ibis Centre Gare Hotel in Bethune

The hotel was great in every way except the death trap windows. Being up to five or six floors up, with windows that fully open, a step making them knee height and no locking facility, pretty scary with young kids.
Thankfully they were able to relocate us to a low floor, hence still a good rating.

Ibis are rightly famous for small, modern, comfortable hotels in convenient locations and this is a perfect example. Right next to the train station, a simple five minute drive from the A26 motorway, it's also only a 15 minute walk to the town centre of Béthune for a wider selection of cafés, bars and restaurants. The rooms and communal areas are new and modern, it's quiet, the beds are comfortable and there is a small secure parking (€10 extra) at the back. Downsides? Well, it's not fancy, it has a limited restaurant and breakfast (adequate, though!), the rooms are small - you wouldn't want to be staying for long in the room, there's not a lot of space for suitcases. If a simple overnight stay just south of Calais is what you're looking for, this is a reasonably priced option.

Friendly staff, clean communal areas and rooms. Easy and quick check in and out process. Great restaurants nearby and, train station. We stayed for a rugby tournament and the children were also made to feel very welcome.

This is the third time we have stayed for one night on our way to the ferry at Calais. The rooms are modern, minimal and comfortable for a short stay. The staff are friendly and welcoming, happy to speak in French or English. The self service breakfast is pleasantly varied, including excellent scrambled egg.
We decided to have our evening meal at the hotel too, but were disappointed by the number of unavailable dishes on the menu that day. By memory, 2 starters, both burgers, and about 3 pizzas were unavailable.
