Lindos Royal Resort

I’m being very honest and fair with this review. Before we travelled to Lindos Royal, we read the reviews and were very nervous about it. We even looked into changing our booking to another hotel. We travelled with our two children, 8 and 5. We usually stay in very nice hotels and with this being a 5-star rated we thought it would live up to our expectations. How wrong were we?? We checked in around 1pm and had to wait some time for our room. We eventually got into the room around 3pm and it was the worst room I think I’ve ever seen. Very dark, no real natural light and very dated decor. Even the silicon in the bathroom was peeling off around the sink. We went to reception and asked for a room change. The staff weren’t very helpful, but we asked to speak to the manager. It took her half an hour to come to reception to help us, and she eventually agreed to move us. The second room wasn’t much better, but at least had a little natural light. Still very dated and the bathroom wasn’t good - black mould at the bottom of the shower screen. No kettle, no iron and no ironing board - isn’t that standard for a usual 5-star? During our 9 night stay, we were left with no towels 5 days and had to ring down to reception and request towels. Each time we had to ring down again after 20 minutes and ask for them to send the towels. The worst of this was when we went on a day trip and didn’t return until 9:30pm. We had no towels and again 40 minutes until towels were delivered to the room. This is not the service you should receive - especially with two young children. Around the resort there are lots of maintenance issues, too many to even mention to be honest. Very tired resort all round with things broken everywhere. Exposed wires all around the resort. It just isn’t anywhere near the five star resort we expected and the hotel owners should be very ashamed of the state of the hotel. They have spent money on the reception area and dining area but have completely ignored the rest of the resort. Some of the rooms we were told by other guests had been refurbished but we didn’t see any of them. The food was average in our opinion, breakfast was standard hotel breakfast. Lunch and dinner generally a mixed of things. We decided to eat out 7 of the 9 nights we were there due to the poor quality of the food. We visited Lindos and Pefkos and both were amazing places with plenty of choice. The pool areas were the only real positives about the hotel - even though there is a sewage smell around the Calypso bar pool. There were several pools each with ample beds and never an issue getting beds. The water slides were good, even though only 4 out of 7 were open. Another example of how the hotel is let down by maintenance issues not being resolved. The pool areas were very slippery and our son slipped and smashed his head on the floor. The hotel on arrival gave a good impression. The room we were given was ok, smaller than most we have stayed in for a family of 4 (2 adults, 16 yr old and 12 yrs). The air con however barely worked, just a low gentle stream of warm air. After little sleep for 2 nights we complained and they sent an engineer. No improvement so the reception sent another engineer and told my husband it’s broken so we asked to change rooms. We were moved and the con only marginally better. Another guest overheard us talking and said they are experiencing the same issue. The hotel itself was ok, probably was 5* some years ago but now dated the poolside slippy and foul drain smells in the main pool. On a positive the main restaurant food was good and access to the beech with loungers. Evening entertainment average. The hotel is not a 5*. They need to address the air con as we hardly slept - we won’t return.
