Sage Hotel James Street, Brisbane1 / 50
9.2
Brisbane, 70 James Street 🧭 Map
This location is hard to beat, The Sage is located in the heart of James Street with excellent restaurants and bars on it's doorstep. The beds at the Sage are sooo comfortable. I also love how dark the rooms are - you are guaranteed a restful night!
Pleasantly surprised! Got upgraded to a new room on last night and wish I was the the full 3 nights. Great space, staff and location for the price
The MOST comfortable bed, pillows made of clouds, curtains that block the entire outside out (if that’s what you want) and all the amenities you could want in a studio hotel room to come back and collapse in after cutting a rug on a wedding dance floor. Didn’t want to leave my cocoon of bliss. Thanks for a great stay!
There is no restaurant on site but there are lots of eating options nearby.
Great hotel! Absolutely would recommend to anyone who's wanting a hotel in the Valley. Location is fantastic, walking distance to alot of restaurants and clubs. Our rooms were very nice, cozy and most importantly, clean! The staff are really friendly, and gave good service. Will happily stay here again in the future.
Amazing hotel in a great location. Our room was more than adequate, clean and well presented. The staff were super friendly and accommodating, parking was easy. Highly recommend this place for your next stay in or near brisbane city.

The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the balcony provided a beautiful morning coffee space
Great experience from beginning to end. Greeted with a smile, can I get your bag? How was your day? So warm and welcoming. The rooms were nice and amazing views of the city and Brisbane River. Food was good too buy a little pricey. However all in all, well worth it!
Stayed here twice for business over the past 3 months. Apart from being free because of work it is a great hotel with well trained and courteous staff. Nice bar with awesome bar tenders.
Great location. Clean rooms. Has balconies which is great ! You can sit and enjoy Brisbane’s weather. The breakfast is lower than average. So basic which might you can get from outside for 20. To contact housekeepers you need to call reception because they never answer. Very slow service. Definitely needs improvement. But in general our stay was Ok.
Stayed here for business for one night; really pleasant place with fabulous rooms and comfy interior fit out. I booked late for this hotel online with Qantas, but the checkin and service was all fabulous, getting in around 8:00pm at night. Quickly made my way up to the room and dropped my bags off. The interior fit out for the room was lovely. Bed was comfortable, showers and amenities all well...
This is truly an amazing place to stay! Everything was perfect, the staff were so welcoming and friendly, and the rooms were clean and super comfortable. It had everything you could need, nice little finishing touches too! The unbeatable location and outstanding service made this an incredible stay. I will definitely be back!! Just exceptional!

Andrew Newman and his team at Mercure Brisbane King George Square made my stay and first time in Brisbane as friendly and hospitable as possible. From valeting my car to small niggling issues with the room, Andrew was the man to the rescue! He did so without fuss and with the utmost professionalism, hospitality and most importantly care. The rooms, pool, gym and facilities are brilliant and well...
Enjoyed a couple of nights here in mid August. Unfortunately the rooftop restaurant wasn’t open. Other than that, the facilities were good (enjoyed the pool even though the weather was at the cooler end of Queensland expectations), my room was quiet and well appointed. Arrival chocolate was a nice touch. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, shops and tourism things immediately nearby.
It was ok, comfortable enough but a bit disappointing given the 280 plus price tag for the night. Staff were friendly and it's a great location but here's some of the shortfalls experienced: Bins not changed overnight, do not disturb sign still meant cleaners cleaned my door so it banged, dirty wine glasses in the room, next doors dirty roomservice dishes out the front of our room was there over ...
Relaxing, spacious and spotlessly clean Couldn't fault the Mercure during our two night visit. The staff, all the way from management, through to reception and the cleaners were courteous and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was excellent - spotlessly clean and ample supplies of all that we needed like shampoo, soap, towels, cups etc. Location is close to everything you...
Just spent 4 nights. Such a wonderful location. Front desk staff and concierge were wonderful, helpful and most obliging. Breakfast buffet at $42pp was totally overpriced for value and choices. Room service tray remained in the corridor for 2 days without collection.
Check in lounge looks classy and the hotel is in an excellent location! Apart from that, there’s really nothing to brag about. Rooms are old and tired. Bathroom is cramped and old. The hairdryer doesn’t even work (it’s those old, truly archaic ones that are stuck to the wall haha). Had to call housekeeping twice to get an actual/proper hairdryer sent up. Stay here if you just need a quick overnight...

Location is great. Easy to walk to shops and nearby restaurant. My room only had 1 side table and lamp so the lighting was a bit dark when trying to work. Also, there was no hot water on my final morning. Concierge staff were really helpful with directions to local places.
As I got in to the room, there was a many issues with maintenance. When I was booking it was showing an error for upgrading the room. I asked the reception if I can upgrade it, reception told me there is no room available. But when I jump on the website there was plenty of room available. So it wasn't good for me although I have stayed at 13th floor. It was a good experience to stay on the heights...
Great location, easy walking distance from the mall, the river and the sights of the city. Many restaurants with varied cuisines and shops in the area nearby. The hotel itself also has good restaurant options and 24 hour room service. The beds were comfortable and there were sufficient amenities available. Decent sized gym for a good workout, Overall a good experience
Thought this was a 5 star hotel but unfortunately not no communication from staff behind the desk for our enquiries no water in the rooms so after purchasing several bottles we were told they were at the desk. The guys at the concierge desk were fabulous and looked after us very well. Our used towels were left in the bath but fresh ones were left. Our friends room had a cracked sink and their door...
As per usual the rooms and service were good. For a 4-5 star hotel, I would like to see an improvement in the breakfast offered with the room. Was very average and would recommend not taling the included breakfast unless you only prefer cereals and yoghurts. Other than that very pleasant, nicely situated to the city, and facilities are good especially roof top bar, very nice.
best thing was the location! being 5star, glad I didn't pay for this stay. breakfast was very simple & standard, again glad I didn't have to pay (work paid trip). Bed was superior & super comfy, extra blanket in cupboard would have been handy.

Perfect location and great accommodation/staff
Quite annoying how there isn't any parking at the hotel. I don't like having to walk through the shopping mall with my belongings to get to the foyer, and then pay $35 for the privilege! The room was small but modern and comfortable. The bottom bed sheet didn't fit though! I was sent an email to check in online, which I did and said I would arrive before 12 noon. This was accepted and I didn't receive...
I only stayed for 1 night, checking in in the evening, then gone in the morning. No complaints. The room was clean and functional. Lots of TV channels to choose from. I didn't use the restaurant or room service so can't comment on that. I did use the bar later in the evening and found it was very nice with interesting decor.
IBIS STYLES YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN !!!!! We have just had two of the best nights that we could have possibly had. Firstly once again the view for River Fire was to die for - absolutely the best you can get. Your staff are always extremely friendly and so so obliging right from Management - Todd thank you, to the front desk staff and the restaurant staff - we love having a little catch up with...
I was there to attend a conference so my three night stay was almost perfect, I stored my bags until the room was ready on time. The room was everything I needed, clean and comfortable. The house keeping staff where great and I loved returning to a clean and made up room every night. The bed was comfy and I slept really well without traffic noise. The view from the room was superb. River/city views...
Right opposite casino, near mall. Centre of city. So convenient. And tucked away out of bustle and bustle. Good view. Very courteous and welcoming. No issues checking in or out. Cleaning staff friendly too
Good central position in the CBD. Nice size room for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable. Hotel and room were very clean. High standard. The front desk staff were very welcoming and helpful.

We are grateful to have found accommodation here on short notice as we had to be near the hospital. It was such a relief that they could take us in and be flexible with the duration of our stay due to our uncertain circumstances. The staff were very understanding, accommodating and professional. On top of that, the rooms are great, clean and complete with comfortable bedding. Thank you again.
It was an excellent experience. Danny, our concierge, was accommodating throughout our stay. We stayed for a concert held at the Princess Theater, and you could not hear a thing while in the hotel. The buffet breakfast was delightful and very well-priced. Beautiful lobby and clean, functional rooms 👌
Situated near the Mater Hospital area the hotel is well situated to walk to the city or south bank without having to drive and the headache that comes with navigating the big smoke. The family suites are great with a huge spa bath the kids will love. Breakfast buffet is a great spread with optional barrista coffee also on offer. Parking is easy and located behind so those with tall 4wd needn't worry...
Fabulous accommodation, service and atmosphere. Awesome location and easy to find. There is many eating and dining places close by as well as other services all within walking distance. The breakfast smorgasbord looked and smelt awesome, unfortunately I couldn't have any.
Great location and service was friendly. They let us drop our bags off after a early international arrival. Loved having shops and restaurants including the grocery store right there. The room felt dated and cramped. It was clean enough and the tea and coffee with biscuits and milk was a great touch. Overall it was great for 2 nights but wouldn’t stay there any longer then that.

We got married there 34 years ago and it's still a fantastic place for a wedding. We had a wonderful time Saturday night. Staff were exceptional 👌.
Have had lunch here 3 times now. Each time has been great. Went today and best yet. Had the lunch menu. Absolutely loved the Moreton bug roll. Service by Linda and Ernst was impeccable. Apparently Ernst in training but great service and so nice. Linda was fabulous and we had a wonderful lunch. BEST EVER. We are going back tomorrow unbeatable. Thanks Ernst and Linda. 5 stars.
Great service! Ample parking! Great staff! The best food I’d say! Haven’t been to a hotel that does such good Pakistani food. The food was so flavoursome and the buffet was arranged beautifully! Only let down for the night was air-conditioning. It was constantly getting too hot. Which is a big deal on weddings that already are stressful. The staff though were understanding and were doing their best...
Fabulous location in every way. If you're traveling by train you step into the Central Station complex and then it's just a matter of getting on to an escalator and you're at the hotel. If you're using your car, you drive to the main entrance where a valet takes over and parks your car for you. If you want to explore the Brisbane city, it's literally at your feet. And as the city itself is designed...
The hotel location isn’t too bad being right above central station with internal access ways. The lobby was spacious and inviting and the reception staff were attentive and friendly. The floors rooms and hallways were very outdated with musty odours masked by cleaning sprays. If you have sensitivities you may find the smells and poor ventilation a problem. great location, close to everything and within walking distance. Love having a kitchen. Bathroom was generous. Parking was close unless the shopping centre next door is closed.
The apartment was a little dated, but it was clean and fully functional. It has a full kitchen and laundry and was reasonably stocked with dishes, cutlery and cookware. The manager and front desk staff were all very helpful. The building Is right in the CBD, so you can walk to all the shops and restaurants. There is a botanic garden a couple of blocks away which is great for a stroll or a run.
Friendly, helpful staff. Rooms always clean and fresh.
Great appt, have stayed in about 5 apartments around the cbd since Jan, this is once of the nicest for my budget. Big space, nicely furnished (was like staying at my mums... ahem, posh, but slightly dated furnishings, but that added to the charm) enjoyed my stay, will be booking again.
My mother stayed here the weekend I got married in the botanical gardens. The rooms were excellent with a great size and plenty of bathrooms. Not a big balcony but plenty of windows and a near full service kitchen. Central location directly above the mall and clean and pleasant. Not noisy at all and surprisingly private. Definitely recommend.

My husband and I were a bit concerned to stay here due to some of the recent reviews we looked at, but to be honest the room we had were nice and clean, the aircon didn't work as well as it should of but it was fine for the two nights we stayed. The staff were friendly and would stay again.
I’ll start with a positive. They let us check in early. Then the problems started. They charged us the night before but only informed us when we got there. Was meant to be pay on arrival at property. Room was dirty. Plant pots were broken, making it look tacky. One of our key fobs wouldn’t work so a friend was stuck outside. Staff to busy on phones and just saying what we wanted to hear. I’ll finish...
Friendly staff, incredible views, perfect climate and super comfortable beds. Place felt a little like its in a state of decline with little things gone unfixed for a long time, but not important things, nothing that will ruin your holiday and thats really reflected in the price anyway so i rate the experience highly because it provided a experience of prestige whilst being reasonably priced. Happy...
The building is quite nice. The location is great with the south bank walking and pool area just a short walk away as well as the bridge over to the north side. There was a lot of construction during our stay but we got upgraded to a two bedroom for the same price of a one bedroom since we had a baby. The apartment was clean and well stocked. I would definitely stay here again.
Clean, comfortable, spacious, well situated. Downsize was no view except onto a blank white wall from bedrooms and living areas. Great for short stays.

Fabulous place to stay in the centre of Brisbane. I have very bad knees, the room we were originally assigned had 4 stairs. No good for me and my knees so we asked for another room and the staff graciously changed rooms for us. Cafe mondial is out of the front of the cafe and we had breakfast there. Great experience.
Fantastic classic beauty in the heart of Brisbane. The rooms are beautiful, huge, marble bench tops, antique furniture, ceiling roses, big bathrooms, baths, the works. Reception is in the same style. Staff friendly and parking cheap. Literally 100 metres from the Queen St Mall.
Location location location!!! This is the perfect hotel and I have no idea why you'd stay anywhere else when visiting the Brisbane CBD. Wonderful hotel. Stayed here for only one night. But it was great. The bed is comfortable, room was tidy and cleaned. Style-wise is a bit dated side but maintained well. The best is the view, in our room can see the story bridge which is amazing!! Definitely recommend or at least give it a try!
Great location and good view if you get river view. Also the river walk is super close and has great view of the story bridge and skyline. Check in was little messy. We had stayed here previously and was looking forward to returning. At check-in, the staff were welcoming and friendly, not so much at check out, we weren't even asked if we had enjoyed our stay. A potentially good hotel but not for me. The bed is way too soft l, and road noise is high from the nearby Story Bridge main road, especially in peak hours. The food is awesome, $19 Steak never disappoints. I really feel for the staff that are there as they appear to be run off there feet, you can wait ages to put on a keno or order food, sometimes there is no one at the bar at all. You can walk in serve your self and walk out again . If you need staff pay for me to do the course 's and I will be happy to help these poor girls out.
Good weekly rates, friendly staff, close to everything you need. Plenty of parking. Pub has great meals at good prices. Cleaner was great, made sure we had everything we needed. Great customer service.

I noted her high level of professionalism and ability to put me at ease. I was able to drop my bag and head back to the centre of town for meetings...
Excellent hotel stay. Clean rooms, friendly staff, great amenities, and convenient location. Although the gym and spa were undergoing renovations, the staff kindly provided a complimentary access card to Anytime Fitness. It would be greatly appreciated if they considered including bathrobes and slides to enhance the overall experience. Highly recommend.
Service was exceptional. They allowed me to use the stairs to access my room as I have severe claustrophobia. A staff member named Cooper walked me up and back down the stairs a few times and was incredibly polite and empathetic to my situation which makes me want to come back for my next trip. Rooms were lovely and clean, staff were all friendly and the beds were comfy! Definitely will return.

Beautiful location with comfortable rooms. The "kids stay for free" is super deceiving. They don't state that the kids actually have to sleep in the same bed as you. We stayed with our 11 year old daughter and when we checked in we were told there wasn't two beds.. and we had to pay an extra $60 for a fold out bed. Parking is limited and $50 for $24 hours. Common area is extremely outdated with walls...
Very happy with Stamford Plaza, pricing and location is great. Rooms big and beds comfortable. Onsite parking for first in first served basis. 49 a day which is acceptable. Highly recommend the hotel for all as it's in the quiet part of city. River views also are nice. Will be back definitely
The rooms here are older in style but is in excellent condition. This hotel is wonderful. Great service, great in-room dining, fast wi-fi, comfy bedding, great air-conditioning and overall its simply wonderful. I've had an excellent stay here. Tip - make sure you put towels on the floor in the bathroom to prevent slips after a bath or shower. I really don't know why other people that have reviewed...
My experience at this place was ok, although I don't think I would return giving the amount we spent for a rather simple dish with long wait times. I feel the atmosphere could do with a bit of a shake-up, and service could definitely be improved. We waited over 15 minutes for a simple beer and wine order. The restaurant has the potential to be great. Hopefully, things get sorted.
Lovely view of storeys bridge and river from our suite. Next door to Botanic gardens. Very comfortable. Great location. Easy walking distance for shopping, supermarkets, restaurants and tourist spots.
Good old fashioned five stars experience with just the right mix of current age funkiness.....but that's just my opinion...I'm 54. Discreet and excellent five star service. Great menu options with surprising value! Some big names could take a leaf here! Five star experience is not all about latest trendy decor and in your face service often falling short. Cudos to the staff! Brisbane is a beautiful...
