Reviews
Mama Shelter Lille is a vibrant and lively hotel that really captures the fun, playful spirit the brand is known for. The XXL room we stayed in was impressively spacious — stylishly designed with modern touches, cozy bedding, and plenty of room to relax. The location is another huge plus, perfectly situated near the train station and the city center, making it easy to explore Lille on foot. The breakfast was also a highlight — fresh, plentiful, and full of variety, from pastries and fruit to hot dishes and great coffee.
However, while the overall atmosphere was enjoyable, a few key issues made the stay less comfortable than it could have been. When the room experienced a blackout and power trip, the recovery process was disappointingly slow. It took quite some time before the issue was addressed, largely because there didn’t seem to be any technical staff on-site to handle it promptly. This was frustrating, especially given the level of service one would expect from a well-known hotel brand.
The air conditioning was another letdown. It barely seemed to work, leaving the room uncomfortably warm and stuffy, particularly during the night. Even with the windows open, there wasn’t enough ventilation to cool the space down properly, which made sleeping difficult.
Overall, Mama Shelter Lille has the potential to be an excellent stay — the design is modern and fun, the food is great, and the location couldn’t be better. But the lack of technical support and weak air conditioning really affected the comfort level. With a bit more attention to maintenance and faster problem-solving, it could easily go from good to great. As it stands, it’s a stylish and convenient hotel with charm — but one that still needs a bit more substance behind the style
The room is clean, The breakfast was disappointingly limited with withered fruit, broken coffee machine and staff providing delayed service.
Has great quality of breakfast and the restaurant is also super good!
the location is 5 minutes from the center!
Parking unfortunately is not free and an overnight stay costs 35 euros even for a resident... so keep that in mind
Here come the cons that I wished I didn’t experience.
1) the ac is HARDLY cold. Or even cool. Made sleeping really hard because it’s cooler outside than being in your own room. Changed room once and experienced the same issue
2) lots of mosquitoes 🥲 I was bitten senseless both nights I was there. Sleeping was badly interrupted. Also because my room was so warm, the mossies feasted on me like a buffet. I wished they provided products that help with mossies because why is this a customer’s problem? Mosquito repellent should be provided
3) shower is has weak pressure. If you’re fussy about this, you’re not going to enjoy your showers. Period.
This is a decent stay if you’re on a slight budget and is not fussed about the above mentioned.
Absolutely phenomenal experience. We went for an option with breakfast included, which was not only fairly priced, but the breakfast was delicious and varied.
Staff were incredibly flexible, kind, and helpful. The lady on the phone allowed us to rebook our stay without extra charges due to an unexpected situation on our end. She didn't have to do this, but it was really appreciated and contributed to our stay. A truly stellar human being!
Rooms were clean and well equipped, with good TV entertainment options. Location was great with quick access to transport, the old town, and some nice food and drink options.
Bar was pretty good, with varied cocktail options. Made for a nice place to spend the evening.
If I had one criticism, it was that the beer selection at the bar was not very wide and too expensive for what was offered. Would have loved to have some local beer - which I was very happy to discover in the city itself.
Thanks to our experience, we will be booking with Mama Shelter again.
