We regularly stay in 5-star hotels, but this one barely deserves 4 stars. The entire hotel had a bad odor, which is not what you'd expect from a 5 start hotel that typically smells fresh and inviting. It looks dirty. The hotel need maintenance—it looks run down, and there was mold on the ceiling of the pool area. Our room had so many faults that we had to be moved to a different one. Housekeepers never greeted us in the corridors, which contributed to the lack of warmth and hospitality. The breakfast was also very poor, with limited and low-quality options. Sauna and jacuzzi you have to reserve in advance and it is in separate area from the pool. Good view and location but nothing else.
Overall, this stay was far below the standard of a 5-star experience.

We arrived at the worn-down entrance of Hotel du Roy Sowell and immediately thought, "Oh no!" Things only got worse from there. They tried to charge us again for our dog, even though we had already paid twenty euros extra when booking. We had to point it out on their own computer screen to prove it. The restrictions on our dog—only allowed in the room or outside the premises—were frustrating, and the unexpected extra fees piled up. The inflexible manager didn’t help. She wouldn’t give a refund or think of solutions for us to have the breakfast we paid for. While the room was nice and big, this is one of those hotels you wish you’d never booked. Far from five-star—more like a five-star scam.
