Reviews
The whole experience was superb - the room was clean / air conditioned / decorated very well, the host (Valerie) was extremely attentive, including with our 4 year old … nothing, including finding a barber who spoke English, was too much for her!
In terms of location - it’s smack bang in the middle of Antibes, literally a few minutes walk from Plage de Ponteil … a beautifully sandy beach with superb amenities. Also in walking distance of old Antibes, with its numerous eating out options! Also, more broadly, as a base to explore Monaco. Cannes, Nice, Menton … or even Grimaldi / Sanremo … these are all drivable from here in a day.
The breakfast was superb value … fresh pastries / breads, a host of different cheeses / meats / honey / jams / eggs, fresh juices … as well as tea / coffee … for €15 per person per day.
The parking situation was also very easy to navigate … and only cost €10/night.
Overall - an amazing experience. We wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Le Ponteil to anyone who wants a traditionally chique French hotel with excellent amenities at a very reasonable price!
We will definitely be planning a return trip!
On the second day of our stay, the bathroom door broke. We reported this to the hotel owners right away, but nothing was done to fix it. The bathroom is right next to the bed, so this was especially inconvenient. The room was also very small, and the bed sheets felt unclean, even though they were technically washed. The overall hygiene of the hotel was unfortunately not satisfactory.
When we raised these issues with the owners at checkout, the lady owner asked my husband to go back upstairs with her to check the door. This was frustrating because we had already informed her about the issue the day before. My husband pointed out that she had already seen the door was broken and thought it was unnecessary to go back up to the room again.
From that point on, the lady owner became offensive. We politely asked if any compensation could be provided for the inconvenience, but she refused right away, repeating “no” without any willingness to communicate or apologize for the situation.
Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. The lack of basic maintenance, and response to our concerns made our stay uncomfortable and disappointing.
She said she didn’t know what mould was, so I googled a picture and showed her. Then she said she didn’t believe me, so I took her to the room and showed her. She said “oh that’s nothing, I’ll just wipe it.” I repeated that I am allergic, and she might as well have rolled her eyes at me.
She moved us to the only other room that was available at the hotel - which was even smaller than the last, with no bathroom. Not what we paid for. (Side note - none of the rooms here have a bar fridge, or tea & coffee facilities).
Anyway, since they did not have any other double rooms available, we decided to go and stay somewhere else.
It was exhausting and difficult communicating with the owner, but to her credit, she did process a full refund.
The whole experience from start to finish felt deceptive, in small ways and big ways, and I feel that the owner tried to gaslight me every time I spoke to her.
We are not rude people, and if she had been a little more understanding about the situation, the unpleasantness of it could have been completely avoided.
Rooms are charming and unique, with furnitures hand-picked to create a cosy atmosphere that is visible and consistent throughout the whole hotel.
Breakfast is served at 08:00 and can be enjoyed in the lovely garden with freshly baked bread from a local bakery along with a nice buffet of high quality and well-considered content.
The owners are a lovely Swedish couple that are kind, helpful and generous - and helps you with anything you need - and are happy to give suggestions of local things to do - or where to eat.
Highly recommend Le Ponteil if you're going to the riviera.
Location is a bit tricky and definitely not a place for young people to stay (they lock the gate at 11 and have a motion sensor light that announces your arrival!)
Unfortunately our room had a lot of bugs in it. It’s quite a “rustic” experience. All of the small black dots in pics are ants and there were 3 massive cockroaches in the bedroom. We had no food in the room so the bugs were not from anything we did.
We discovered that someone had come into our room and folded the blanket - we had not given permission and we’re surprised.
The rooms are very old and not updated and there was really loud construction happening next to our bedroom starting at 9 am.
It’s a nice idea but the execution is not quite right. I’m sure the owners will respond here which is their right, but this was our experience.
