Absolutely gorgeous! Such attention to detail in all facets! From the warm greeting from our valet to Ally's beautiful smiling face as she welcomed us with a glass of sparkling wine. We recently stayed at the Mokara Hotel in downtown San Antonio after falling in love with the property during a previous visit to their spa — and we’re so glad we did. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, professional, and genuinely friendly. The staff throughout the hotel and spa were polite and accommodating, making our stay feel personal and relaxed.
The Mokara is a boutique-style hotel, originally built in 1901 and later remodeled into the elegant property it is today under the Omni Hotels umbrella. Because of its smaller size, it offers a peaceful, quiet atmosphere that’s hard to find in downtown hotels. It’s located right along the River Walk, with easy access via a private elevator — a huge plus for exploring the area.
The spa remains a standout. The therapists are clearly skilled professionals, and the environment is tranquil and beautifully maintained. During our stay, their whirlpool was out of service due to a leak, but we appreciated that they proactively offered a discount on services as a gesture of goodwill.
Our room was spacious, traditionally styled, and comfortable — but it could use some updates. The TVs are small by today’s standards, the furniture on the balcony felt worn, and some of the lighting switches were dated. Housekeeping was generally great and responsive to any requests, though one day it was clear the bed hadn’t been made properly, which stood out given the otherwise high level of service.
There were a few minor issues during our stay — a temporary hot water interruption due to city maintenance, phones being down which required us to hand-deliver our room service order, and the aforementioned spa repairs. None of these significantly impacted our visit, and in some cases, like with the spa discount, the staff went out of their way to make up for the inconvenience.
Room service was delicious each morning, and the staff delivering it were not only courteous but full of great local tips. And perhaps our favorite feature? The shower. For a historic building, the water pressure was phenomenal — easily the best I’ve ever experienced, and adjustable to your liking.
The only real area for improvement would be a more thorough deep clean of the rooms — especially the ceiling fans, vents, and furnishings.
All in all, Mokara is a quiet, elegant retreat right in the heart of San Antonio. Despite a few hiccups, it’s a charming property with old-world character and modern hospitality. We’ll absolutely be returning — it’s truly a hidden gem.

Mokara Hotel exceeded all our expectations! Beautifully located on the River Walk, the hotel offers luxurious, spotless rooms and an unbeatable atmosphere.
The staff made our stay unforgettable. Kim Huynh, the Food and Beverage Manager, was incredibly attentive, checking on us at the rooftop pool and restaurant. She even gave me a signed birthday card from her and the team—such a thoughtful surprise!
At checkout, when we had car trouble, the General Manager Mickey personally helped jump-start our car, walking several blocks to assist us. This level of hospitality is rare and appreciated.

This is a really great hidden gem in a sea of hotels on the riverwalk. The rooftop pool is amazing! Our kids enjoyed swimming and we enjoyed a full bar and resort style loungers complete with cool towels and umbrellas. Asia at the pool was so nice and she made some tasty craft cocktails! Edward, valet, was very welcoming and made our arrival and exit a breeze! We ate breakfast in the river level restaurant and it was very good. The views at breakfast were great because we were right on the river but tucked away under trees so it was still not overly hot.

It was located downtown, where it felt truly alive. There is a lot of buzz. Great atmosphere and the staff very nice, friendly and super helpful. Love visiting San Antonio because it's full of history and, of course. Mokara Hotel does not disappoint. With its own great history, location, and beauty, it made my stay all the worthwhile.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon, and it's was absolutely fantastic! It's right on the Riverwalk, so all the restaurants and shops were in walking distance. The Valet staff and the front desk staff was very helpful and amazing! Our last night we dined at the Ostra and our server Peter was absolutely fantastic and made our honeymoon date feel very special. The Spa was amazing as well. Will definitely be staying here again.

The actual standard of the hotel falls short of its appearance. The quality of the bed linen is quite disappointing, and the bed itself is very uncomfortable. Those accustomed to staying in luxury hotels may find certain aspects underwhelming. Additionally, the cleanliness of the restaurant leaves much to be desired.
