San Francisco, 1500 Van Ness Avenue 🧭 Map
Great hotel and service, was impressed from start to finish. We were given two adjoining rooms after pre requesting and were surprised to be given rooms on a high floor with a fantastic view of San Francisco. Rooms were clean, tidy and well appointed. Service was with a smile and all the staff were helpful and friendly.
My only gripe was that dinner choices were pretty bad and limited but there are...
Great hotel! Went here back in March of 2024, and it was one of the best hotels I've been to so far. The hotel was fairly big and the views from the rooms were so beautiful! They also had a store at the lobby with a variety of items to buy. I would definitely come back to this hotel when I go back to San Francisco with my family. Overall, this hotel was very great!! 👍🔥🔥💯💯💯
We stayed here for 2 nights. Room was spacious and clean. We were on a higher floor and had a beautiful view of the city. Front desk were friendly. We had a problem with our parking ticket to exit and they promptly helped us to resolve the issue.
It’s a great location with many restaurants within a short walk and a cable car stop just around the corner. We will stay here again.
Excellent service, location, and view. I liked having a workout area. Water refill station. Pool nice . Are rental car felt safe in the parking garage. It was easy to get in and out with ticket. Staff very friendly towards all guests. Elevators very secure.
For where the hotel is situated there is not much bad to say. Your right off a cable car stop, a whole foods, and a Starbucks. So if your a business traveler it has the necessity in a quick walk. Best thing is the beds are firm and provide a solid night sleep. Staff was nice and I had no issues. Rooms were clean. A great stay.
I have been coming to this particular Holiday Inn since 1998. It has always and yes nearly 24 years after my first stay it has been the best value for the dollar visit in SF. The views are more breath taking the higher up the hotel you stay. I love this place. Aweesome staff, the new layout is more sophisticated and more open than it was previously. Also security is exceptional.

Hotel Whitcomb
San Francisco, 1231 Market Street 🧭 Map
He's extremely talented and sweet, and on our anniversary, he even gave us a free late check-out! The hotel was in a good place, had a large number of rooms, and had very comfortable bedding. Our concierge, particularly the person who checked us in, was fantastic. The halls were spotless and silent. I'm sure we'll come back the next time. This hotel has received a lot of positive reviews.
I have been a guest at The Whitcomb hotel since the on set of covid-19. This hotel is closed to the public so my review will not encompass services. I instead would like to address the ghost in The Whitcomb Hotel rumors.
Are there ghosts in The Whitcomb Hotel?
There are indeed Spirit Souls here in the Whitcomb Hotel. I'm certain they are everywhere in the hotel I see them regularly walking through...
We stayed here December of 2019.
The Hotel was Clean and tidy.
Staff was friendly.
The Hotel is older, and out of Date.
It’s situated in a good area, for tourist. Within walking distance to union square. And on the big red bus tour rout.
The room was clean, the bathroom was very dated.
The cost was very affordable for this time of year in comparison To other Hotel in the Area.
My family truly adores this amazing place. A good place to chill with family and relax. Trust me! You will never be disappointed for sure! They strive to provide us the best service that exceeds our expectations. We need to come back because it's a good one. A five-stars satisfaction rating all the way for this hotel. Nice!
Beautiful building. Great location. Super nice staff. Fabulous pricing. I loved my little one person room. Definitely recommend Hotel Whitcomb.
Charming but outdated hotel. The style and decoration are classic, but it lacks upkeep. The walls, doors, carpets, are visibly worn out.
The rooms are not huge, but they are OK for a hotel built in a repurposed old building, in the middle of the city (reminded me of hotels I've stayed in Manhattan - if land space is limited, don't expect a room as big as a soccer field). If you are not going to spend...

BEI Hotel San Francisco
San Francisco, 50 Eighth Street 🧭 Map
The area isn't the best but the hotel itself, the service and the staff were all excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. I wish there was a channel guide in the room for the TV but if that's literally the only negative thing I can think of, that means I had a pretty good stay.
The rooms themselves were clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff was top notch, Livia, who checked me in was fantastic. But the floor I was on had a door that looked like it had been busted in, with a gaping whole covered by tape. Which made it feel unsafe. The room was also very bare. I would stay here again. Just not my first choice in the area.
Pic was my view.
Room is small but clean. My room doesn't have a desk, but it may be because it is a handicap accessible room. A/C works well. Convenient location and the staff has been great. The restaurant is not bad as well.
The rooms are nice and I was very happy with the staff and the services. The location is convenient to the sights and public transportation. The only downside is not the fault of.the hotel. The area outside the hotel is blighted with drug activity and drug zombies. The hotel has guards in the lobby and you need a room key to use the elevator so I did.not feel unsafe. Overall, I thought it was a...

Lobby is really nice and looks recently renovated. Rooms are a bit small but comfortable, and front desk staff were very friendly. Immediate surroundings were somewhat crowded by SF’s homeless, which made walking near the hotel feel unsafe at times.
The homeless immediately surrounding the hotel make it very uncomfortable to get in and out of the hotel. The staff I imagine so their best to clear as much as possible, but it's still extremely off-putting and makes it feel unsafe.
The staff is polite, but don't listen. They like to repeat themselves over and over despite providing a response the first time. This happened several times during the...

Handlery Union Square Hotel
San Francisco, 351 Geary Street 🧭 Map
The hotel is old but clean and classy. Rooms are small and beds need replacing but you can not beat the location and price. The staff were wonderfully friendly.
Well located within Union Square, the hotel is within walking distance from the BART station, bus and cable car stops. The front desk was very accommodating when we arrived at the hotel in the morning. They provided us options for rooms available before the standard 3 PM check in time. Our room wasn't available right away. We checked in after 3 PM, but we were pleasantly surprised to see a spacious...
The location of this hotel was great. We were in walking distance to everything we had planned during our visit. The staff were super friendly. If it wasn't for the lady at the front desk (cannot remember her name) we would have been completely lost. She provided us with a map and gave us directions including bus routes to everywhere we were going. Although I have zero intentions of returning to San...
A nice hotel centrally located and walking distance to the BART and trolly. Rooms are clean and some of nice city views. There's a heated swimming pool in the center of the courtyard. Fresh infused water available every morning in the lobby. Make sure to check out the Secret Art of Dr Seuss exhibit.
Travel Agent Review **** I booked for a stay in March 2018 for my brother and his family which had included my nephew's birthday. They stayed in the newly renovated rooms which are very spacious for a family of 4. Service with the front counter was exceptional. Ordered late room service to their room after their late arrival which they loved and arrived promptly.

We had 4 nights here last month. The hotel is very central for shop, trams, buses and sightseeing. We received very good service, staff could not have been more helpful and polite. Great hotel in a really central location of the San Francisco downtown area.
Rooms are modern and well designed. Even the bathrooms are really nice (with stand-up showers) and well lit.
Free hot breakfast is available every morning - although the inside seating area is small (we used to sit outside most mornings).
Parking is also advertised - the parking was full when we got there, so we had to park...
No matter what the pros and cons of this hotel might be, it is without doubt the staff that make it a wonderful experience. Michael, Genevieve, Saoirse and all the front desk staff are amazingly warm and welcoming, and an absolute breath of fresh air after a long drive and day. They are friendly, courteous and will go out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. And it's all done with a huge smile...
We spent two fantastic nights at this hotel. The room was clean and well equipped. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a super cool roof bar with nightly events. Near by the ballpark and many restaurants. We'll be back.
I took my kids on a road trip and stopped overnight in San Francisco for a Giants game. I had my disabled son and his caregiver with me and even though the parking situation wasn’t great the woman checking me in went above and beyond to help how she could. She was so thoughtful with which room she put us in. We were apparently in a room near the area where it would stay loud for a while following the...

Great room. Not far from the nearest BART station (10 minutes walk) and not a far walk from shopping district either. Staff very polite and friendly. Their king sized bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever been in.
Building and furniture is old but clean. Just basics. Only two towels initially provided. No fridge or microwave or air conditioning. Slept with the window open but the nights were cool enough. Hotel was very quiet. If you don't mind street noise you'll be fine. Not sure if I could have found better for the price but I did feel safe.

Good clean place that is pretty close to Fisherman's wharf. Not a lot of bells and whistles but would definitely recommend
Excellent value for the price. Perfect for a long weekend in SF that doesn’t break the bank. Super convenient to Cow Hollow and all of the food, as well as the tourist destinations. Highly recommend.
Great value for your money - convenient location if you need a car for your SF trip. The rooms are neat, clean. Ask for a quiet room opposite the main road. Wifi is a little sluggish, so don't count on streaming Netflix for entertainment, and their movie selection on the television is limited. So download your movie and bring a cable to hook up to the big screen!
Hotel is conveniently located right on Lombard Street. It is a short walk over to Chestnut Street where there are many delicious restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, and many other things to do. The room was very cute and clean with a very large TV. The staff was friendly and helpful. Room locked a microwave or mini fridge but that wasn't an issue on this visit. The Pickwick Hotel San Francisco
San Francisco, 85 Fifth Street 🧭 Map
Great staff and perfect location in the city. Overall, I enjoyed my stay.
Normal wear and tear on hotel rooms and halls that could be fixed, but I’d stay again.
All compliments are given to the staff (including maintenance person and front desk), very friendly and helpful.
Hotel itself is too old. There are stains on the bathtub which seem unlikely to be removed. There’s even a big hole on the curtain. Location is great though.
The only plus to this hotel is it’s location. Otherwise the staff is unfriendly, walls are paper thin, chipping paint and worn-down rooms, no working phones or thermostats.
The hotel is ok. Nothing that sets it apart from other hotels. Was fun showering and then the water just stopped running. Elevators have a mind of their own. AC in the room is just a set of knobs that do nothing. No sound isolation from the hallway. Room was nice for a SF hotel (Most SF hotel rooms are old and rough, simply how it is in an old City). Ads all over the hotel for happy hour at the bar...
The Pickwick is conveniently located one block away from the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The rates are quite reasonable compared to other hotels in a similar location, if you don't mind missing out on certain amenities. The rooms are a strange mix of modern (remodeled bathrooms, for example) and 'historic' appointments--the carpets are of poor quality throughout, paint is cracking, and both the...
The hotel was conveniently located, one block away from Market St and the iconic cable car turnaround. Although the hotel is in a self-described edgy area it is a high quality hotel. The room is NYC size (limited on space) but the quality of the materials make up for this. HVAC system works well. I was able to fit my 21 inch carry-on in the dresser drawer. There is also a closet. The pillows don't provide enough support. The public areas are very nice and the WiFi works well. Staff is efficient and...
My aunt and I stayed here last November 16-17, and we had a great time. It had less amenities than we had been used to, but that is to be expected of a lower-end Hilton hotel. Most of the photos I posted are of their free breakfast - by far my favorite part of the stay. Our concierge, CY was also very friendly and helpful. I just had to take one star away because the second night, our shower water...
Newer hotel but typical Hampton Inn property. Rooms were clean. Staff was nice. The breakfast was typical of a Hampton Inn, but really really busy! It was in the basement of the building in a very small room. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is a bit questionable at night. Fortunately they have the need to use your room key to get in the elevator and hotel after a certain time in the evening...
Everything is great except a few things: 1. Rooms are tight. Not much room, but hey, that's city living. 2. The restrooms in the lobby require a room key to open, which is good (no random bums can come in and use the restroom), also, the restrooms have a deadbolt with a sign that says LOCK FOR PRIVACY. HOWEVER, when you use the room key, it UNLOCKS THE DEADBOLT! THE DEADBOLT IS EFFECTIVELY USELESS...
Clean with modern room furnishings, good breakfast, 24/7 coffee bar, and lounge area. Very nice bathroom and comfy bed. Hotel is on the edge of a rough part of town, so be aware. About 2 blocks from the Convention Center. Room is insanely small considering the price - barely enough space for the bed and no desk. Expected more for the price. I know this is downtown SF, but dang.
Hotel was nice and clean. Breakfast was good. Quiet hotel. Lost a star due to area it is in. Rougher area of the city. Would not feel comfortable walking alone, especially at night. Dirty and unsanitary streets. Local food is delicious, but there are much safer and nicer areas to stay in.

It's ok for a few hours. Customer service was pretty good and satisfactory. They didn't have a kitchen or a kettle or mugs but reception was nice enough to give me hot water from the staff room.
The rooms are tiny and you can hear everything going On in the hall.
They do have more than basic things, which I liked, for example, toiletry, iron, etc.

It's okay. Extremely small rooms, no fans or anything for air circulation so we had to have the windows open. This made it even louder (which made it hard to sleep) then it already was with the street noise. Also very bright as the hallway lights shine through the rooms. This place sure looks different in the pictures versus how it actually is. The main lobby is nice but when you get up to your room everything is jammed in with little walking space. Our bathroom is microscopic with the door hitting the toilet and the shower set up makes water get all over the ground. But, the hotel is clean and is in a good location. Just don't plan to be living up luxury while here
I found the place had a charming and comfortable feel. Nicely themed without going overboard and while old, it is well maintained. The staff I met were friendly and seemed oddly "at home". My room (queen bed) was pretty small and definitely nothing fancy. But it was comfortable, clean and definitely serviceable.
Overall, I have put this one on my short list of places to stay when in the area
Room was ok but small, bed comfortable. Although the staff was nice, we had to wait for our room to be ready until after 4 p.m. Second day, no coffee in our room, had to contact front desk twice, an hour later they bring two coffees... really! Just enough for each of us to have one cup in the morning. Elevator is extremely small and takes a long time. I would not suggest this hotel if you would like...
The location is good. Couple blocks away from union square. The hotel is in old style but can see it just got remodel with London style. The lobby is fancy, comfortable. Room is comfort and big enough in SF. Bathroom are clean. Staffs are very poliet and helpful
Awesome location, we walked around union square and roamed around on foot freely. Loved the lobby, game, and bar area. Clean rooms, perfect for our quick trip. Beautiful hotel, awesome breakfast and comfortable dining area. Comfortable beds and cozy pillows. Easy to get to and in walking distance from Ghirardelli square and all the piers. Let us stay parked in garage after checking out until 4pm. Had to pay to use parking garage. Can get expensive, but might be worth it for the convenience. Staff was very nice as well.
Excellent hotel by Fisherman's Wharf. They offer decent complimentary breakfast, parking(for a fee), and clean rooms. No complaints overall. A great place to stay and see the city. Within walking or biking distance of fisherman's wharf, Lombard Street, Coit tower, Chinatown, and many other popular locations. They even let us bring our bikes to our rooms at night to keep them off the street.

Nice clean hotel. It's within walking distance from Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 and all its shops. I researched a couple other hotels, and this one, for the price, had a parking garage that was actually decent (and had more than ten spaces), that was easily accessible from the street. Phoenix Hotel
San Francisco, 601 Eddy Street 🧭 Map
Clean rooms, a great location, good water pressure in the shower, friendly and polite staff, super comfortable mattress and pillows.
Went to the Phoenix hotel for a happy hour at the bar on the main floor. Kitschy and fun, the decor is mostly record sleeves and the cocktails were okay. Nothing too crazy.
This place is such an oasis! You can easily forget that the city is bustling all around you as this friendly staff welcomes you with kindness and consideration. The atmosphere is authintic rock star in nature and the food is always on point. The pool is always sparkling and they keep it warm in the colder months. I’ve stayed here almost a dozen times and I’ve never had a single complaint. Good work...
Great hotel! Very clean and the attendants are very helpful and kind. It was my best choice for San Francisco! I loved here
We were looking for an affordable hotel that had a pool for our trip to San Francisco. We ended up deciding to stay at the Phoenix. This hotel definitely has some good qualities and then a few not so good.
First, the not so good. The Neighbourhood this hotel is located in is pretty sketchy. We wanted to walk to the cable car station and it was a very rough neighborhood. My husband took a walk one...
This sweet and cozy hotel is like an oasis in a kinda freaky neighborhood (Tenderloin). Cool crew which shares recommendations for nice nearby spots (Jane cafe). They serve complementary coffee and sweets (non vegan) every morning next to the heated pool outside. WiFi was very sluggish so keep that in mind, but they got nice USB charges next to the beds ?
