Stayed May 9th - 11th.
The 12-bed dormitory is located next to the street and the street is quite loud at night time, so if you don't sleep easy, I don't suggest choosing that room to stay.
They provided free breakfast in the morning (I think between 7 - 9ish) which consisted of pancakes, eggs, toast, some other foods I can't remember and coffee, water, and orange juice.
There are several places...
I recently stayed at this hostel and had a great experience! The location is fantastic, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect for meeting other travelers.
While the hostel does need some investment in its structure, like fixing leaks, and improving cleanliness, it has great potential. The dorms are a bit humid, and the WiFi could be better...
Very cute and nice hostel! Staff are super friendly and from all over the world. You get to meet people from everywhere!
Rooms are clean and reasonable for the price point. Located right next to the action in zone colonial. Very happy with my stay! Will come back again next time.
WiFi is weak inside the room, which was fine for me but something to know. Best signal in the shared lobby. I had very...
If reviewing this place at the beginning of my trip to DR, I would fault it for lack of cleanness, broken lockers and perhaps some other petty deficiencies but having travelled around the island, I can say that this is the best (if not the only real) hostel in the country. Its common areas are incomparable and the host really understands traveller needs. Loved the tasty breakfast, reliable transport...
Island life hostel is at the end of Colonial zone and therefore perfectly located as you can walk safely through the city and reach everything in short time. It's close to china town for good food as well.
Chris the owner and the people working here r really friendly and helpful to find busses or whatever you need. Only downside of the hostel is, that it's actually quite run down or not that well maintained...
A must stay if you’re visiting Santa Domingo. Very friendly staff and great owner. “Danny” the Scottish guy will give free salsa lesson from morning until night.

Right in the heart of the action, showers aren't clean and likely clogged with sand. Though the people you meet that are staying here make it great. Staff speak purely Spanish and depending on Google translate won't be your saving grace
Clean. Prime location for the area. We felt safe. Surprisingly it wasnt loud in the rooms considering that the balcony was open n the parties were like right there. The place was 35 but I got it for 25 through hotels. I think I'd even pay 35 if I had to tbh.

Luz is amazing! You can find her on Airbnb you will not be disappointed. Just put Zona Colonial in the search. I stay with her every time I'm in Dominican Republic been at her home about 8 times, I lost track. Her price is affordable about $18 USD and includes a delicious Dominican breakfast.
This family is amazing. She was so kind and so helpful. Loved the breakfast she made me and my boyfriend. We stayed here for NYE 2018 and we wouldn't have stayed anywhere else. Gracias senorita!!
This is a very nice, comfortable accommodation in a very good location for exploring the Colonial Zone on foot.
It is very reasonably priced and it is clean and well maintained.

Really cosy place with nice stuff, but they dint speak English :( Rooms are spacious and clean. Bathroom is also clean and water in shower is hot. Downstairs is restaurant with nice menu which is perfect for breakfast. Great localisation in zona colonial :)
It's a wonderful place to be at. It's safe, calm, the staff it's great, and all the staff, lead by Raul and Rosa, make you feel at home. The rooftop terrace is amazing.
Excellent hostel. Rooms are small, but cheap (as one might assume). Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. There is a rooftop bar. This hostel is in a PERFECT location, especially on Sunday nights, when there is dancing at the nearby monastery ruins until 10PM or so.
Great hostel with a very friendly staff! The balcony is a great spot to talk with other backpackers and to have a drink!
The location is good, only a short walk to the center. I can really recommend this hostel :)
I loved the place.. Is close to everything in a safe area of the city..... The people that work there. Manolo, Gaudí, Santa and Raul are amazing.. Always willing to help you or put a smile in your face.
Please also look at inexpensive guest houses and mini-hotels:

Ok...cleaning ladies are nasty..I have to show her how to clean my bathroom, they don't even lift toilet seats up and clean under luckily I told her to.do that it was yucky like kmt OTHER WISE ROOMS LOCATION. OK
Clean room with housekeeping often, quiet area with close access to a mini supermarket and a food and bakery diner.
Very nice Hotel. ...the staffs are wonderful always their to help whenever call upon. I love staying their..and I love Santo Domingo. .

Only stayed a few hours while waiting to check-in to Airbnb. It served it's purpose. I didn't explore all of the facilities but just based on the room alone, I probably wouldn't stay long term. You get what you pay for.
Very nice 👌, happy 🎶 🎵 🎼 and 😊 foods 😋 is great 👍 happy😀 faces serving 💖 so 😍
Great location and the woman who runs breakfast is the sweetest! Book online ahead of time since it is cheaper and we had some issues when we didn’t. Great for the budget and location, but service and communication were lacking.
This is one of the most pleasant places in Santo Domingo, located across the street from the presidential palace, zona 47 bar in gazcue, is one of the safest bars in Dominican Republic. It's pleasant ambience and food and drink specials makes you want to come back over and over.
Located close to Condi and town center. Rooms large but not the cleanest. Staff friendly but have your google translate handy. Breakfast the same every day Eggs!
You get what you pay for. Decent hotel and I really liked being close to the palacio but I'm still upset about the photos of the hot tubs that no longer exist.

This is a nice hotel. The staff is very nice the breakfast is good. If you speak Spanish then you can communicate easily. Fyi no safe in the room.
This hotel is clean and has a friendly staff. Language is a barrier if you don’t know Spanish. Rooms are just that, smaller size with cramped bathroom space. Close to the Condi and different restaurants.
Clean and comfortable for the price. Free breakfast included: fresh juice, coffee, eggs with ham and toast. Nice pool area, accessible through the kitchen. Free wifi. Recently raised the rate to $1900 PD. Right on Avenida Bolivar near Parque Independecia/Telemicro. Can be quite noisy with barking dogs, street noise and construction but this is normal for this part of town. Off and on "hot" water....

It was an interesting experience because the rooms have windows that look into the hallway. They have curtains but people can still kind of see into your room. The beds are stiff and the pillows are flat (which I love but everyone in my family hated). The location was great though because it was right by the beach and the price was unbeatable, considering the fact there is really great AC and complimentary...

I am giving 4 stars to this location, because of good customer service.. Rooms clean, bathrooms clean. Nice balcony on the third floor to have a snack or a drink.
They should not offer rooms without windows though. Hotel with a room with no windows is a no-no. The owner was very accommodating and switched us from at room to another for the same price.
Loved my stay here! Extremely clean place, comfortable beds, lovely balcony area, wifi worked great and friendly staff. Perfect location to walk to all the sites in the region. Went as a solo female traveler and felt very safe.
Terrific hotel, super friendly and helpful owners, super reasonable pricing and a very comfy bed. Couldn't be happier with my stay!

This Hotel in the heart of Santa Domingo is absolutely beautiful. The room is clean and quite, the Manager & Staff are very polite and friendly. The Breakfast is delicious and more then enough 👍🏼 We came by Car and the Manager organized a secured parking lot for us. We would definitely come back for a stay in Santa Domingo 👌🏼
Beautiful decor, comfy rooms and 5+ star service. The breakfast beats the finest we have had anywhere in Europe. Highly recommend this place!
Highest standard hotel so far on my Dominicana trip. Stayed just one night though. Room clean and comfortable. Great breakfast. Walking distance to the main street and several historic places one must see. Easy recommendation for a 1-2 day stay on a sightseeing trip for someone looking for European level hotel.
Amazing charming little hotel, definitely worth more than 3 stars. The room was very comfortable and the location is great. I've had there the best omlette in my life :) And big thanks to the owner who is super friendly and helpful.
Excellent and welcoming service. The mattress and bed was excellent, especially the toilet was outstandingly clean. We lived before in this type of old colonial house reconstructed into a hotel, they cant redo their facilities as neat as villa colonial. The location was close to the main attractions , no noise at night(keep in mind its 2021, maybe because of covid?) And every part of this hotel is...

The size of the rooms is great, which makes the place comfortable. The owner is always there, willing to help and accomodate. It seems to be some historical site where Salomé Ureña lived, I know she was a popular Dominican writer.

It's a room with a big bed, a toilet, with a TV, air conditioner. They give you towel, paper, soap. Not really expensive. It has an Italian restaurant downstairs ice cream shop too. Not too far from malecon where you can walk by the beach. I was upstairs with this view. I LOVE IT
This is my second year coming here and my second time staying at this hotel. Easy access. Staff is great and bilingual. The room is amazing though basic. No amenities such as shampoo or conditioner but I bring my own anyway. Very clean both times I've been here. The manager said they are working on a restaurant which would be super convenient. I definitely recommend this place 10/10

The people are very nice, the maids, the owner and the manager. Had great talks with them. Everything gets cleaned a lot. Only inconvenient thing is that you need to bother them every time you need to enter or exit the place. A great place to enjoy the city from.
the place is lovely, and the host and his son are very welcome. really enjoyed our conversations about the DR. breakfast served when you're ready in an nice, clean, white cloth table. would have spent the whole time there enjoying the house. Loved this place. A beautiful refurbished aristocratic colonial house, a cool (air conditioned and ceiling fan) respite from cheaper hostels, with great value (40 dollars/night including breakfast, much cheaper than anywhere else I saw in Santo Domingo) plus the people running it at extremely nice, helpful, and friendly.

I gotba cheap hotel room near the beachfront. it was a nice huge hotel room and the area had stores and restaurants all within walking distance. And the best thing about it is that their wasn't a lot of traffic in the area. I will be staying there again when I come back to the DR
