Awesome stay! You get what you pay for. Staff was super nice, I arrived super early to store my luggage and they aloud me to check in early. It's NYC, so I was barely in room, just to sleep, and shower (which they are always cleaning it seemed like). Location is awesome, central park is literally steps away, subway station a few blocks, a Starbucks at end of block. Recommend if you want to save money on hotel stay instead of the overpriced and overrated other hotels in city.

In short, you get what you pay for. I had reasonably low expectations but was presently surprised by how clean the bathrooms were at all times and how safe I felt throughout my stay. The mattress was thin, the bedding was cheap and nasty, the floors in my room were stained and the tv didn’t work. In saying that, all I needed was a place to sleep and it did the job!

An ideal haven for the solo traveler mindful of their budget. While some reviews might describe the rooms as simplistic and lacking in flair, let's consider the essence of a New York City visit. It's not about the room, but the city's vibrant pulse waiting to be explored. It offers just what you need—a comfortable place to rest and refresh after each day's adventures.

Conveniently located near Central Park, Columbus Circle, and with a subway station merely a stone's throw away, navigating the city couldn't be easier. Times Square, a mere 15-minute stroll, adds to the allure of the locale.

Check-in is a breeze, ensuring your precious time is spent experiencing the city, not waiting in queues. Opting for a double room with a private bath ensures utmost privacy and convenience, with no need to share facilities.

As someone who has returned for a third stay, I can confidently say there will indeed be a fourth. This place continues to exceed expectations.

Location is safe with a front security counter that checks each person that enters, built in room safe and also air con and heating if needed.

We stayed for two nights in a bunk bed room. Sadly, both beds had stains on the comforters and mattresses, along with some hair. The beds creaked a lot, which made it hard to get a good night's sleep. The shared men's bathroom also left much to be desired; the urinals were full and didn't flush, contributing to an overall lack of cleanliness. The air ducts were noticeably dusty and grimy as well.

During our stay, I even ended up with a bug bite on my hand.

The staff seemed quite disinterested, which, under the circumstances, is somewhat understandable.

I know this is a budget-friendly option, but a little more attention to cleanliness would make a big difference.

The only redeeming feature was its great location.

Good location, very close to Central Park. Worth your while for low budget trips to New York. Their gym is surprisingly good, which is free to use if you stay there. The rooms smelled like chlorine once we got there, so the cleaning crew did their job well, but the smell was not great at all.

Overall a good stay on a great location for a reasonable price.

I thought this might be a decent place, but not so. Worst parts were the bunks were weak and squeaky. Forget about having someone sleep on the top bunk. So much squeak and movement, you won't get any sleep. At first it looked clean, but as day turned to night the roaches came out in large numbers. We bought spray to survive the night, but they overcame the chemical. They were on the walls, the floor, the closet. It also became very noisy in the hallways. We ended up leaving in the middle of the night to find something, anything, cleaner and more comfortable. I will say the shared bathroom was at least fairly clean and warm for winter if you wanted to chance taking a shower. I thought the price was good, but after finding a Holiday Inn for $40 cheaper a night, I was mad at myself for not searching and choosing something better before booking this place. Not sure the roach problem can be solved. Otherwise, the staff was friendly.

I have stayed here several times over the past 10 years, but his may have been my last time. My daughter and I stay here because it is cheap and it is safe, plus in a great location for subways and buses. But his time it was noisy and not clean. I don't expect 5 star quality and I don't expect the bathrooms to be cleaned after each use, but I do think things that are broken should be fixed and there should be hot water in every sink and shower. Also, there needs to be signs reminding visitors about quiet hours, not slamming doors all night and early morning, wiping out sinks from shaving and hair in the shared bathrooms.... people don't seem to have any courtesy or consideration for anyone these days. I also don't expect to have to shake out my socks from just walking across the room... It just didn't seem clean this time. It is cheap, and it is safe. That's the best I can say about it.

I stayed at West Side YMCA for 4 nights to explore NYC. The location is great because it is right in the middle of Manhattan and close to Central Park. For a mandatory 10$ p/d fee they offer tons of sports facilities which are great but not necessary for many people.

The prison-like bunk bedrooms were not great. There is no sink, the room was not clean and it stank. The bathroom was awful. You share 3 toilets and 3 showers with +40 rooms. On our floor, there was also zero privacy in the showers. The shower doors were covered with frosted window film that was partially torn off. Everyone who walked in could see you showering, nice. The staff was polite and helpful.

I paid about $60 a night which seems a bit much for what you get. But then again, you're in New York.
