Hotel Whitcomb
San Francisco, 1231 Market Street 🧭 Map
Very fancy and historic. No longer runs as a Hotel though. It's now A SIP Shelter for the homeless
He's extremely talented and sweet, and on our anniversary, he even gave us a free late check-out! The hotel was in a good place, had a large number of rooms, and had very comfortable bedding. Our concierge, particularly the person who checked us in, was fantastic. The halls were spotless and silent. I'm sure we'll come back the next time. This hotel has received a lot of positive reviews.
I have been a guest at The Whitcomb hotel since the on set of covid-19. This hotel is closed to the public so my review will not encompass services. I instead would like to address the ghost in The Whitcomb Hotel rumors. Are there ghosts in The Whitcomb Hotel? There are indeed Spirit Souls here in the Whitcomb Hotel. I'm certain they are everywhere in the hotel I see them regularly walking through...
We stayed here December of 2019. The Hotel was Clean and tidy. Staff was friendly. The Hotel is older, and out of Date. It’s situated in a good area, for tourist. Within walking distance to union square. And on the big red bus tour rout. The room was clean, the bathroom was very dated. The cost was very affordable for this time of year in comparison To other Hotel in the Area.
My family truly adores this amazing place. A good place to chill with family and relax. Trust me! You will never be disappointed for sure! They strive to provide us the best service that exceeds our expectations. We need to come back because it's a good one. A five-stars satisfaction rating all the way for this hotel. Nice!
Beautiful building. Great location. Super nice staff. Fabulous pricing. I loved my little one person room. Definitely recommend Hotel Whitcomb.

The area isn't the best but the hotel itself, the service and the staff were all excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. I wish there was a channel guide in the room for the TV but if that's literally the only negative thing I can think of, that means I had a pretty good stay.
The rooms themselves were clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff was top notch, Livia, who checked me in was fantastic. But the floor I was on had a door that looked like it had been busted in, with a gaping whole covered by tape. Which made it feel unsafe. The room was also very bare. I would stay here again. Just not my first choice in the area. Pic was my view.
Room is small but clean. My room doesn't have a desk, but it may be because it is a handicap accessible room. A/C works well. Convenient location and the staff has been great. The restaurant is not bad as well.
The rooms are nice and I was very happy with the staff and the services. The location is convenient to the sights and public transportation. The only downside is not the fault of.the hotel. The area outside the hotel is blighted with drug activity and drug zombies. The hotel has guards in the lobby and you need a room key to use the elevator so I did.not feel unsafe. Overall, I thought it was a...
If anyone is looking for great deals on hotels go to HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around... Lobby is really nice and looks recently renovated. Rooms are a bit small but comfortable, and front desk staff were very friendly. Immediate surroundings were somewhat crowded by SF’s homeless, which made walking near the hotel feel unsafe at times.
The homeless immediately surrounding the hotel make it very uncomfortable to get in and out of the hotel. The staff I imagine so their best to clear as much as possible, but it's still extremely off-putting and makes it feel unsafe. The staff is polite, but don't listen. They like to repeat themselves over and over despite providing a response the first time. This happened several times during the...

the big size of the bed and the decoration of the room
About as affordable as you may find in the given area. The hotel itself has a deep history and the communal areas reflect all of that. Plenty of character in the lobby and halls! That said, the rooms show all of the age - peeling paint, creaking floorboards, etc. The furniture has all of the consistency in each room and from one room to next of multiple combined garage sales. And although the daytime...
Great hotel with very helpful and knowledgeable staff within walking distance of Union Square and very close to Japan Town. The interior design is very unique wich can both be a plus or a minus depending on your taste, I found it very nice. The WiFi worked well and we were able to stream movies with no interruptions.
The interior is decorated in a Victorian style, which was very interesting and cool to see. The parking situation requires a permit for a specific lot, but it is pretty good for San Francisco.
The Queen Ann Hotel is beautiful with a misterious feel to it. The gorgeous furniture and the amazing breakfast are the icing on the cake. You will surely think you've been transported back in time. Great experience.
This place is amazing. Built in 1889, this is a Victorian Masterpiece. It's not only beautiful to look at, it's wonderfully comfortable. The furniture, the artwork and the friendly staff make this place fun and exciting for anyone who loves history.

Not bad, it is easy to find, but the breakfast is simple and almost the same everyday
The room is OK, similar to domestic express hotels. But the environment is very good, 15 minutes walk to the beach, very comfortable for a walk. It's also 15/20 minutes walk to the lively neighborhood for dinner. I'm quite satisfied
Good location, good breakfast, parking a bit tight, water with lemon 24/7 available.
Great location, friendly staff. Rooms are roomy and clean. The windows are a bit old and not so well insulated (build up moisture), but other than that everything is good. Definitely great value for the price and amenities in such a central location. Would recommend to families and for short stays to see the city or business travel.
Good location, safe area, walking distance to Fishermans warf.
Excellent location, very suitable for families to live and play

It is home feel.. there is NO claw foot bath tub, NO control of ur heat, Love the antique furniture but doesn't match. It could use a small face lift, and could use a bell boy concierge to take luggage upstairs.
I was passing by to play Pokemon at this hotel. By playing this game here actually met new friends that had the same interest as myself. It was a great place to hang out and have conversations with people with similar interest. I don't mind coming back to this hotel again because there's a lot of wild Pokemons to catch. Thank you for reading this.
Charming boutique hotel, with good prices. Wonderful neighborhood, incredibly kind staff. The linens were rather impressive and the pillows we're equally pleasing. We were only here for a quick stay but it was rather delightful.

Not a 4 star hotel. But for the price, it was conveniently located. Rooms were clean and bigger than the one i had at the sir Francis Drake. Staff was friendly. And there is a parking garage RIGHT next door.
Enjoyed the hotel overall. Building was rather old but decently renovated, and had a certain charm to it. Everything seemed relatively clean. Nice modern lobby with plenty of seating to eat and relax. Free continental breakfast in the morning, and coffee, tea, and oatmeal are available 24/7, which is nice. One small complaint is that I was not able to get cell service in my room, and the hotel wi-fi...

My kids enjoyed their stay. So clean and the beds are so comfortable.
Our first time staying there. We will be back there again for our next trip.
No deposit required, the front desk was very friendly
Good location, affordable price in the peak seasons
Great room. Not far from the nearest BART station (10 minutes walk) and not a far walk from shopping district either. Staff very polite and friendly. Their king sized bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever been in.
Building and furniture is old but clean. Just basics. Only two towels initially provided. No fridge or microwave or air conditioning. Slept with the window open but the nights were cool enough. Hotel was very quiet. If you don't mind street noise you'll be fine. Not sure if I could have found better for the price but I did feel safe.

Hotel is close to a lot of tourist locations. They also have free shuttles that take you from the hotel to fisherman's wharf, union Square and other locations. Very convenient! You do have to pay for parking and it's a bit high, but that's San Francisco for you. Rooms were very nice and clean. They provided shower caps, soap, shampoo, hair dryer and coffee machine. Also, we got complimentary breakfast...
Very modern but also has a historic feeling to the environment of the hotel. Rooms are up to date and clean. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. Rooftop bar has a great view and free wine everyday certain hours. Free breakfast as well on the rooftop until 10am. I gave it 4 stars simply because the area is not the greatest. Highly recommended to take a taxi or ride share instead of walking. Granted...
Breakfast included with quite a few options, they also had free wine at the rooftop bar between 5 and 7 which was a really nice touch. The staff were really helpful and able to give us excellent suggestions on activities. The only negative was the area, completely surrounded by homeless people and it didn’t feel like a safe environment at all when leaving the hotel.
Pros Boutique hotel, very welcoming awesome staff. They accommodated is with our large (very well behaved) dog despite their small dog only policy. Clean comfortable room. Newly renovated Cons Limited hours on the bar, no room service. Terrible neighborhood(needles and broken glass, bums sleeping under tarps on the sidewalk right outside the property)
I had a fantastic time here. The room was clean, comfortable, and trendy. The staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to answer any questions and address any issues. Breakfast was delicious and gave me something to look forward to in the morning. The hotel is located in a central area, surrounded by trendy shops and delicious restaurants. The location in North Beach was great. I liked the non-contact check-in, key code app for the entrance and room. We stayed at Washinton Square inn last week. It was a wonderful experience. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greedted by Gavi. Great location, very easy access to everywhere. Room is okay, but it can be noisy sometimes. Breakfast is included in the price, which is great. However the choice is very limited and basic.

Well located within Union Square, the hotel is within walking distance from the BART station, bus and cable car stops. The location of this hotel was great. We were in walking distance to everything we had planned during our visit. The staff were super friendly. Great staff and perfect location in the city. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Normal wear and tear on hotel rooms and halls that could be fixed, but I’d stay again.
All compliments are given to the staff (including maintenance person and front desk), very friendly and helpful. Hotel itself is too old. There are stains on the bathtub which seem unlikely to be removed. There’s even a big hole on the curtain. Location is great though.
The only plus to this hotel is it’s location. Otherwise the staff is unfriendly, walls are paper thin, chipping paint and worn-down rooms, no working phones or thermostats.
The hotel is ok. Nothing that sets it apart from other hotels. Was fun showering and then the water just stopped running. Elevators have a mind of their own. AC in the room is just a set of knobs that do nothing. No sound isolation from the hallway. Room was nice for a SF hotel (Most SF hotel rooms are old and rough, simply how it is in an old City). Ads all over the hotel for happy hour at the bar...
The Pickwick is conveniently located one block away from the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The rates are quite reasonable compared to other hotels in a similar location, if you don't mind missing out on certain amenities. The rooms are a strange mix of modern (remodeled bathrooms, for example) and 'historic' appointments--the carpets are of poor quality throughout, paint is cracking, and both the...
The hotel was conveniently located, one block away from Market St and the iconic cable car turnaround. Great hotel in a really central location of the San Francisco downtown area. Rooms are modern and well designed. Even the bathrooms are really nice (with stand-up showers) and well lit. Parking is also advertised - the parking was full when we got there, so we had to park...
No matter what the pros and cons of this hotel might be, it is without doubt the staff that make it a wonderful experience. We spent two fantastic nights at this hotel. The room was clean and well equipped. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a super cool roof bar with nightly events. Near by the ballpark and many restaurants. We'll be back.
I took my kids on a road trip and stopped overnight in San Francisco for a Giants game. I had my disabled son and his caregiver with me and even though the parking situation wasn’t great the woman checking me in went above and beyond to help how she could. The Cp value is quite high. It has everything you need, the toilets and bathrooms are clean. It is also very close to the bus and other places.
This American retro hotel is located in a prime location, with Union Square Center just outside and a **Uncle Supermarket next to it. The sanitary facilities are average, but the price is cheap.
I do like Mosser hotel, it is very convenient, just 5 minutes walk to the Moscone Center, and outside is bus station and 1~ 2 minutes to BART . Thanks very much for arranging the check-in promptly upon my arrival, and room is very clean and comfortable. There was a private bathroom, a hairdryer, and heating. I felt safe and comfortable during the few days I stayed alone in San Francisco as a female
Great location near Powell Station. The staff was friendly and the morning coffee was great. I'd like to use this again.
The second time that we stayed here wasn’t as good as the first time- the staff had a bit of a colder attitude and the smaller room wasn’t as good. If you’re going to stay here, try and book the premium room instead as there was a big difference with the comfort compared to the smaller room

This place sure looks different in the pictures versus how it actually is. The main lobby is nice but when you get up to your room everything is jammed in with little walking space. Our bathroom is microscopic with the door hitting the toilet and the shower set up makes water get all over the ground. But, the hotel is clean and is in a good location. Just don't plan to be living up luxury while here
I found the place had a charming and comfortable feel. Nicely themed without going overboard and while old, it is well maintained. The staff I met were friendly and seemed oddly "at home". My room (queen bed) was pretty small and definitely nothing fancy. But it was comfortable, clean and definitely serviceable. Overall, I have put this one on my short list of places to stay when in the area
Room was ok but small, bed comfortable. Although the staff was nice, we had to wait for our room to be ready until after 4 p.m. Second day, no coffee in our room, had to contact front desk twice, an hour later they bring two coffees... really! Just enough for each of us to have one cup in the morning. Elevator is extremely small and takes a long time. I would not suggest this hotel if you would like...

Although the hotel is in a self-described edgy area it is a high quality hotel. The room is NYC size (limited on space) but the quality of the materials make up for this. HVAC system works well. My aunt and I stayed here last November 16-17, and we had a great time. It had less amenities than we had been used to, but that is to be expected of a lower-end Hilton hotel. I just had to take one star away because the second night, our shower water...
Newer hotel but typical Hampton Inn property. Rooms were clean. Staff was nice. The breakfast was typical of a Hampton Inn, but really really busy! It was in the basement of the building in a very small room. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is a bit questionable at night. Fortunately they have the need to use your room key to get in the elevator and hotel after a certain time in the evening...
Everything is great except a few things: 1. Rooms are tight. Not much room, but hey, that's city living. 2. The restrooms in the lobby require a room key to open, which is good (no random bums can come in and use the restroom), also, the restrooms have a deadbolt with a sign that says LOCK FOR PRIVACY. HOWEVER, when you use the room key, it UNLOCKS THE DEADBOLT! THE DEADBOLT IS EFFECTIVELY USELESS...
Clean with modern room furnishings, good breakfast, 24/7 coffee bar, and lounge area. Very nice bathroom and comfy bed. Hotel is on the edge of a rough part of town, so be aware. About 2 blocks from the Convention Center. Room is insanely small considering the price - barely enough space for the bed and no desk. Expected more for the price. I know this is downtown SF, but dang.
Hotel was nice and clean. Breakfast was good. Quiet hotel. Lost a star due to area it is in. Rougher area of the city. Would not feel comfortable walking alone, especially at night. Dirty and unsanitary streets. Local food is delicious, but there are much safer and nicer areas to stay in.

The hotel is in need of a makeover. The rooms are tired and a bit dark and drab. Staff however are great and bed quality is pretty good, if you don't mind queen beds. The breakfasts are very good and the restaurant gets good reviews (although we never tried it). There is a very well-provisioned gym with a pool on the lower ground floor.
We have stayed at the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel many times over the past 25 years. It is the best deal in San Francisco. Great value for your money - convenient location if you need a car for your SF trip. The rooms are neat, clean. Ask for a quiet room opposite the main road.
