Arion Hotel

Very good, modern, clean and friendly hotel with good WIFI. Parking in front for free.

We spend a week at this hotel. The rooms are very clean , adequate and spacious.
The staff are all listening to the customer.
The only concern regarding this hotel is the restaurant !!!
In the morning the buffet is a continental buffet ( buffet is more than correct)
This hotel offers half-board. The dinner is in buffet form account as a unit per person of meat or fish ( and again ... ) We had to repeatedly ask for something else because what was proposed was dry, if not impossible, to eat !
The choice is limited and the food on offer does not reflect the gastronomy of the country and is absolutely not suitable for children.

However, the hotel is surrounded by very good restaurants that reflect the cuisine of the country.

The town of Xylokastro is a seaside resort and very lively but relatively quiet (it is paradoxical but true !). There are plenty of shops and you can walk until very late along the sea and stop for a snack or for a drink because there are bars and restaurants all the way down to the port (about 30 minutes leisurely walk).
The hotel is very well located at the water's edge (road very little bandwidth to go through) and quiet. Sun loungers and parasols are available to guests of the establishment. Consider a "beach shoes" because there is no sand and walk on the shingle is a little uncomfortable. It will not get you to have the quills of a sea urchin in the feet (if, like me, you haven't seen it yet^^), but it can limit the damage. The rooms are beautiful, very clean, air-conditioned, and this is the first time that I have been able to take showers without being obliged to hold the shower head because for once, the support was not broken !
Small detail which has its importance when one has long hair^^
The staff is friendly (special mention to George and Lena who were adorable) but doesn't speak a word of French, so if you don't speak Greek nor English, go your way...
The breakfast buffet is correct, even if there is still the same thing. And don't expect to have a fresh orange juice, except if you pull out your wallet. It is the crisis and the tourist is taken for a cow to milk...
However, the greeks do not need to know how to make the bread because I almost leave my teeth so much it was hard !
Another thing that is also important. Except if you do not want to do a small little walk to enjoy small dishes, not expensive (10 to 15€ approximately per person) in the restaurants of the surrounding area, and especially do not take half-board !
We heard that next year, there should be a chef in the kitchen, but for those of us who have taken 15 days holiday in this hotel, we bitterly regretted eating there every night...
We had the famous "Greek salad" in the entry for 15 days and then followed a choice of 2 dishes that were quite frankly not good (dry and tasteless) and the servers ask all the dishes (amuse bouche, starter and main course) on the table ! And the menu is the same each week.
On the first day, we have even been obliged to lay plates on the table next to otherwise we wouldn't have had a place to put everything, which has not bothered in the server that kept rid of it gaily her tray. We learned afterwards that it is the "custom" among the greeks who do not like to be disturbed when they are eating. Except that we, the French, we're talking about, but hey...
Make a plan before you go because you are going to eat rice and potatoes at every meal. It is to believe that they do not know the vegetables...
In short, the frozen would have been better, that is to say...
In restaurants, do not, like us on the first day, you don't have !!
Before you even take your order, the servers bring you a bottle of water and bread. The bread, even if you do not eat, you will be charged 1€ ! So, don't forget to say that you don't want before it is placed on the table !!
My verdict : 3 Stars because the restoration is absolutely not worthy of a 4 star hotel. For the rest, nothing to say.
