We spent around ten days at the Iberostar Waves Playa Gaviotas as a family with an eight-year-old child and overall had a really great time.
The absolute highlight is the location directly on a beautiful beach with stunning sea views – perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. The staff also deserves special mention: the animation team was fantastic, very dedicated, friendly, and great with both kids and adults. The service staff was consistently attentive, helpful, and kind.
The hotel offers good value for money for a four-star category – especially when considering the Spanish hotel standards. It’s not a luxury resort, but everything worked out well for us overall.
The rooms are generally fine – nothing luxurious, but clean and functional, and in line with what you’d expect for this hotel category in Spain. You won’t find high-end furnishings, but they serve their purpose and we felt comfortable.
The food and dining options were also good. While it’s not five-star gourmet cuisine, the quality and variety were solid, and we were always able to find something tasty for each of us – adults and child alike. All in all, the food definitely deserves a positive rating.
One point of criticism: parts of the hotel are showing their age. This is most noticeable in the fitness area, which is very basic and doesn’t meet modern expectations. In general, there is some visible need for renovation in various parts of the hotel.
That said, if you’re looking for a relaxing and family-friendly beach holiday, this hotel is a very good choice. We had a great stay and would definitely consider returning!

Wow! What more is there to say? From start to finish, our holiday was superb at this hotel.
The rooms, although a little dated, were clean and comfortable and had amazing views over the pool and down to the beach.
The staff! Truly wonderful. From the team on reception, to the chefs and waiters in the many dining locations, to the incredible animation team - every single one had a smile on their face and a wonderfully warm welcome. Our room was cleaned daily by Renata and we often had little gifts left for us.
The food was amazing - so much choice it was hard not to over-indulge. There is definitely something for everyone and often themed nights/dishes on offer.
The pool area was fantastic. Yes, sunbeds in the popular spots (next to the pools) were often reserved by 8AM, but we always managed to find sunbeds on the main terrace, except when it was closed on a very windy day. However, the staff were very quick to help us find space elsewhere and move sunbeds for us - spot on!
Would I recommend this hotel to others? Without a doubt? Would I return? Absolutely!

Shout out to the entertainment team : Nerea, Judith, Stano, Mattia and the others I unfortunately can't remember the name of, are just brilliant !!! Hope they can be rewarded somehow for their hard and passionate work, as they really deserve it. Always smiling, available and happy to do their job to the fullest!. Many of the waiting staff members did a fantastic job too, Especially the lady with blondish long hair with glasses, she was not the youngest but she was the one who worked and smiled the most, so big WELL DONE to her and to many others. The hotel was extremely very well looked after, extremely cleaned at all times. A suggestion I could add is just to be more careful on how knives are left in the Atlantico Restaurant , in the bread section as many children are around and never know what it can happen even with adults, perhaps cutting bread before hand might be better than leaving it there ( this is not a complaint or a downside , just a help looking into this little details for the future ). Hope to be able to come back next year.:). Ramona.

We went to another Iberostar in Crete 2 years ago, but we liked that one better.
There were less pools here, and if you didn't book star prestige, the only pool available is one with music and a lot of people, so not really a relaxing holiday (this'd be a family holiday). We booked star prestige, and therefore had an extra pool and an 16+ zone. This ensured that there was some quiet :)

The gym was nice, the basic necessities were there, and there was almost no one.
When you book a room next to the pool, do note that this means you don't have a lot of privacy, since you don't have a balcony, but a small area with some chairs and a large couch/pod for lying down, with as an extension the pool area. This does mean that people walk past your room the whole day.
The spa was some indoor pools (including a salt water one), two saunas and some special showers. There was quite some mold in the sauna and on the shower. With star prestige, you get a one time free 2 hour entry to this.
Apart from that, the food was good, the drinks were great, the view was amazing, and a lot of the staff was so so so sweet and accommodating.
I saw a lot of reviews saying the bathrooms were old and outdated, and while they weren't white and filled with green as you sometimes see in hotels, it was clean, and everything worked perfectly. So I'd say it's just the vibe, not the actual workings.

Fabulous food, rooms, pools, staff. We stayed Star Prestige. Everywhere was clean, pool towels available. Deposit for safe key which was returned. Slippers and dressing gown provided in our room. Beach was five minute walk away. Gym was good. Wide range of activities if required. I did Pilates, really good, staff great, made you feel welcome. Would definitely return. Loved it. Thank you.

Great hotel in a beach front location. Hotel clean and very well managed.. what makes this 5/5 is the team.. the people who strive to deliver the best possible customer experience. Nothing is too much trouble, everyone has a smile and is always looking for ways to help.

Fantastic customer service and food, located very close to the beach (unlike other local hotels). Originally booked direct with Iberostar at the adjacent 5* Palace but this is currently closed for refurbishment so was offered this as an alternative and overall very satisfied with the alternative. We upgraded to Star Prestige that gets a smaller adults only pool area with premium drinks and snacks at a self-service bar open until 6. The rooftop bar has fantastic views of the ocean. Food was to a very high standard (same for everyone staying) with an excellent choice and always local dishes with seafood available at both lunch and dinner, with a reserved area and better wine served at dinner as a Star Prestige guest. As others have mentioned the bedrooms are in need of a refresh however the maid looked after it very well and we didn't spend a lot of time there so didn't impact on the enjoyment - we had a sea facing room and it was great to leave the door open at night to hear the waves (note pick your room carefully as some are East facing so no sun in the afternoon / evening). Activities during the day were good and the evening entertainment was varied and enjoyable. Overall the experience was 5* because of the fantastic staff - they are extremely hard working and friendly - nothing is too much trouble and they made such a positive difference to our stay - thanking them all and well done to Iberostar - we have already booked another visit to one of their hotels next year

It's too early to give a proper review only arrived last night, but the staff friendly talkative and have a good sense of humour, I arrived with my mother we were put in a room with a double bed we went down to ask if we could have 2 beds and got our room changed within 15 mins the food is OK so far. The downside is it's a bit of a walk to morro jable. I thought it was closer and no tea or coffee facilities in the room, and tv won't accept my firestick before anyone starts it's for my mother, who's 81 so she can watch a bit of tv when she's tired and don't get me wrong she'll walk 5-6 mile everyday over here

Still dreaming of my stay at Iberostar Waves Playa Gaviotas—sun, sea, and seriously good vibes. Huge love to Danny & the animation team for bringing the energy every day, and the Star Prestige crew for making everything feel so special. Vegetarian-friendly, sparkling clean rooms (like, spotless), and walking distance to cute shops and local vendors. I picked up some one-of-a-kind art and handmade jewelry—such a special touch to the trip. Already planning my return!

A Beautiful Iberostar hotel overlooking a long Sandy beach.An Ideal winter or early spring chill out destination. We stayed here from 22 Feb until the 2 of March and had good weather. We stayed in a Star Prestige room in a priority location,which over looked the infinity pool and the fantastic beach beyond.The room was Large ,light and spacious.It has ample storage for cloths and a nice bathroom which had a shower above a bath. There was the usual mini bar fridge ,safe, large tv and a coffee pod machine. In the Star Prestige area which is adults only there is a small lounge with newspapers,coffee machines and a fridge with wine and water to help your self too. There is also seating and a large tv. Just outside the lounge there is a bar area to which you help yourself to a wide range of branded drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic,there are also fresh juices ,snacks and fruit etc. The man who attends to this area also comes around the sun beds with refreshing drinks etc. Breakfast,lunch and dinner are served in the main hotel’s buffet restaurant but star prestige has it own area with in the restaurant. The food is varied and of a good quality. The whole hotel is kept spotless with friendly hard working staff. There is a Tapas bar and the main buffet restaurant. Is also a bar on the 6th floor with amazing views of the pools and the beach,there is also a bowling bar and an entertainment area. Star Prestige rooms have a mini bar and a coffee pod machine but if you want a kettle you have to ask for one at reception and pay a €20 deposit and €10 deposit for the safe key which are both refundable. We could not fault a thing about this hotel and we stayed here 6 years ago in a normal room and also had a love holiday so it depends on what you want and if you think Star prestige is worth it, we enjoyed it and would probably stay here in star prestige again.
