Room which was small but manageable considering how little we were in there. From our window we could peak a view of the Empire State Building a couple blocks away. Heating controls were in the room which was really useful coming from an Australian summer into NYC winter. Shower temp wasn’t overly hot and could be temperamental which was a negative for us as we like really warm showers. Reception staff were lovely and some were great at giving directions and helpful information (specifically the night male staff). Hotel is right next to a metro and short walking distance to attractions. Would definitely stay again.

Rubbish hotel, book the largest room and give you the smallest room, then the air conditioner is broken and there are abnormal noises, return to the hotel in the middle of the night and wait for ten minutes before someone opens the lobby door

- First I went to NYC at the worst time during UN Assembly week. The per night stay cost double +. I asked the front desk several times for late check out. First rep didn't even take down my room #. C(k)ristina finally gave me late check out to 1pm. Day of, my card key no longer worked at 12pm. I told the girl at the service desk and she lied that at noon all keys no longer work - ha - since I was able to use it multiple times at the same time. I got a call from the girl at the desk that I was late checking out at 12:30. I had to tell that same girl 5 times that Cristina gave me the late check out. Is it that really hard!!! Never again will I stay here. There are plenty of fish in the sea in NYC.

+ Subway line '6' right around the corner very convenient to get around. Union Sq Farmer's mkt was a 3/4 mile walk. Plenty of great restaurants in the area and decent vibe. The HGU is in a great location. Close to the subway, Madison Square Park (best park in NYC) and some great restaurants. The rooms are very clean and pretty good size, we stayed in a king size room. The defining quality though is the staff! They are amazing. Every single person we interacted with was genuinely well mannered and helpful. I had my phone stolen from a coffee shop and the staff was so helpful in providing me assistance with trying everything to find it. The doormen and women are beyond amazing! They should all get raises. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.

Staff is friendly and very responsive! Hotel room has a luxurious but compact feeling. They did a great job of capturing a modern taste. Not a fan of the restaurant though - I'd recommend visitors to explore around. The Ainsworth right up the road is fantastic.
