Hotel Villa Hügel in Trier

This is a quaint boutique hotel. The staff was generally pleasant and the hotel was clean. The rooms apparently are very different and you need to contact the hotel to be certain you get an appropriate room. We had a large comfortable room. I felt the room was reasonably priced considering a very good breakfast was included and we were able to get free parking. The number of free parking spots is limited, perhaps 8 to 10, so try to arrive early. Be aware that many rooms are not accessible by elevator, but the staff will help with your luggage.

We stayed one night after a long drive and looked forward to relaxing on our balcony. Unfortunately, someone on the adjacent balcony lit up either **** (I thought) or a cigar (husband thought), which drove us inside. Despite privacy walls between balconies, the smoke travelled easily to our area. It was irritating to the nose, and we didn’t want our clothes all smelled up, so we had to go inside. We found a similar situation with the lovely outdoor bar area, and smoke from folks out there wafted into the dining room where we were enjoying an excellent dinner. For a hotel that promotes its spa and wellness area, we were surprised they allowed smoking anywhere outdoors. They have an enclosed area at the lobby level that they could designate as their smoking zone and where smokers wouldn’t bother other guests. The room and food were the expected quality, but the smoking was a major turnoff.

This was a real gem of a hotel. The Staff was great, the restaurant was good and the rooms were very nice. Overall, a restful and relaxing experience.

Great little hotel in a beautiful city. Rooms were immaculately clean and very comfortable, with every amenity. The staff were kind and eager to help. The food in the restaurant was delicious. The little pool/roof terrace is a delight. A superb place to stay when visiting the marvellous Trier!

Excellent attention to detail. Villa hotel focused around the wellness spa and a first class restaurant. An oasis of quiet and a cocooned experience. The restaurant has perfect cuisine and service. The menu is well thought out with themes running through the courses. Staff are exceptionally friendly and make the experience very special. The spa area is spacious with a spectacular warm infinity pool overlooking the city. A perfect choice for a weekends decompression.

What a fabulous surprise. I chose this hotel based on the reviews. When i found it was a little outside the old town centre and a bit of a walk into town, I was a bit disappointed/sceptical, but that went away the minute we checked in and walked into our room. The views from our room were lovely. The room was large, with separate seating area. The bed, while firm, was very comfortable and the water pressure in the bathrooms - OH the water pressure! It was the best! Wow. The hotel spa area was so lovely. We took advantage of it every single day, included in our room rate. Breakfast was also included, which was beyond expectations and so many options including made to order meals. There are a couple of nice places to eat dinner within a short walk, and the hotel also has a lovely restaurant. I am not sure we’ll ever venture back to Trier, but I’d honestly consider going back just to stay in Hotel Villa Huegel again. Sensational.

Stayed one night in this beautiful, clean, great hotel. Very warm welcoming, showed us to the room which was very nice, clean and comfortable bed. We have used the spa, and the sky top swimming pool. Amazing experience overlooking the city. Dinner was excellent. Good size portions, very tasty and great service. Breakfast was amazing variety of things to choose from . All in all, amazing place . Will warmly recommend and be happy to come again.

Great staff. Lovely location. Fantastic restaurant and great breakfast. Very clean rooms and comfortable rooms. This was our second stay and just as enjoyable as the first.

● So many things I loved about this hotel. The front facing staff spoke excellent English. The receptionist walked us to the room since the layout of the hotel is a little confusing. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a king sized bed, a desk, love seat, coffee table, chair with foot rest, TV/cabinet. The best part was the room included a balcony with a table and two chairs and a gorgeous view of Trier and a wonderful tree that created a bit more privacy. The room also included a coffee maker, mini bar, and 4 handcrafted chocolates upon arrival. The bathroom was two parts–the toilet separate from the sinks and showers. In the main bathroom was a large bathtub with herbed bath salt, double sinks, and light-up make up mirror. ● The hotel amenities included pools and sauna and the hotel provided bathrobes, slippers, and extra towels for the use of these amenities. The outdoor forever pool was heated. There were maybe 15 lounge chairs but none were available any of the times we tried to visit the pool so we never stayed there which was a real pity since it had a wonderful view of Trier. Aside from the loungers or in the pool, there was no other space to be at that pool. So instead we enjoyed the heated indoor pool which was a very beautiful setting and no one was using it. At the indoor pool were showers, cubbies, a lounging alcove, and relaxing room. The sauna area was textile free. There is an area to change and shower there along with a relaxing room. There were several sauna rooms including 48 and 90 degree C and a wet sauna at 56C. The grounds of the hotel were gorgeous and well maintained. In front is a glass enclosed gazebo for gathering and beside that is a koi fish pond. At the lowest end of the property is a sunbathing area with grass and gardens and lounge chairs. ● The restaurant and bar were excellent. The bar included a terrace perfect for watching the sunset, lots of comfortable chair and couches. The restaurant included several indoor areas and a terrace. The dinner food was exceptional and the staff very helpful. The drinks were well made. I loved the breakfast buffet–there were even more options than you typically see at a fully stocked European hotel buffet so in addition to the regular items of cereals, cheese and meats including fish, breads and pastries, there was also a Mediterranean section of olives, grape leaves and vegetables. There were many different types of jams, honey, and juices along with several varieties of yogurt, puddings, and mousse. ● The location was in a very nice part neighborhood and on the hill overlooking the city yet only less than a kilometer away from the old city center. Since the hotel is on a hill, it is uphill coming back when you are tired–yet the walking path to and from the old city to the hotel is paved, easy to follow, and has slow steps that are not steep. Best mattress I’ve ever laid on. What’s the brand? Also superb staff, relaxing spa facilities and a nice breakfast. Too bad about the wasps but it’s August what can you do. Word of advice: do look up the parking before going to the hotel, there’s a neighboring hotel nearby which apparently also serves as parking for the villa.
