Hotel Silken Ciudad Gijon in Gijon

We spent two nights here. The minibar was not restocked. The dirty cups were not replaced. We had to ask reception for clean mugs for our tea on the second night. Hard to believe this is a four star hotel.

More a business hotel than a tourist hotel. Rooms and bathroom are good.
Staff not very friendly, not helped by a high screen and monitor at front desk. They did give us a map of city and list of restaurants.
Wi-Fi very poor.
Access to indoor pool was limited to 1 hour per day.

Great hotel. Only big issue was the AC is centrally controlled and doesn’t work. The staff can only turn it on. I know this as I stayed with my colleagues and we all experienced the same issue. I spoke to the staff and they claimed they got a repair man in to fix the issue. So i had no AC at night and was very hot. I didn’t sleep well during my stay at the hotel. This is my only complaint but the fact I couldn’t sleep is not good. I did request a fan, but was not provided with one. I feel if you are going to pay £100s a night for a hotel room, you should have working AC. Apart from that, service was good, rooms are nice and you can watch YouTube on the TVs. Bathroom was clean. The breakfast was very delicious and varied. The staff were kind to us during our stay and packed us breakfast when we had to leave early in the mornings. The bar and restaurant were also very nice. Pools were enjoyable too.

Checked us into a joint room that stunk of smoke, fresh smoke.
Moved our rooms for us to two nicer rooms though, which were average
