My wife and I have travelled quite a bit .
I base my expectations on what we pay
For what we paid I expected better
Location was great
It’s in need of a renovation
Cleanliness was quite good
Food at breakfast was acceptable
I had to upgrade to a room with a balcony
Our 1st room with no balcony was dark, not nice.
Overall an ok experience but I would stay elsewhere next time

Our recent stay at Grand Albergo in Sestri Levante was a mixed bag — undeniably charming in some areas but left us wondering if the premium price tag truly reflects the value. ⸻ ✅ The Positives 1. Prime Beachfront Location The absolute highlight of the hotel is its location. Step out , cross the quiet road and you’re on the beach. 2. Excellent Breakfast The breakfast buffet was generous and well-curated — fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, eggs, and Italian specialties. Something for everyone, even our picky 6-year-old. Coffee was ok seeing as it came from a machine. 3. Warm and Helpful Staff Staff were welcoming 4. Rooftop Pool Was a Hit With the kids. It’s not huge, but the panoramic views more than made up for that. The kids adored it, and it was a great spot to relax in the afternoons after beach time. ⚠️ The Negatives 1. Rooms Don’t Match the Price This was our biggest disappointment. While clean and functional, the room felt dated — tired furniture, small bathrooms, and limited amenities for a hotel in this price bracket. For the nightly rate, we expected more in terms of style, comfort, and modernity. 2. Unexpected Extras Add Up Some costs felt excessive: • Sun beds on the beach (right in front of the hotel) were €50 each. For a family of five, that’s €250/day • Pool towels came with a €5 rental charge per towel. This felt petty for a 4-star establishment. • Parking was €25/day, which, while not unheard of in this region, still felt steep given the overall costs. Final Thoughts Would we return? Probably not — at least not at the current pricing. The Grand Albergo has a lot going for it: beautiful location, friendly atmosphere, and great amenities for kids. But when the room doesn’t live up to the cost, and when every little extra starts to feel like a surcharge, you begin to wonder if your money could stretch further elsewhere. For families looking for a beachside stay with charm, it may still appeal — but value-seekers might find better options

Hotel has great bones but needs an update. Beds were very hard and the WiFi was terrible. Also the AC could not be lowered below 22 C. On the plus side the location is great, shower was good and so was the breakfast. The pool also looked cool although I didn't use it.
